A review on estimation and comparison of rainfall kinetic energy using disdrometer: a case study of Sangju (광학우적계를 활용한 강우 운동에너지 산정 및 비교에 관한 연구: 상주지역을 중심으로)

  • 국내에서 발생하는 토양침식(soil erosion)은 주로 강우에 의해 발생하며, 이로 인해 농경지 유실, 탁수 발생, 하천 통수능 저하 등 여러 수문학적·환경적 문제가 발생한다. 따라서 유역 내 토양침식 위험지역을 선별하고, 해당 지역의 토양유실 및 유사의 발생량을 산정하는 것은 토양보전 대책 수립 시에 중요한 지표로 활용된다. 침식-유사유출의 물리적 과정은 크게 '강우에 의한 토양 분리(detachment by raindrop)'와 '지표류에 의한 토양 분리(detachment by overlandflow)'로 나눌 수 있으며, 그중 강우에 의한 토양 분리는 수침식(water erosion)의 첫 번째 과정 중 하나로 강우 시 낙하하는 강우 입자들이 갖는 운동에너지가 지표면을 타격할 때 토양체로부터 토양입자가 분리되는 과정이다. 따라서 강우에 의한 토양분리량 산정을 위해서는 강우 운동에너지(rainfall kinetic energy, KE)의 정확한 계산이 요구된다. 그러나 기후 및 지리적 특성 등 여러 조건에 따라 강우 운동에너지는 지역마다 다르게 나타나며, 이로 인해 강우 운동에너지 추정이 매우 어려운 실정이다. 따라서 강우 운동에너지 추정은 주로 강우강도(rainfall intensity, I)와의 관계를 이용한 함수식을 활용한다. 본 연구에서는 대상 지역인 상주지역에 광학우적계(disdrometer)를 설치하여 2020년 6월부터 2021년 12월까지 관측된 37개의 강우 사상에 대하여 KE-I의 관계를 분석하고, 이를 통해 강우 운동에너지식을 도출하였다. 또한, 기존에 국외 및 국내에서 제시된 선형(linear), 멱함수(power-law function), 지수함수(exponential function) 형태의 강우 운동에너지 공식과 본 연구에서 산정된 KE를 비교하였다. 그 결과 비체적 강우 운동에너지에서 Sanchez-Moreno et al. (2012)가 제안한 멱함수 형태의 공식이, 비시간 강우 운동에너지에서 Kinnel (1981)이 제안한 지수함수 형태의 공식이 각각 강우 운동에너지 추정에 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다.

Explicit Design of Commercial Pipe on a Slope with Pumping Power (동력경사 상용관의 양해법 설계)

  • Pumping power being given, traditional method requires an iteration process for the solution of discharge and pipe diameter. Yoo and Kang (1996) have developed explicit equations for the estimation of discharge and pipe diameter for the cases of uniformly rough pipe on a sloping bed with a pumping power. The use of poser law for the estimation of friction factor enabled to develop the explicit form of equations. Yoo (1995a) has suggested the mean friction factor method for the estimation of friction factor of commercial pipe or composite surface pipe. With the same approach, the present work has developed the explicit equations of discharge or pipe diameter for the general case of commercial pipe on a sloping bed with a pumping power by adopting the mean friction factor method.

On the System Modeling and Capacity Scaling Law in Underwater Ad Hoc Networks (수중 애드 혹 네트워크에서의 시스템 모델링 및 용량 스케일링 법칙에 대하여)

  • In this paper, we introduce system and channel modeling for an underwater ad hoc acoustic network with n regularly located nodes, and then analyze capacity scaling laws based on the model. A narrow-band model is assumed where the carrier frequency is allowed to scale as a function of n. In the network, we characterize in attenuation parameter that depends on the frequency scaling as well as the transmission distance. A cut-set upper bound on the throughput scaling is then derived in extended networks having unit node density. Our result indicates that the upper bound is inversely proportional to the attenuation parameter, thus resulting in a power-limited network. Furthermore, we describe an achievable scheme based on the simple nearest-neighbor multi-hop (MH) transmission. It is shown under extended networks that the MH scheme is order-optimal for all the operating regimes expressed as functions of the attenuation parameter.

  • Analysis on optimality of the proportional navigation guidance(PNG) law is presented in this paper. While most of previous studies on optimality of PNG were relied on the linear formulation, this paper is based on the nonlinear formulation. The analysis shows that PNG is an optimal solution minimizing a range-weighted control energy, where the weighting function is an inverse of $\alpha$ power of the distance-to-target. We show that the navigation constant N is related to $\alpha$ directly. And also the conditions required to ensure the analysis result are investigated.

