  • We present the method to infer Context-Free Grammars by applying genetic algorithm to the Binary Third-order Recurrent Neural Networks(BTRNN). BTRNN is a multiple-layered architecture of recurrent neural networks, each of which is corresponding to an input symbol, and is combined with external stack. All parameters of BTRNN are represented as binary numbers and each state transition is performed with any stack operation simultaneously. We apply Genetic Algorithm to BTRNN chromosomes and obtain the optimal BTRNN inferring context-free grammar of positive and negative input patterns. This proposed method infers BTRNN, which includes the number of its states equal to or less than those of existing methods of Discrete Recurrent Neural Networks, with less examples and less learning trials. Also BTRNN is superior to the recent method of chromosomes representing grammars at recognition time complexity because of performing deterministic state transitions and stack operations at parsing process. If the number of non-terminals is p, the number of terminals q, the length of an input string k, and the max number of BTRNN states m, the parallel processing time is O(k) and the sequential processing time is O(km).

  • The prevalence of major zoonotic diseases such as tuberculosis, brucellosis and the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Jeonbuk province was monitored from 2004 to 2008. For tuberculosis, a total of 306 heads from 92 farms were positive during the surveillance period, which 228 heads were from 78 dairy farms and 78 heads from 14 Hanwoo farms. Based on the number of recurrent tuberculosis in 92 positive farms, 28 farms or 43.8% of the positive farms had 1-4 additional outbreaks during the surveillance. Based on brucellosis surveillance of 5,252 dairy cattle and 2,600,829 Hanwoo conducted during the same time period, 4,818 heads from 1,203 farms were positive for brucellosis, which 445 heads were from 111 dairy farms and 4,373 heads from 1,092 Hanwoo farms. Among the 1,203 positive farms, 473 farms or 39.3% of the positive farms had experienced 1-4 recurrent brucellosis during the surveillance. According to nationwide surveillance of HPAI, a total of 45 cases had been reported between 2004 and 2008. Among those outbreaks, 20 cases were reported in Jeonbuk province and 3 cases in 2006 and 17 case in 2008. For the regional distribution of 20 cases in Jeonbuk, 4 cases (48,490 chickens), 4 cases (23,066 chickens 66(1) and ducks 23,000(3)), 11 cases (183,077 chickens 63,077 (10) and quails 120,000 (1)), and 1 case (9,000 ducks) were reported in Iksan, Jeongeup, Gimje and Sunchang, respectively.

  • Following radiation therapy for brain tumors, patients often have clinical deterioration due to either radiation necrosis or recurrent tumor progression in the treatment field. The distinction between these entities is important but difficult clinically or even with CT or MRI. T1-201 has been known to accumulate in various tumors and be useful to grade, predict prognosis or detect recurrence of glioma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of T1-201 SPECT in the differentiation of recurrent tumor from radiation necrosis. Of 67 patients who did T1-201 brain SPECT imaging with clinically suspected recurrent tumor or radiation necrosis, 20 patients underwent histopathological examination and constituted the study population. T1-201 uptake indices on T1-201 brain SPECT imaging rrere calculated and correlated with histopathological diagnosis. Of 20 patients, 15 were histopathologically confirmed as recurrent original tumor or malignant transformation of benign tumor and 5 were diagnosed as radiation necrosis. On T1-201 SPECT, 18 of 20 had T1-201 index above 2.5 which was regarded as positive indicator for the presence of tumor. Seventeen cases showed concordance, which consisted of 15 true positive and 2 true negative. Discordant 3 cases were all false positive. There was no case of false negative. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of T1-201 SPECT were 100%, 40%, 83% and 100%. In conclusion, T1-201 brain SPECT is a sensitive diagnostic test in the detection of recurrent tumor following radiation therapy and is useful in the differentiation of recurrent tumor from radiation necrosis. Relatively low specificity should be evaluated further in larger number of patients in consideration of sampling error and referral bias for pathologic examination.

  • Background : Syncope was defined as transient loss of consciousness and postural tone. The mechanisms of changes in cerebral hemodynamics during syncope have not been fully evaluated. Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography can continuously monitor the changes in cerebral hemodynamics during head-up tilt (HUT). TCD could reveal the different patterns of changes in cerebral hemodynamics during syncope. Syncope without hypotension or bradycardia could be detected by TCD. We investigated the changes in cerebral blood flow velocity during HUT using TCD in 33 patients with a history of recurrent syncope or presyncope of unknown origin. Methods & Results : The positive responses were defined as presyncope or syncope with hypotension, bradycardia, or both. During HUT without isoproterenol infusion, there were a $86{\pm}23%$ drop in DV and a $41{\pm}34%$ drop in SV in 5 patients with positive reponses, and mean changes in those were less than 10% in patients with negative reponses (p=.00, p=.00). During HUT with isoproterenol infusion, TCD showed a $80{\pm}18%$ drop in diastolic velocity in 14 patients with positive reponses, and a $47{\pm}10%$ drop in that in patients with negative reponses (p=.00), however the change in systolic velocity did not differ. TCD showed three patterns during positive responses; loss of all flow, loss of end diastolic flow, and a decrease in diastolic velocity. Loss of consciousness occurred in the patients with loss of all flow or end-diastolic flow during positive reponses. Conclusions : TCD shows different patterns of changes in cerebral hemodynamics during HUT. TCD can be used to investigate the pathophysiology of neurocardiogenic syncope.

