Recently, the develpment of waterproof techniques has been required in morden building field. It is undoubt that one of the best materials for waterproof is polyurethane. Polyurethanes have advantages such as good adhesive ability, durability, weatherproof. However, they have disadvantages like high cost, delicate varnish layer, swelling problem. In this study, we found that the polyurethane with rubber particle of waste tire can solve those problems. We concluded that 10% of rubber particles containing polyurethane was recommened as the waterproof materials.

The purpose of this study is to investigate toughening of unsaturated polyester resin by addition of liquid rubber. In general, unsaturated polyester liquid has strong brittleness in spite of if high strength Therefore; it is difficult use polyurethane liquid rubber for the place where impact resistance is demanded. In this study, it was evaluated strength, impact resistance and fracture toughness by adding to polyurethane liquid rubber(0~25%). As a result, it was found that a tendency to be increase bearing impact and fracture toughness as polyurethane liquid rubber increased but strength was decreased.
The binary liquid type fire retardant paint of polyurethane (alkyd resin) lacquer is developed to cover the defect of one liquid type white paint of chlorinated rubber used generally but which has weak surface and poor adhesive strength to the wood as well as generating much black smoke when it is firing. The properties of the composition of binary liquid type of white paint of polyurethane lacquer developed in this study for using to wood has shown that the better suppressed smoke generation and enhanced the adhesive strength to the wood than that of fire retardant white paint used.
Rubber-modified polyurethane resin which was prepolymer type terminated with NCO, was synthesized by reacting isocyanate groups[NCO] and hydroxyl groups[OH]. Polybutadiene rubbers which had OH groups in the side of rubber chains, were charged at ratio $0%{\sim}40%$ of solid component in reactants. For products, physical properties were investigated experimentally. The results abtained in experiment were as follows. 1. Liquid resin and dried film was good solubility and clearity at less than 25%, 20% of rubber without being related to sort. 2. G-1000 showed better properties than R-45HT in solubility, dring time and adhesive strength. 3. Dring time and adhesive strength were considerably influenced by molecular weigh and structure of rubber. 4. In using 25% of mixed rubber(G-1000/R-45HT=50/50), It represented best properties in dring time(10 minute) and adhesive strength($23Kg/cm^2$).

The purpose of this study is to investigate the damping properties of polyurethane composites incorporating waste tire rubber powder and preplaced coarse aggregates. Four types of polyurethane-based composites were manufactured, and longitudinal impact tests were performed. And vibration signals in the time domain and frequency domain were measured and values of damping ratio for each specimen were calculated. Test results showed that the damping ratios of polyurethane composites, in which the amount of polyurethane was reduced by 10.6% and 21.2% through incorporation of rubber particles, were 8.4% and 4.6% lower than that of pure polyurethane. The damping ratio of the polyurethane composite produced in a similar manner to the prepact concrete production method was found to be 22% lower than that of pure polyurethane, however, the amount of polyurethane was reduced by 50% and the stiffness was 25.7 times higher than that of pure polyurethane.
An atmospheric plasma pre-treatment method was applied to polyurethane foam (density: 0.27) and rubber (butadiene rubber) to improve its contact angle and adhesion using atmospheric plate type reactor. In order to investigate the optimum reaction condition of plasma treatment, type of treatment gas (nitrogen, argon, oxygen, air), rate of gas flow ($30{\sim}100\;mL/min$), and treated time ($0{\sim}30\;s$) were examined in a plate plasma reactor. The result of the surface modification with respect to the treatment procedure was characterized by using SEM and ATR-FTIR. Due to a decrease of the contact angle of various materials, the greatest adhesion strength was achieved at optimum condition such as flow rate of 100 mL/min, reaction time of polyurethane foam 10 s and rubber 3 s for an atmosphere nitrogen gas. Consequently, the atmospheric plasma treatment reduced the wettability of the polyurethane foam and rubber also resulted in the improvement of the adhesion.
Driving tests using model plastic piles with different hammer cushion materials were performed in order to evaluate the efficiency of energy transfer ratio from the hammer, degree of vibration of the surrounding ground and noise due to impacting. A small pile driving analyzer (PDA) was composed using straingages and Hopkinson bar which is measuring force signal and pile-head velocity. The hammer cushion (cap block) materials used for the model driving tests were commercial Micarta, plywood, polyurethane, rubber (SBR) and silicone rubber. The highest energy transfer ratio was obtained from Micarta in the same soil and driving conditions. Micarta was followed by polyurethane, plywood, rubber and silicone in descending order. The more efficient energy transfdr ratio of the hammer cushion materials became, the bigger average noisy (sound) level was found. In addition, Micarta and polyurethane provided bigger bearing capacities than other materials compared in the same soil and driving conditions in which the static loading tests were performed at the end of driving.
This study analyzed the characteristics of four kinds of bridge rubber pads and suggested a method of determining the stiffness and the damping ratio of the pads. The stiffness of rubber pads can be estimated by a direct static test and a dynamic test indirectly. This study used both methods to determine the pad's stiffness. The damping ratio of pads can be obtained using the dynamic test and the damping ratio of polyurethane rubber pads was estimated to aproximate that of natural and chloroprene rubber pads. The polyurethane rubber pads are harder than natural and chloroprene rubber pads and thus carry larger load bearing capacity. In addition, they showed higher stiffness with the same shape factor than the others and thus are more available for bridge bearings.Although natural and chloroprene rubber pads are elongated to large deformation in the horizontal direction due to vertical loads, polyurethane rubber pads almost do not generate horizontal deformation due to vertical loads regardless of the thickness and hardness of the pads. Therefore, they do not need reinforced plate to restrict horizontal deformation.
Polyurethane resin was especially mixed with polybutadiene rubbers which had each other different molecular structures and functional groups. Liquid and cure properties were tested experimentally for mixtures. Viscosity of mixtures and drying time were influenced by solubility of thinner and reactivity of rubber. Adhesive strength represented maxium at rubber content $15{\times}22%$ (Wt. % ), and rapidly decreased over 25%. DBTDL(di-n-butyltindilaurate) showed the longest stroage stability.

Weatherstrip coatings of urethane and silicon type which are fit to EPDM and thermoplastic materials are used in sealing systems for automotive applications for noise reduction and high slip characteristics for external applications, respectively. Polyurethane binder was successfully synthesized from poly(butyladiphate)diol (PBAD), poly(tetramethylene)glycol (PTMG) and isocyanate as starting materials. Then, polyurethane coating agents were prepared by using various additives. To investigate effects of segment types on the abrasion resistance of polyurethane coating agents, thin films based on polyurethane coating materials were fabricated. With increasing the amount of hard segment in the coating agent, abrasion resistance, modulus and tensile strength of the coating films were improved, but the elongation of the coating films was decreased.
