  • In this study, we propose a new input device using vision technology for positioning of multiple DOFs. The input device is composed of multiple Tags on a transparent table and a vision camera below the table. Vision camera detects LEDs at the bottom of each Tag to derive information of the ID, position and orientation. The information are used to determine position and orientation of remote target DOFs. Our developed approach is very reliable and effective, especially when the corresponding DOFs are from many independent individuals. We show an application example with a SCARA robot to prove the flexibility and extendability.

  • In the manufacturing industry, there has been a significant increase in the use of coordinate measuring machines(CMM). In this paper, the sources of CMM measurement performance are discussed. The effects of workpiece position, length and orientation are analyzed by using the design of experiments. Both a fractional factorial design and a factorial design are employed to conduct the experimental study. The analysis of variance is performed to determine the significance of factors in the experiment and regression analysis is applied to make the measurement approximate model. The results show that position along the Z axis, length and orientation affect the CMM measurement performance.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost robotic surgery system composed of a general purpose robotic arm, an interface for daVinci surgical robot tools and a modular haptic controller utilizing smart actuators. The 7 degree of freedom (DOF) haptic controller is suspended in the air using the gravity compensation, and the 3D position and orientation of the controller endpoint is calculated from the joint readings and the forward kinematics of the haptic controller. Then the joint angles for a general purpose robotic arm is calculated using the analytic inverse kinematics so that that the tooltip reaches the target position through a small incision. Finally, the surgical tool wrist joints angles are calculated to make the tooltip correctly face the desired orientation. The suggested system is implemented and validated using the physical UR5e robotic arm.

  • In this paper color coordinate system transformation based visual servo controller has been considered Mobile robot always has a position error and an orientation error resulted from wheel slipping etc.. Even more, the errors have accumulative properties. So feedback from environments is important. In this paper by using color model faster land mark extraction can be achieved. And the global position and the orientation of mobile robot can be known by only two land mark positions in image coordinate system. Finally, the adoption of visual information in path tracking problem makes visual servo control.

  • The aim of this study is to develop and evaluate an efficient camera calibration method for vision-based head tracking. Tracking head movements is important in the design of an eye-controlled human/computer interface. A vision-based head tracking system was proposed to allow the user's head movements in the design of the eye-controlled human/computer interface. We proposed an efficient camera calibration method to track the 3D position and orientation of the user's head accurately. We also evaluated the performance of the proposed method. The experimental error analysis results showed that the proposed method can provide more accurate and stable pose (i.e. position and orientation) of the camera than the conventional direct linear transformation method which has been used in camera calibration. The results of this study can be applied to the tracking head movements related to the eye-controlled human/computer interface and the virtual reality technology.

  • A new remote control algorithm for a mobile robot is proposed, where a remote controller consists of a camera and inertial sensors. Initially the relative position and orientation of a robot is estimated by capturing four circle landmarks on the plate of the robot. When the remote controller moves to point to the destination, the camera pointing trajectory is estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm. The destination is transmitted wirelessly to the robot and then the robot is controlled to move to the destination. A quick movement of the remote controller is possible since the destination is estimated using inertial sensors. Also unlike the vision only control, the robot can be out of camera's range of view.

  • In this paper, we studied the error compensation using an error budget method for repeatability improvement of the precision positioning system. The precision positioning system is developed for micro-pressing machine. We performed the force and displacement analysis about parts of the system. Proposed system determines the position and orientation of the materials manufactured by micro-pressing machine. It is consisted of x-y-z linear stages setting the position, and the gripper system setting the orientation. We executed kinematic and dynamic modeling of the whole precision positioning system. By generalizing the design variables, precision positioning system has the flexibility of material dimension. As we tried an error compensation using ...

  • Object recognition in the field of robotics generally has depended on a computer vision system. Recently, RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) has been suggested as technology that supports object recognition. This paper, introduces the advanced RFID-based recognition using a novel tag which is named a 3D tag. The 3D tag was designed to facilitate object recognition. The proposed RFID system not only detects the existence of an object, but also estimates the orientation and position of the object. These characteristics allow the robot to reduce considerably its dependence on other sensors for object recognition. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the 3D tag-based RFID system. In addition, the estimation methods of position and orientation using the system are discussed.

  • An error analysis is very important for a precision machine to estimate its performances. This study proposes a new parallel device. cubic parallel manipulator. There are so many error sources in this mechanism. Errors of the proposed cubic parallel vary with the stiffness of the manipulator. The stiffness of each leg depends on the direction of the actuation force and its direction. In this paper, the stiffness of the manipulator is calculated and the position errors and the orientation errors are predicted with the platform moving. The analysis shows that the method can be used in predicting the accuracy of other parallel devices and in designing a parallel manipulator.