  • The maintenance of a viable pregnancy has long been viewed as an immunological paradox. The deveolping embryo and trophoblast are immunologically foreign to the maternal immune system due to their maternally inherited genes products and tissue-specific differentiation antigens (Hill & Anderson, 1988). Therefore, speculation has arisen that spontaneous abortion may be caused by impaired maternal immune tolerance to the semiallogenic conceptus (Hill, 1990). Loss of recall antigen has been reported in immunosuppressed transplant recipients and is associated with graft survival (Muluk et al., 1991; Schulik et al., 1994). Progesterone $(10^{-5}M)$ has immunosuppressive capabilities (Szekeres-Bartho et al., 1985). Previous study showed that fertile women, but not women with unexplained recurrent abortion (URA), lose their immune response to recall antigens when pregnant (Bermas & Hill, 1997). Therefore, we hypothesized that immunosuppressive doses of progesterone may affect proliferative response of lymphocytes to trophoblast antigen and alloantigen. Proliferative responses using $^3H$-thymidine ($^3H$-TdR) incorporation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) to the irradiated allogeneic periperal blood mononuclear cells as alloantigen, trophoblast extract and Flu as recall antigen, and PHA as mitogen were serially checked in 9 women who had experienced unexplained recurrent miscarriage. Progesterone vaginal suppositories (100mg b.i.d; Utrogestan, Organon) beginning 3 days after ovulation were given to 9 women with unexplained RSA who had prior evidence of Th1 immunity to trophoblast. We checked proliferation responses to conception cycle before and after progesterone supplementation once a week through the first 7 weeks of pregnancy. All patients of alloantigen and PHA had a positive proliferation response that occmed in the baseline phase. But 4 out of 9 patients (44.4%) of trophoblast antigen and Flu antigen had a positive proliferative response. The suppression of proliferation response to each antigen were started after proliferative phase and during pregnancy cycles. Our data demonstrated that since in vivo progesterone treated PBMCs suppressed more T-lymphocyte activation and $^3H$-TdR incorporation compare to PBMCs, which are not influenced by progesterone. This data suggested that it might be influenced by immunosuppressive effect of progesterone. In conclusion, progesterone may play an important immunological role in regulating local immune response in the fetal-placental unit. Furthermore, in the 9 women given progesterone during a conception cycle, Only two (22%) repeat pregnancy losses occured in these 9 women despite loss of antigen responsiveness (one chemical pregnancy loss and one loss at 8 weeks of growth which was karyotyped as a Trisomy 4). These finding suggested that pregnancy loss due to fetal aneuploidy is not associated with immunological phenomena.

  • Staphylococcus aureus is now a major community-acquired pathogen worldwide, notably associated with skin and soft tissue infections. Staphylococci are present in the form of colonizers or environmental contaminants at home and increase the risk of recurrent infection. We are describing recurrent familial furunculosis caused by Panton-Valentine Leukocidin-positive methicillin susceptible S. aureus ST1 in Korea. An infant, his father and mother had furunculosis due to methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) infection with identical susceptibility patterns. ST1 accounted for all 3 isolates and they were confirmed of having agr group I. Both sec and seh were detected in all isolates using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, and all isolates contained Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) genes. Risk factors for the household spread of S. aureus include skin conditions and close physical contact among household members. The relationship between S. aureus colonization of household contacts and the occurrence of S. aureus infection should be studied into more detail.

  • A code reuse attack is an attack technique that can execute arbitrary code without injecting code directly into the stack by combining executable code fragments existing in program memory and executing them continuously. ROP(Return-Oriented Programming) attack is typical type of code reuse attack and serveral defense techniques have been proposed to deal with this. However, since existing methods use Rule-based method to detect attacks based on specific rules, there is a limitation that ROP attacks that do not correspond to previously defined rules can not be detected. In this paper, we introduce a method to detect ROP attack by learning command pattern used in ROP attack code using RNN(Recurrent Neural Network). We also show that the proposed method effectively detects ROP attacks by measuring False Positive Ratio, False Negative Ratio, and Accuracy for normal code and ROP attack code discrimination.

  • A five-month-old, male Domestic Korean shorthair was referred to our hospital with a history of lethargy, anorexia, and globoid cardiac silhouette on thoracic radiography. Physical examination showed dehydration and anemia was revealed on blood analysis. On thoracic radiography and echocardiography, the patient showed pericardial effusion and ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis was performed. A Rivalta test of the pericardial effusion showed a positive result. As the patient had recurrent pericardial effusion, pericardiectomy was performed. He was tentatively diagnosed with wet form feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) and treated with Polyprenyl immunostimulant (PI). Neurological signs were eventually seen and he was euthanized. Histopathologic changes with markedly expanded neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells, and macrophages with fibrous connective tissue and collagenous fibers were detected. Immunohistochemistry for FIP antigen was performed and results showed FIPV-positive multifocal aggregates of cells. Pericardial effusion is an atypical condition in cats with FIP, but can be presented. This case report describes FIP with pericardial effusion in a cat, in which definitive diagnosis of FIP was done using biopsy via pericardiectomy.

  • Pulmonary hemorrhage is a feature of several immune and idiopathic disorders. The specific etiology of this disease is determined by clinical, serological and renal pathology. Microscopic polyarteritis nodosa is a vasculitis of small vessels which is characterized by involvement of the lung, kidney and skin in young individuals. Its clinical manifestations differ from classical polyarteritis nodosa. It should be considered in differentiation of recurrent alveolar hemorrhage and hematuria. We reported a case of microscopic polyarteritis nodosa which was confirmed by renal biopsy and positive serum antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody, associated with recurrent alveolar hemorrhage and hematuria.

  • In this paper, we propose recurrent CNN(Convolutional Neural Networks) for detecting seizures among patients using EEG signals. In the proposed method, data were mapped by image to preserve the spectral characteristics of the EEG signal and the position of the electrode. After the spectral preprocessing, we input it into CNN and extracted the spatial and temporal features without wavelet transform. Results from the Children's Hospital of Boston Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CHB-MIT) dataset showed a sensitivity of 90% and a false positive rate (FPR) of 0.85 per hour.
