The telomerization of vinyl acetate with carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and monochlorobenzene were investigated with respect to the synthesis of those telomers, properties and molecular weights of the formed telomers, and reaction mechanisms. Vinyl acetate reacted with carbon tetrachloride and chloroform to form telomers at 70-90$^{\circ}C$ and 60-70$^{\circ}C$, respectively and it formed polymer with monochlorobenzene. As a chain transfer agent, carbon tetrachloride was more effective than chloroform. In the telomerization of vinyl acetate and carbon tetrachloride: 1) The average molecular weight of the telomer decreased as the mole ratio of carbon tetrachloride to vinyl acetate increased. The optimum conditions for the highest yield of the telomer were as follows: Mole ratio of carbon tetrachloride to vinyl acetate : 2.5 Reaction time : 20 hours. 2) As the reaction proceeded, the refractive index and average molecular weight of the telomer increased rapidly in the first 10 hours but the increase was slow through the next 10 hours, so that, the average recurring number(n) of taxogen in the final product reached an almost definite value, i.e., 3. The telomer formed in the telomerization of vinyl acetate with carbon tetrachloride and chloroform turned to brown color in the air due to decomposition or polymerization. The suggested telomerization mechanism was supported by the hexachloroethane detected in the course of reaction.
Nanowires of polytetrakis(o-aminophenyl)porphyrin (PTAPPNW) were fabricated by electrochemical polymerization with the cyclic voltammetric method in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes. The glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by PTAPPNW, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) and Nafion as a binder was investigated with voltammetric methods in a phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution at pH 7.4. The PTAPPNW + SWNT + Nafion/GCE exhibited strongly enhanced voltammetric and amperometric sensitivity towards hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), which shortened the response time and enhanced the sensitivity for $H_2O_2$ determination at an applied potential of 0.0 V by amperometric method. The PTAPPNW + SWNT + Nafion/GCE can be used to monitor $H_2O_2$ at very low concentrations in biological pH as an efficient electrochemical $H_2O_2$ sensor.
The effect of novel N-crotyl-N,N-dimethyl-4-methylanilinium hexafluroantimonate (CMH) curing agent on cure behavior and thermal properties of DGEBA epoxy cationic system was investigated. From DSC measurements of DGEBA/CMH system, it was shown that this system exhibits an excellent thermal latent characteristic in a given temperature and reveals complex cure behavior as indicated by multiple exotherms. The conversion and conversion rate of DGEBA/CMH system increased with increasing the concentration of initiator due to high activity of CMH. Viscoelastic properties during gel formation of DGEBA with CMH were investigated by rheological techniques under isothermal condition. The gel time obtained from the modulus crossover. point t(G')=G", was affected by high curing temperature and concentration of CMH, resulting in high degree of network formation in cationic polymerization. The thermal stabilities were discussed in terms of the activation energy for decomposition and thermal factors determined from TGA measurements.ents.
In this research, an organic thin 13 passivation layer was newly adopted to prefect the organic layer from ambient moisture and oxygen. As the organic thin film passivation layer, poly methyl methacrylate thin films (ppMMA) were deposited using a plasma polymerization technique. In order to their passivation performance for OLEDs, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the ppMMAs were analyzed and luminance-current-voltage (L-I-V)/luminance-time (L-T) characteristics of the OLEDs with and without ppMMA passivation layer were investigated. The OLEDs had a structure of ITO/TPD (HTL)/Alq3(EML&ETL)/Al. The OLED with ppMMA passivation layer showed improved L-T performance than that of without ppMMA passivation layer.
An experimental investigation of the physical properties of light curing composite resin P-50 was performed, in which an argon ion laser beam was irradiated. The physical and mechanical properties of laser polymerized composite resin were determined by measuring the compressive strength, diametral tensile strength, curing depth and microhardness depending upon the experimental conditions such as the laser irradiation time(10sec, 20sec, 30sec) and laser power(300mW, 500mW, 1000mW). These observations were compared with a conventional visible light curing technique. In addition, to evaluate the marginal adaptation, Class V cavity was prepared on the buccal or lingual surface of the extracted premolar and filled with P-50 light curing resin. The test samples were irradiated with both light sources so that the interface between the restoration and the tooth structure were observed under scanning electron microscope. The most of physical and mechanical properties of the laser cured resin showed a remarkable improvement than those treated with the conventional light source, while the observations with the scanning electron microscope provided no significant difference for two polymerized sources. From the results in the experiment it appears that the potential of an argon ion laser is of important value of the use in the polymerization of composite resin.
