The fiber formation of conventional melt spinning is extruded by forcing the polymer melt through a spinneret by pumping mechanism usually involving high pressure. This is followed by cooling, solidification and appropriate drawing of the fiber. The spinning process is broadly applicable to polyolefin, polyamide, polyester and indeed the whole range of fibers forming thermoplastic polymers. (omitted)
stereolithography is a process used to rapidly produce polymer components directly from a computer representation of the part. There are several considerations to be made for the efficient use of the process. Especially, the necessity of support structures, which prevent the part from warping, sagging, or parachuting and toppling as the elevator moves up and down in the resin, is one concern. After solidification, the support structures must by removed in the end. Bacause this post-treatment process is often performed manually, the more the support structures, the more it increases the finishing operations. Especially for a complicated part, the removal operations may be difficult, take so much time, and even reduce the accuracy of the product. Thus it is important to efficiently generate the efficient support structure for each part geometry. This paper proposes a procedure to automatically generate the supprot structures focused on accuracy, efficiency, convenience, and generation speed.
Initial burst is one of the major challenges in protein-encapsulated microparticle systems. Since protein release during the initial stage depends mostly on the diffusional escape of the protein, major approaches to prevent the initial burst have focused on efficient encapsulation of the protein within the microparticles. For this reason, control of encapsulation efficiency and the extent of initial burst are based on common formulation parameters. The present article provides a literature review of the formulation parameters that are known to influence the two properties in the emulsion-solvent evaporation/extraction method. Physical and chemical properties of encapsulating polymers, solvent systems, polymer-drug interactions, and properties of the continuous phase are some of the influential variables. Most parameters affect encapsulation efficiency and initial burst by modifying solidification rate of the dispersed phase. In order to prevent many unfavorable events such as pore formation, drug loss, and drug migration that occur while the dispersed phase is in the semi-solid state, it is important to understand and optimize these variables.
Conventional methods for fabricating three-dimensional (3-D) scaffolds have substantial limitations. In this paper, we present 3-D scaffolds that can be made repeatedly with the same dimensions using a microstereolithography system. This system allows the fabrication of a pre-designed internal structure, such as pore size and porosity, by stacking photopolymerized materials. The scaffolds must be manufactured in a material that is biocompatible and biodegradable. In this regard, we synthesized liquid photocurable biodegradable TMC/TMP, followed by acrylation at terminal ends. And also, solidification properties of TMC/TMP polymer are to be obtained through experiments. Cell adhesion to scaffolds significantly affects tissue regeneration. As a typical example, we seeded chondrocytes on two types of 3-D scaffold and compared the adhesion results. Based on these results, the scaffold geometry is one of the most important factors in chondrocyte adhesion. These 3-D scaffolds could be key factors for studying cell behavior in complex environments and eventually lead to the optimum design of scaffolds for the regeneration of various tissues, such as cartilage and bone.
In this study, we fabricated and characterized a nanostructured surface based on a plastic injection molding with a local mold heating (LMH) system. A metal mold core with a closed packed nano convex array (CVA) was achieved by integrated engineering procedures: (1) master template fabrication by anodic aluminum oxidation (AAO), (2) nickel electroforming (NE) process, and (3) post-processing by precision machining. The nickel mold core was utilized to replicate a surface with a closed packed nano concave-array (CCA) based on injection molding using cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) as a plastic material. In particular, an LMH system was introduced to enhance transcription quality of the nano structures by delaying solidification of molten polymer near the surface of the mold core.
