In aqueous slurry processing of silicon nitride, the interaction of dispersant and binder on the surface of particles was studied to identify the effect of these additives on ceramic powder processing. Polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were used as dispersant and binder, respectively. the adsorption isotherms of PMAA and PVA for the silicon nitride suspension were determined, while the adsorption of PMAA was differentiated in the mixed additive system by ultraviolet spectroscopy. These experiments were done in order to investigate the effect of these organic additives on the physicochemical properties of silicon nitride suspensions. The electrokinetic behavior of silicon nitride was subsequently measured by electrokinetic sonic amplitude (ESA). As PMAA adsorbed onto silicon nitride, the isoelectric point (pHicp) shifted from pH=6.7 to acidic pH, depending on the surface coverage of PMAA. However, adsorption of PVA did not change the pHicp of suspensions, but did decrease the surface potential of silicon nitride moderately. The rheological behavior of silicon nitride suspensions was measured to assess the stability of particles in aqueous media, and was correlated with the electrokinetic behavior and adsorption isotherm data for silicon nitride.
High performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCC) encompass a wide variety of cementitious composites whose behavior in tension is significantly more ductile than that of traditional fiber-reinforced concrete. Fibers in HPFRCC are increasingly being used for the reinforcement of cementitious matrix to enhance the toughness and energy absorption capacity and to reduce the cracking sensitivity of the matrix. In the past decade, HPFRCC have evolved with intensified research. HPFRCC for structural applications has been developed under the performance driven design approach. It is the aim of this study to obtain development of HPFRCC using polyvinyl-alcohol fiber(PVA). It was targeted a requirement of economic mixing and apply to structure member.
A novel electrospun nanofiber membrane was fabricated using combined poly (vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) intended for bone tissue engineering applications. PVPA is a proton-conducting polymer used as primer for bone implants and dental cements to prevent corrosion and brush abrasion. The phosphonate groups of PVPA have the ability to crosslink and attach itself to the hydroxyapatite surface facilitating faster integration of the biomaterial to the bone matrix. PVA was combined with PVPA to provide hydrophilicity, biocompatibility and improve its spinnability. To improve its mechanical strength, PVPA/PVA and neat PVA mixtures were combined to produce a multilayer scaffold. The physical and chemical properties of the of the fabricated matrix was investigated by SEM and TEM morphological analyses, tensile strength test, XRD, FT-IR spectra, swelling behavior and biodegradation rates, porosity and contact angle measurements. Biocompatibility was also examined in vitro by cytotoxicity and cell proliferation studies with MTT assay and cell adhesion behavior by SEM and confocal microscopy.
갇광성 관능기를 갖는 중합체, 이를테면 polyglyceryl phthalate(PG), bisphenol A-epichl-orohydrin 축중합체(BE) 및 polyvuinyl alcohol(PVA)의 naphthoquinone-1,2-diazide-5-sulfonyl esters(PGND, BEND 및 PVAND)를 합성하였다.
Fifteen concrete specimens were mixed and tested to explore the significance and limitation of appling the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and steel fiber with end hook to concrete. Main parameters investigated were volume fraction and length of the fibers. The measured mechanical properties of fiber reinforced concrete are analyzed according to the equivalent fiber amount index explaining the adding amount and length of fibers. Test results showed that compressive strength of fiber reinforced concrete was higher than that of concrete with no fiber by $10{\sim}20%$. The normalized splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of PVA fiber reinforced concrete were similar to those of concrete with no fiber, whereas those of steel fiber reinforced concrete increased with the increase of the equivalent fiber amount index. In particular, much higher ductile behavior was observed in steel fiber reinforced concrete than in PVA reinforced concrete, indicating that the slope of descending branch of load-displacement relationship of steel fiber reinforced concrete decreased with the increase of the volume fraction and length of the fiber.
In this study, the tensile properties of hybrid fiber reinforced cementitious composites under the high strain rate was evaluated. Experimental results, the HSF1.5PVA0.5 shown the highest tensile strength because the PVA fiber suppressed the micro cracks in the matrix around the hooked steel fiber and improved the pull-out resistance of hooked steel fiber. Thus, DIF of strain capacity and fracture toughness of HSF1.5PVA were greatly improved. Also, the fracture toughness was greatly improved because the tensile stress was slowly decreased after the peak stress by improvement of the pull-out resistance performance of hooked steel fiber at strain rate 101/s.
The carbon and nitrogen removal process using PVA-gel (Polyvinyl Alcohol) immobilized microorganisms was studied. The process has been operated under diverse process conditions for 12 months. The process consists of denitrification with internal recycle of 300%, nitrification, aerobic digestion reactors and settling tank. Nitrificatoin and nitrogen removal efficiency according to gel packing ratio and temperature were studied. Yield for Heterotrophs ($Y_H$), decay coefficient for Heterotrophs($b_H$) in aerobic digestion reactor were determined to seize sludge reduction mechanism and compared with typical data of activated sludge process. Then SRT in aerobic digestion reactor was determined on an experimental basis and sludge reduction efficiency was calculated. The process was implemented successfully with sludge reduction efficiency of 92.0~98.5% on a basis of biomass.