In this paper, it was demonstrated that organic thin- film transistors (OTFTs) were fabricated with the organic adhesion layer between an organic semiconductor and a gate insulator by vapor deposition polymerization (VDP) processing. In order to form polymeric film as an adhesion layer, VDP process was also introduced instead of spin-coating process, where polymeric film was co-deposited by high-vacuum thermal evaporation from 6FDA and ODA followed by curing. The saturated slop in the saturation region and the subthreshold nonlinearity in the triode region were c1early observed in the electrical output characteristics in our organic thin film transistors using the staggered-inverted top-contact structure. Field effect mobility, threshold voltage, and on-off current ratio in 15-nm-thick organic adhesion layer were about $0.5\;cm^2/Vs$, -1 V, and $10^6$, respectively. We also demonstrated that threshold voltage depends strongly on the delay time when a gate voltage has been applied to bias stress.
Acrylic quarternary polymers were synthesized to prepare high-solid coatings. Acrylic resins were synthesized by the radical polymerization of n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate. From the results of experiment on reaction condition to get high-solid acrylic resins with 70% solid content and viscosity of 1200cps, it was found that di-tert-amyl peroxide among the four types of initiators have lower viscosity and higher degree of conversion. The optinum initiator amount, chain transfer agent, reaction temperature and the dropping time were 5wt%, 4wt%, $150^{\circ}C$ and 5hrs, respectively.
Regenerated cellulose was prepared from Buckeye wood pulp V60 via dissolution in N-methylmorpholin N-oxide (NMMO) solvent system. The effect of antioxidants such as, n-propylgallate (PG), tris(nonylphenyl) phosphite (TRIS), ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA), and magnesium sulfate on the properties of regenerated cellulose was studied using X-ray diffraction, copper index calculation, and viscometry. Only addition of more than 0.01% of PG into NMMO solvent was effective to avoid the reduction of the degree of polymerization(DP) of regenerated cellulose during dissolution at $110^{\circ}C$. However, the early stage(within 0.5h of dissolution process) degradation of cellulose was not prevented eventhough up to 0.5% PG was appled to hot NMMO system. In addition, to recover the expensive NMMO after cellulose regenerating process, the washing filtrate was studied using simple techniques, such as refractive index, pH, and conductivity measurements. Through conductivity measurement result, 4-time of washing was enough to remove the NMMO completely from regenerated cellulose.
Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) is expected to be applied for making patterns below 32 nm in device industry. An ultrathin EUV photoresist (PR) of a few nm in thickness is required to reduce minimum feature size further. Here, we show that pentacene molecular layers can be employed as a new EUV resist for the first time. Dots and lines in nm scale are successfully realized using the new molecular resist. We clearly provide the mechanism for forming the nanopatterns with scanning photoemission microscope (SPEM), EUV interference lithography (EUV-IL), atomic force microscope (AFM), photoemission spectroscopy (PES), etc. The molecular PR has several advantages over traditional polymer EUV PRs; for example, high thermal/chemical stability, negligible outgassing, ability to control the height and width on the nanometer scale, leaving fewer residuals, no need for a chemical development process and thus reduction of chemical waste to make the nanopatterns. Besides, it could be applied to any substrate to which pentacene bonds chemically, such as $SiO_2$, SiN, and SiON, which is of importance in the device industry.
The kenaf is quickly developing as a renewable resource. Kenaf can be grown under a wide range of weather conditions. Modification of kenaf fiber by graft polymerization provides a significant route to alter the chemical properties, including surface hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity. In this study, kenaf fiber surfaces were grafted with acrylic acid as a hydrophilic group using electron beam irradiation. The grafting rate increased with an increase in grafting time. The FT-IR results confirmed that acrylic acid was successfully grafted onto the kenaf fibers. The wettability of the kenaf fiber was increased, accompanied by acylic acid grafting on the fiber surface. According to the permeability test result, it was found that acrylic acid grafted kenaf fiber reinforced cement composite was more reduced than non-grafted kenaf fiber reinforced cement composite.
