To synthesize $Gd_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor, gadolinium-europium oxalate precursors were prepared from oxalic acid, NaOH or aqueous ammonia via coprecipitation method. The obtained precursors were heat-treated and then characterized by XRD, SEM and PL. The kinds and amounts of coprecipitant (NaOH or aqueous ammonia) were found to affect the powder morphology and properties of gadolinium-europium oxalate precursors. Two crystalline precursors and one amorphous precursor were synthesized. The nanometer-sized amorphous gadolinium-europium oxalate precursor was first prepared using the oxalate coprecipitation technique. The calcined powders obtained from the amorphous precursor were nearly spherical in shape, and a narrow size distribution was obtained. The NaOH coprecipitant was more effective in the preparation of nanometer-sized spherical powders. A thermal decomposition process was conducted for the three kinds of precursors. The photoluminescence property was also measured as a function of europium content, and concentration quenching occurred for samples with europium concentrations of over 10 mol%.
Crack free PbTiO3 ceramics were produced by sol-gel processing using alkoxide, which has not been reported to be successful. The PbTiO3 gels were prepared from Ti alkoxide and lead acetate without any dopants. They were calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ and miled to produce fine PbTiO3 powder. It was pressed into discs and they were sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$ for a few hours. The sintered ceramics were relativley hard and dense as having about 96% of theoretical density of PbTiO3. Fabrication of pure PbTiO3 ceramics by sol-gel processing is possibly due to their small grain size and uniform distribution of residual stress created during cubic-tetragonal transition over large number of small grains in fine grain PbTiO3 ceramics.
This paper report the result of the investigation on the properties of drying shrinkage for alkali-activated slag mortar in different relative humidity Commonly we know that drying shrinkage means lost more moisture but the mechanism of drying shrinkage of alkali activated slag mortar is not entirely due to the quantity of weight loss of water from mortar. pore size distribution and the calcium silicate hydrate gel characteristics have a critical influence on the magnitude of drying shringkage to alkali activated slag mortar. For this investigation, Ca(OH)2, Na2SiO4 were as alkali activator with 5 dosages(6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, 20%) and curing condition were three different relative humidity(35%, 65%, 95%) at $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$
A common YBCO powder has been made from a mixture of Y123 and Y211 that heated at different temperatures, respectively. The synthesis temperature of Y211 is lower than Y123. If Y211 has been heated as a synthesis temperature of Y123, a particle size of it may be very coarse. It exist as one of main defects for superconductor. But We simultaneously synthesize a YBCO(its composition is (Y123+0.4Y211)+$lwt%CeO_2$) using polymeric complex method. In the YBCO, the Y123 is synthesized lower temperature than other methodes, and its crystal structure is orthorombic. For measurement of these superconducting properties, we fabricated a YBCO single crystal. The manufactured YBCO single crystal is measured a magnetic distribution device using 0.5Tesla magnet and trapped magnet fields in it are 0.2Tesla.
Hydrotalcite, layered double hydroxides (LDH), with hexagonal morphology has been rapidly synthesized by microwave reaction within 1 hour by urea hydrolysis from homogeneous solution. Different synthesis parameters, Mg/Al molar ratio, microwave reaction temperature and microwave power were systematically investigated. Pure hydrotalcite phase was obtained for Mg/Al ratios of 2:1 and 3:1, and higher reaction temperature gave higher crystallinity. The hydrotalcite synthesized at 600W power shows the highest crystallinity and more homogeneous crystal size distribution. The hydrotalcite samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and Scanning electron micrograph (SEM).
Multi-step induction heating process was applied to the powder compact melting technique as a new heating process to achieve pinpoint accuracy, faster cycle time, repeatability, non-contact and energy-efficient heat in a minimal amount of time. The objective of this study is the establishment of the input data diagram of multi step induction heating process for automation of the fabrication process of 6061 Al foams with desired density. At first, proper induction coil was designed to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross sectional area of specimen. By using this coil, foaming experiments were performed to investigate the multi-step induction heating conditions such as capacity, temperature and time conditions of each heating and holding step. On the basis of the obtained multi-step induction heating conditions, relationship between final heating temperature and fraction of porosity was investigated.
The purpose of this work is to coat ZrO$_{2}$ - 8Y$_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramic on the Al cast alloy(AC-8A) by using the plasma spray method. Two types of coatings which were composed of two and three layer coating were examined. Each coating powder was analyzed for shape and size distribution and X-ray diffraction pattern. For the coated layers, microstructural analysis and performance estimation which was composed of static thermal test, thermal cyclic test and thermal shock test were conducted.
$LiMn_2O_4$ powders were prepared by burning and subsequent calcination of PEG-metal nitrate precursor. After the burning stage of the precursor, some minor phases such as $Mn_2O_3$ (or $Mn_3O_4$), MnO, and carbonate were formed and single phases of $LiMn_2O_4$ were obtained by further calcinations above 400 ℃. From thermal analysis of the precursor, a violent thermal decomposition, which was indicated by a drastic weight loss accompanied by a sharp and strong exothermic peak, was observed and probably caused by an oxidation-reduction reaction between oxidizer and fuel. The formation of the minor phases could be explained in terms of the burning behavior of the precursor by employing valence concepts of propellant chemistry. The calcined powders were composed of submicron-sized but highly agglomerated particles and showed very broad particle size distribution.