Creep Characteristics of Unconsolidated Shale (미고결 셰일의 크립 특성)

  • Laboratory creep experiments show that compaction of unconsolidated shale is an irrecoverable process caused by viscous time-dependent deformation. Using Perzyna's viscoplasticity framework combined with the modified Cam-clay theory, we found the constitutive equation expressed in the form of strain rate as a power law function of the ratio between the sizes of dynamic and static yield surfaces. We derived the volumetric creep strain at a constant hydrostatic pressure level as a logarithmic function of time, which is in good agreement with experimental results. The determined material constants indicate that the yield stress of the shale increases by 6% as strain rate rises by an order of magnitude. This demonstrates that the laboratory-based prediction of yield stress (and porosity) may result in a significant error in estimating the properties in situ.

  • Among various mass transfer models to express adsorption rates for any adsorption processes, the linear driving force (LDF) model is used most. The present investigation aims at finding whether this model may be applied to real adsorption process for separation and removal of benzene. Comparison of numerical simulation results calculated by the LDF model with experimental data allowed us to find the mass transfer coefficients that are most appropriate for a specific adsorption process. Various breakthrough curves were obtained from experiments performed at many different temperatures and pressures, which in turn produced suitable mass transfer coefficients. These dependencies of mass transfer coefficient on temperature and pressure were represented by an Arrhenius type- and a power law type empirical equation, respectively.

Identification of Compliance Function for Early-Age Concrete Based on Measured Strain & Thermal Stress Histories (변형률 및 열응력 이력 계측을 통한 초기재령 콘크리트의 컴플라이언스 함수 추정)

  • Recently, the serviceability and durability of concrete structures under thermal load have received great attention. The thermal stress and clacking behavior of concrete at early ages are one of the important factors that affect such serviceability and durability of concrete structures. Nevertheless, most studies on the behavior of early-age concrete have been confined to the temperature and strain development itself in the laboratory. The desirable efforts to explore the material properties of concrete at early-ages have not been made extensively so far. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to identify some important material properties that affect the stress behavior of concrete at early-ages. To this end, full-scale concrete base-restrained wall members have been fabricated, and many sensors including thermocouples, strain meters and stress meters were installed inside of the wall members. These sensors were to measure the development of temperatures, strains and stresses at several location in concrete walls during the hardening and curing phase of early-age concrete. By using these measured values of strain and stress, the compliance function at early-age was identified. The basic form of compliance function derived in this study follows the double-power law. However, the results of present study indicate that the values of existing compliance functions are much lower than actual values, especially at very early-ages. It can be seen that the prediction of stresses of early-age concrete based on the proposed compliance function agrees very well with test data. The present study allows more realistic evaluation of varying stresses in early-age concrete under thermal load.

  • In this study we derived steady-state relationships between surface saturation area and subsurface outflow, and between surface saturation area and soil moisture storage through numerical experiments with Richards equation on a hillslope. Numerical experiments analyzed the sensitivity of topographic and soil hydraulic properties on steady-state relationships between surface saturation area and subsurface outflow. And the power law for the extent of surface saturation area was determined as a function of subsurface outflow or soil moisture storage.

  • This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation on the long-term behavior of geosynthetic reinforced soil abutment. The investigation was carried out aiming at identifying the governing mechanisms of the long-term deformation of geosynthetic-reinforced soil abutment subjected to sustained loads during service life. A numerical modeling strategy was first established using the Singh-Mitchell creep model and the power law model, respectively, for the backfill and the geosyntehtic reinforcement. A parametric study on the creep properties of the backfill and the geosynthetic reinforcement was then conducted. The results indicated that a geosynthetic reinforced soil structure backfilled with marginal soil may exhibit substantial long-term deformation due to the creep effects caused by both the backfill soil and the geosynthetic reinforcement, the magnitude of which depends largely on the creep properties. This paper highlights the importance of considering the creep effect on load supporting geosynthetic reinforced soil structures when the long-term serviceability requirement is of prime importance.

Bandwidth-based Nonlinear Pricing on a Shared Link (공유 링크에서의 대역폭 기반 비선형 요금제)

  • Pricing a network service aims for congestion control of the network as well as economic efficiency. A monopolistic supplier providing users with a network service on a shared link needs a pricing schedule that maximizes revenue under the link's bandwidth constraint and guarantees the bandwidth purchased by the users. In that case, nonlinear pricing is an efficient scheme which meets both requirements. This study reviews how nonlinear pricing can be applied to the network service under the constraint and shows that the nonlinear pricing may result in a fixed unit price of bandwidth as linear pricing when demand characteristics of the users follow a power law. Also, the way how the provider with incomplete information on the demand distribution seeks for the optimal pricing from the degree of the network congestion is introduced and the relationship between the development direction of the Internet and internet pricing is considered based on the results of the study.
