  • Siloxylated polypropylene fibers composed of polypropylene (PP) and aluminosiloxane (AS) were prepared by melt blending followed by spinning. The effects of blend compositions on the thermal behaviors, surface and tensile properties of PP/AS blend fibers were investigated by DSC, WAXD, SEM, static honestometer, etc. The heat of fusion of PP/AS blends decreased with increasing AS contents. In addition, the peak intensity of PP/AS blends in X-ray diffraction patterns decreased with increasing AS contents. It was observed that the silicone molecules exist and well distribute on the surface of siloxylated polypropylene fibers. From the results of the half-life period measurements, the anti-static properties of PP fibers siloxylated with AS was found to be significantly modified.

  • A new series of anthraquinoid magenta dyes having alkylphenyl substituents was synthesized and applied toward pure polypropylene fibers. The affinity of the dyes toward polypropylene fibers was increased gradually with the increase of the length of alkyl substituents. The optimum length of alkyl group was determined as heptyl substituents from the practical point of view. The color values of the dyes on polypropylene fabrics displayed slight bluish red, namely magenta which is more practical than primary red in color matching. The good fastness ratings to washing, rubbing and light were obtained for the dyes having longer alkyl groups than hexyl substituents. Expecially they exhibited ratings 4 of light fastness, which is higher than primary red dyes previously reported.

  • The purpose of this paper is the evaluation of a permeability and blood compatibility for silicone/polypropylene combined membrane. Despite the overall good performances of polypropylene membrane, its long-lasting usage for artificial lung has been limited by serum leakage. In order to overcome this problem, we have newly fabricated polydimethylsiloxane(silicone)/polypropylene combined membrane(SPCM). SPCM has been proved to be serum leakage free in hours experimental. It has shown good long-lasting gas transfer and durability features.

  • Dyeing properties of hydrophobic polypropylene fibers using cationic dyes were investigated to improve dyeability by electron beam irradiation and sulfonic acid incorporation. The color strength of irradiated polypropylene fibers was examined according to the dyeing conditions including pH of dyebath, absorbed doses, and introduction of functional group to fiber substrate. The best dyeing result was obtained when sulfonic acid group incorporated polypropylene fibers after electron beam irradiation were dyed with cationic dyes at alkaline conditions and 30$\sim$75kGy irradiation ranges.

  • As a subsequent research of the previously reported$^{9)}$, a series of diaminoanthraquinoid blue dyes having hexyl, heptyl and octyl substituents were newly synthesized in order to investigate dyeability toward polypropylene fibers. As the length of alkyl groups introduced to the chromophore increased, the dyeability of the dyes toward polypropylene fibers also increased and then gradually decreased. From the result of dyeing, the hexyl-substituted dye showed the highest color strength and deep shade on pure polypropylene fibers. The good fastness rates to wash, rubbing and light were also obtained for all of the synthesized dyes.

  • Pyrolysis fo polyethylene and polypropylene has been studied in order to clarify the mechanism of chain scission and effect of oxygen on degradation. Rate of weight decrease was measured under nitrogen and air atmosphere at constant temperature for the samples of high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene and isotactic polypropylene, and then gaseous hydrocarbons produced from pyrolysis were analysed by gas chromatography. Although there is little substantial difference between composition of hydrocarbon gases from pyrolysis of high density polyethylene and low density polyethylene except some difference in quantity of total gas produced, gas composition from polypropylene pyrolysis differs from that of polyethylene pyrolysis. Gases from pyrolysis under air contain much more unsaturated hydrocarbons than those from pyrolysis under inert gas.

  • This study is performed to examine the physical and mechanical properties of eco-concrete with polypropylene fiber. Test results show that the strengths are increased with increase of the content of natural gravel, excellent soil compound and polypropylene fiber. The coefficient of permeability is increased with increase of the content of the polypropylene fiber but it is decreased with increase of the content of natural gravel and excellent soil compound. The lowest coefficient of permeability is achieved by eco-concrete which it is 100 times lower than that of the control. The durability factor is increased with increase of the content of natural gravel and excellent soil compound, and decreased with increase of the content of polypropylene fiber.

  • Biocomposites from polypropylene (PP) and corn cob (CC) were investigated. The effect of corn cob content and maleic anhydride polypropylene (MAPP) as compatibilizer were studied. Results showed that addition of corn cob (CC) in PP have decreased the tensile strength and elongation at break, whereas modulus of elasticity of biocomposites increased. The biocomposites with the MAPP as compatibilizer exhibited higher tensile strength and modulus of elasticity compared biocomposites without MAPP. The morphology study of biocomposites indicates that enhanced the interfacial interaction and adhesion between filler and matrix with the presence of MAPP.

  • Concrete structures has been deteriorated by poor environment. This study was conducted to evaluate durability of concrete which are increasingly demanded recently. Therefore, the research of durability must be executed for application of Polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete real structures. Concrete durability properties incorporating Polypropylene fiber was performed with the variable of Fiber contents, Fiber type and Target strength, specimens were made and subjected to durability and strength tests. The results show that strength of concrete is increased the Fiber content increase, Mono-Filament fiber and Polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete makes improved durability properties.

  • In Europe, polypropylene-insulated HV class cable with high temperature and no cross-linking was commercialized following the MV class. Our company also started a study of the polypropylene-insulated cable in 2013 and was carried out thermal, physical and electrical test. In addition, polypropylene-insulated cable was tested for compatibility with conventional joints and terminations in emergency condition and the accelerated life test for verifying their design life is in progress. The results of this study will be used to establish a standard specification and operation conditions of the polypropylene-insulated cable.
