  • The electrical and thermal conductivity of W-Cu composites were investigated as a function of the W-particle size and W-W contiguity. Powder mixtures were prepared by ball milling or mechanical alloying process, and then sintered at various temperatures. The electrical conductivity of sintered composite was increased with decreasing W grain size. Dependence of electrical conductivity on the W grain size was explained by the W-W contiguity concept. The thermal conductivity was increased with increasing the temperature up to $600^{\circ}C$ but decreased at the temperature above $600^{\circ}C$ Also, thermal conductivity value was influenced by the W particle size. Change of thermal conductivity in W-Cu composites was discussed based on the observed microstructural characteristics and theoretical considerations.

  • Effect of ultrasonic-wave irradiation on the Mn-Zn ferrite powder suspension prepared by solid-state reaction and alcoholic dehydration methods was investigated. Size distribution and morphology of the powders prepared at different temperature were examined as a function of irradiation time. It was observed that the powders were reduced in size by ultrasonic energy through distinct routes.

  • The effect of particle size distribution on green and sintered properties of Fe-Cr-Mo prealloy powder was investigated in this study. For the study, prealloyed Fe-Cr-Mo powders with different particle sizes were mixed as various ratios and cold compacted at various pressure and sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, $90%N_2+10%H_2$ atmosphere in the continuous sintering furnace. The results shows that the powders with large particle size distribution have high compressibility and low ejection force. However the green strength are much less than those with small particle size distribution. Tensile prperties of the sintered specimes with large particles size also have high strength and elongation.

  • [ $MgZn_{4.3}Y_{0.7}$ ] alloy powders were prepared using an industrial scale gas atomizer, followed by warm extrusion. The powders were almost spherical in shape. The microstructure of powders as atomized and bars as extruded was examined as a function of initial powder size distribution using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscope (EDS) and X-ray Diffractometer (XRD). The grain sizes were decreased with extruding as well as decreasing the initial powder sizes. Both the ultimate strength and elongation were enhanced as the initial powder sizes were decreased.

  • In this study, the effect of the size of B powder on the critical current density (Jc) of MgB2 prepared by an in situ reaction process was investigated. Various combinations of B powders were made using a micron B, ball-milled B and nano B powders. Micron B powder was reduced by ball milling and the milled B powder was mixed with the micron B or nano B powder. The mixing ratios of the milled B and micron or nano B were 100:0, 50:50 and 0:100. Non-milled micron B powder was also mixed with nano powder in the same ratios. Pellets of (2B+Mg) prepared with various B mixing ratios were heat-treated to form MgB2. Tc of MgB2 decreased slightly when the milled B was used, whereas the Jc of MgB2 increased with increasing amount of the milled B or the nano powder. The used of the milled B and nano B power promoted the formation MgB2 during heat treatment. In addition to the enhanced formation of MgB2, the use of the powders reduced the grain size of MgB2. The use of the milled and nano B powder increased the Jc of MgB2. The highest Jc was achieved when 100% nano B powder was used. The Jc enhancement is attributed to the high volume fraction of the superconducting phase (MgB2) and the large grain boundaries, which induces the flux pinning at the magnetic fields.

  • Graphite reinforced conductive polymer composites were fabricated by the compression molding technique. Graphite powder was mixed with an phenol resin to impart electrical property in composites. The ratio and particle size of graphite powder were varied to investigate electrical conductivity of cured composites. In this study, graphite reinforced conductive polymer composites with high filler loadings(>66wt.%) were manufactured to accomplish high electrical conductivity. With increasing the loading ratio of graphite powder, the electrical conductivity and flexural strength increased. However. above 80wt.% filler loadings, flexural strength decreased due to lack of resin. Regardless of graphite particle size, electrical conductivity wasn’t varied. On the other hand, with decreasing particle size, flexural strength increased due to high specific surface area.

  • Ag doped Hydroxyapatite powder in nano-scale was successfully synthesized either by co-precipitation or by ion exchange route. The fabricated powder was successfully dispersed through freeze drying due to the prevention of secondary particles. The antimicrobial effects of nano-HAp against E.coli was superior to micron ones not only in its strength but also in duration.

  • Geopolymer materials are attractive as inorganic binders due to their superior mechanical and eco-friendly properties. In the current study, geopolymer-based cement was prepared using aluminosilicate minerals from fly-ash with KOH as an alkaline-activator and $Na_2SiO_3$ as liquid glass. Then, calcium carbonate powder from a clam shell was mixed with the geopolymer and the mixture was coated on a concrete surface to provide points of attachment for environmental organisms to grow on the geopolymers. We investigated the effect of the shell powder grain size on the microstructure and bonding property of the geopolymers. A homogeneous geopolymer layer coated well on the concrete surface via aluminosilicate bonding, but the adhesiveness of the shell powder on the geopolymer cement was dependent on the grain size of the shell powder. Superior adhesive characteristics were shown in the shell powder of large grain size due to the deep penetration into the geopolymer by their large weight. This kind of coating can be applied to the adhesiveness of eco-materials on the surface of seaside or riverside blocks.
