  • This paper presents an electromagnetic analysis of a tubular linear machine with axially magnetized permanent magnets using improved analytical techniques. Based on the magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field and armature reaction field can be derived. Using these, equivalent circuit parameters, such as the electromotive force and inductance, can be obtained analytically. Finally, the generating characteristics are derived with the equivalent circuit method. In this study, the finite element method was employed to provide a comparative evaluation, and experiments were conducted to validate the results of the analytical analysis.

  • This paper deals with comparison of magnetic field distribution in LOA with slotless/slot stator. We derived magnetic field solutions in terms of vector potential and cylinderical coordinates. In particular this paper accounts for slotting effect due to stator slot opening by introducing a 2-D relative permeance function. The results of predictions from the analysis are compared with corresponding finite element analysis.

  • This paper presents at the characteristics of publications in the Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences from 1984 to 2018. Since its first publication, a total of 1,113 papers (~35 volumes) have been published up to December 2018. While the space astronomy field has made up a large portion of the total number of papers, the number of annually published papers in this field is decreasing. In contrast, the number of papers in the space environment field has been showing an increasing trend since 2013, accounting for more than 30% of the annual publications. The participation rate of foreign researchers has been maintained at greater than 20% since 2012. Despite the decrease in the number of paper per year, there are positive developments including sustained foreign researcher participation at greater than 20% and improvements in the impact factor. We believe that JASS has the potential to enter the distinguished level of international academic journals following a well-developed future road map.

  • We consider dynamical dark energy models based on a minimally coupled scalar field with three different potentials: the inverse power-law, SUGRA and double exponential potentials. For each model, we derived perturbation initial conditions in the early epoch and performed the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis to explore the parameter space that is favored by the current cosmological observations like Planck CMB anisotropy, type Ia supernovae, and baryon acoustic oscillation data. The analysis has been done by using the modified CAMB/COSMOMC code in which the dynamical evolution of the scalar field perturbations are fully considered. The MCMC constraints on the cosmological as well as potential parameters are derived. In the talk we will present a progress report.

  • Many debris landforms in the mountains of Korea have formed in the periglacial environment during the last glacial stage when the generation of sediments was active. Because these landforms are generally located on steep slopes and mostly covered by vegetation, however, it is difficult to observe and access them through field investigation. A scientific method is required to reduce the survey range before performing field investigation and to save time and cost. For this purpose, the use of remote sensing and GIS technologies is essential. This study has extracted the potential area of debris landform formation using a fuzzy set model as a mathematical data integration method. The first step was to obtain information about the location of debris landforms and their related factors. This information was verified through field observation and then used to build a database. In the second step, we conducted the fuzzy set modeling to generate a map, which classified the study area based on the possibility of debris formation. We then applied a cross-validation technique in order to evaluate the map. For a quantitative analysis, the calculated potential rate of debris formation was evaluated by plotting SRC(Success Rate Curve) and calculating AUC(Area Under the Curve). The prediction accuracy of the model was found to be 83.1%. We posit that the model is accurate and reliable enough to contribute to efficient field investigation and debris landform management.

  • This paper presents a systematic approach of measurement, modeling and analysis of grounding system impedance in the field of lightning protection system and intelligent power equipments. The measurement and analysis system of ground impedance is based on a computer aided technique. The magnitude and phase of ground impedance were determined by the novel measurement and analysis using the revised fall-of-potential method. The ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m long are considerably dependent on the frequency. The ground impedance is mainly resistive in the frequency range of 3-20 kHz. At higher frequencies, the reactive components of the ground impedances are no longer negligible and the inductance of the ground rod was found to be the core factor deciding the ground impedance. Although the steady-state ground resistance of the ground rod of 50 m was less than that of the ground rod of 10 m, the ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m over the frequency range of more than 60 kHz were much greater than those of the ground rod of 10 m. Furthermore, the equivalent circuit model based on the measured data was proposed. and the calculated results were in approximately agreement with the measured data.

  • Because of power consumption increase, global wanning, and limitation of installation, not only high reliability and interruption capability but also compact and light power apparatuses are needed. To improve the insulation performance, the high E field concentration phenomena was considered. Breakdown mechanism in vacuum is different from that in other insulation materials. therefore, It is necessary to understand the electric field distribution and insulation characteristics. This paper discusses the simulation and LI(light impulse) test of the shield of outside vacuum interrupter As a result, FEM simulation and LI test show that improve distribution of electrical field and equi-potential line. due to external shield. in this case, outside shield induced electric field of triple junction point.

  • Computational fluid dynamics analysis was carried out for thermo-chemical flow field in Arcjet thruster with mono-propellant Hydrazine ($N_2$H$_4$) as a working fluid. The theoretical formulation is based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows with thermal radiation. The electric potential field governed by Maxwell equation is loosely coupled with the fluid dynamics equations through the Ohm heating and Lorentz force. Chemical reactions were assumed being infinitely fast due to the high temperature field inside the arcjet thruster. An equilibrium chemistry module for nitrogen-hydrogen mixture and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. Thermo-physical process inside the arcjet thruster was understood from the flow field results and the performance prediction shows that the thrust force is increased by amount of 3 times with 0.6KW arc heating.

  • In this research, the energy stability level method is used for examining the stable state of Field Robot under effects of swing motion, at particular postures of manipulator, and terrain conditions. The energy stability level is calculated by using the dynamic models of Field Robot, subjected to the concept of equilibrium plane and support boundary. The results, simulated by using computing program for estimating the potential overturning of Field Robot, supply useful predictions of stability analysis for designers and operators.
