  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion in flexure depending on the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio of the polymer-cement composites(PCCs) for crack repair in RC structures to induce optimal mix proportions. The adhesion in flexure of PCCs for crack repair of RC structure has a significant effect on the polymer type and polymer-cement ratio, and the adhesion in flexure is generally improved with mixing of silica fume as a mixture. The adhesion in flexure according to the type of polymer is slightly higher in the order of SAE, EVA, and SBR, and it is relatively high at the polymer-cement ratio of 60% or 80%. In addition, the adhesion in flexure of PCCs with silica fume ratio of 10% or 20% to the cement weight is higher than that without silica fume. In order to improve the adhesion in flexure of PCCs for repairing cracks in RC structures, the optimal mix design is to properly adjust the cement type, polymer type, polymer-cement ratio, and silica fume ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars according to curing conditions. From the test results, the adhesion in tension is seriously affected by type of curing conditions compared with type of polymer dispersions or polymer-cement ratios. The maximum adhesion in tension of EVA-modified mortar with polymer-cement ratio of 20% cured by standard condition is about 1.81 times, the cement mortar cured in water. It is apparent that the adhesion in tension of polymer-modified mortars according to raising of polymer-cement ratio is also much more improved irrespective of type of polymer dispersions and curing conditions.

  • Conductive polymer blends and composites are widely used for different safety application such as electrostatic charge dissipation(ESD), electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding, electrostatic prevention and safety chemical sensor. In order to prepare a impedance-type humidity sensor that is durable at high humidities and high temperature, electically conductive polymer blends based on diallyldimethylammonium chloride(DADMAC) and epoxy were prepared in this study. The polymer blends type conductive ionomer exhibits reaction each other DADMAC and epoxy in FT-IR and DSC analysis. The blends material was traced by new peak at 1600cm-1 and appeard improvement of thermal resistance by melting point shift. Alumina substrate was deposited a pair of gold electrodes by screen printing. The blend material were spin-coated with a thin film type on the surface of alumina substrate. The polymer bleld type sensor exhibits a linear impedance increasing better than DADMAC coated humidity sensor. Also it shows good sensitivity, low hysteresis and durability against high humidity.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fundamental properties of fine type cement grouts with redispersible polymer powders. Cement grouts with redispersible polymer powders are prepared with various polymer-cement ratios, and tested. for flow, water absorption, drying shrinkage, flexural and compressive strengths. From the test results, flow of the cement grouts with EVA and Va/VeoVa polymer powers decreased with increasing elapsed time. Regardless of polymer type, the flexural strength of the cement grouts tends to increase with increase in polymer-cement ratio. The maximum compressive strengths of the cement grouts are obtained at a polymer-cement ratio of $5\%$.

  • A polymer-based planar-lightwave-circuit-type variable optical attenuator (VOA) was fabricated using a hot embossing process. With an optimized one-step embossing process, forty micro-channels for the guidance of light were defined on a polymer thin film with an accuracy of ${\pm}0.5{\mu}m$. The fabricated polymeric thermo-optic VOA shows 30 dB attenuation with 110 mW electrical input power at $1.55{\mu}m$. The rise and fall times are less than 5 ms.

  • This study deals with the properties of polymer-modified mortars with a nitrite-type hydrocalumite, which are effectively used as intelligent patch materials for deteriorated reinforced concrete structures. The calumite is a material that can adsorb the chloride ions (Cl-) causing the corrosion of reinforcing bars and liberate the nitrite ions (NO2-) inhibiting the corrosion in reinforced concrete, and can provide a self-corrosion inhibition function to the reinforced concrete. Polymer-modified mortars using hydrocalumite and terpolymer powders are prepared with various calumite contents and polymer-binder ratios, and tested for corrosion inhibition. Subsequently, regardless of the polymer-binder ratio, the replacement of ordinary portland cement with the calumite has a marked effect on the corrosion-inhibiting property of the polymer-modified mortars.

  • The effects of binder and alumina content on the setting time, drying shrinkage, strength, freezing and thawing resistance and water absorption of polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder were examined. As a result the setting time of the polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder tended to delay with increasing binder content. Irrespective of the type of polymer, the drying shrinkage of the polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder tended to decrease with increasing binder content and alumina powder content. Regardless of the type of polymer, the tensile and adhesion strengths of the polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder tended to increase with increasing binder content and alumina powder content. Irrespective of the type of polymer, the durability factors of the polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder tended to increase with increasing alumina content. Irrespective of the type of polymer, the water absorptions of the polymer-modified pastes with alumina powder tended to decrease with increasing binder content and alumina content.

  • A new polymer replication technology using ultrasonic vibration is proposed and demonstrated. A commercial ultrasonic welder has been used in this experiment. Two different types of nickel molds have been fabricated: pillar type and pore type microstructures. Polymethyl methacrlylate (PMMA) has been used as the replication material and the optimal molding time was 2 sec and 2.5 sec for pillar-type and pore-type micromolds, respectively. Compared with the conventional polymer micromolding techniques, the proposed ultrasonic micromolding technique has the shortest processing time. In addition, only contact area between micromold and polymer substrate is melted so that the thermal shrinkage can be minimized. The fabricated PMMA microstructures have been very accurately replicated without vacuum. The proposed ultrasonic molding technique is a good alternative for high volume production.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adhesion properties of polymer cement composites for crack repair of an RC structure. Polymer cement composites are manufactured from cement, three types of polymers and silica fume, and the mixture is designed by adjusting the water cement ratio and AE reducing agent so that the viscosity target of the polymer cement composites is 700mPa·s or less. According to the test results, the Type-A adhesion in tension of the polymer cement composite exceeded the adhesion standard of 1.0MPa of the polymer finishing material, and furthermore, depending on the type of polymer, the adhesion in tension was highest for SAE, followed in descending order by EVA, and SBR. In addition, the adhesion in tension of Type-B is up to 1/4.5 lower than that of Type-A, but the incorporation of silica fume shows a significant improvement in terms of adhesion in tension. Based on this study, the basic mixing design of the polymer cement composites required for viscosity and adhesive performance required for crack repair of the RC structure was completed. It could be proposed as an optimal mixing design under conditions for intermixing polymer type EVA, SAE, and P/C 80%-100%.
