  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in terminologies used in child and family domains of family life education in South and North Korea. The terminologies relevant to child and family domains in North Korea were selected from various sources including dictionaries that are developed to compare South-North Korean languages, reports and websites by ministry of unification in South Korea, magazines and news articles about North Korean daily life. The collected terminologies were analyzed using the content criteria on core concepts, 'development' and 'relations' from the 2015 proclamation of the ministry of education on home economics curriculum. The major differences between the two Koreas were as follows: first, the terms categorized under human development were more divergent compared to the terms categorized under family relations. Specifically, there were big differences in terminologies in the love and marriage section, the life and labor in pregnancy section in human development and the child caring section in family relations. Second, dissimilar terms were more frequently appeared in content area of kinship, marriage, and child-rearing. Third, the discrepancies of terms between the two Koreas were brought about primarily by differences in political and social system, language refinement, and transcription techniques. These findings including the terminology list would be a practical resources providing for students to familiarize with the differences in the usage of terms and for teachers to develop a home economics educational program in provision of reunification of the Koreas.

  • This study investigates the factors determining accounting method for R & D costs (capitalize vs. expense) in Korea. Using agency theory and other economic factors, probit and regression models have been developed to distinguish between firms choosing different accounting alternatives for R&D costs. The results are consistent to debt contract, R&D burden and regulation hypotheses both in probit and regression analysis. The size variable has opposite sign in univariate t-test and probit analysis but the signs are mixed and insignificant in regression which may be due to the differences of political environment between Korea and the US. Generally, the results are consistent to those of previous research. The results support the hypothesis that firms with higher leverage and larger burden of R&D costs are more likely to capitalize R&D costs. Partially, larger and regulated firms are more likely to expense R & D costs.

  • The present paper mainly conerns with the four controversial issues: the exact period in which the Cholik was introduced into Korea, the morphological characteristics, the phonological and semantic aspects of the term itself. First, upon the political and serial ground, the Cholik was introduced at the later part of mid-koryo dynasty. Second, the original form of 'Cholik' was modeled after the Mongolian 'pyok-jok-po', an outwear with pleated skirt. Third, the term 'cholik' was derived from Mongolian 'terlig'. It came through China with the Chinese letters but the term maintained the Mongolian sound. The variety of the present pronunciations like 'chorik', 'chonik', 'chomni' and various notations in Chinese letters could be attributed to different phonological changes and analogy. Last, th original meaning of cholik was somewhat similar to 'militia' or 'soldier', but the social function of the wearer gradually discolored to indicate only the costume for lower officials or the military uniform.

  • Game theory is adapted to a variety of domains such as economics, biology, engineering, political science, computer science, and philosophy in order to analyze economic behaviors. This research is an application of game theory to wireless communication. In particular, in terms of bargaining game we dealt with a multimedia resource allocation problem in wireless communication, which is rapidly spreading such as Wibro, WCDML, IPTV, etc. The algorithm is assumed to allocate multimedia resources to users who can choose and access differentiated media services. For this purpose, 3 utility function of users is devised to reflect quality of service (QoS) and price. We illustrated experimental results with synthesis data which were made to mimic real multimedia data, and analyzed differentiated service providing and the effect of the utility function.

  • Participants in Open Source Software (OSS) development projects usually contribute voluntarily without expecting direct compensation for their work. One of the central puzzles raised by the success of OSS is the motivation of the participants; why top-notch programmers choose to write software that is released for no fee. In order to respond to this peculiarity employing a meta-research method, we first identify and review theoretical perspectives from diverse disciplines including economics, sociology, political science, anthropology, psychology, and management. Then, we suggest a comprehensive framework that provides a holistic understanding of the puzzle in question. Reviewing key empirical studies based on the suggested framework, we also suggest a future research agenda.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the development of the pharmaceutical distribution industry. The pharmaceutical industry is are expected to suffer a heavy blow when the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is introduced, despite its best efforts. Therefore, adequate solutions must be found. Section II introduces the Korean pharmaceutical distribution system and its current situation; Section III explores the distribution system's strengths and weaknesses. Section IV, identifies the problem and possible solutions for the Korean pharmaceutical distribution system; Section V summarizes and concludes this paper and acknowledges its limitations. Finally, this paper has a clear limitation. The lack of objective information and scientific analysis due to the data being based on interviews with company representatives is its most significant shortcoming. However, it offers implications for new directions for future research.

  • There have been a number of studies and analysis designed to explain imports and exports disaggregated by commodities in many countries. These analyses, however, all concentrate on the trading patterns of industrial countries, and there has been very little of systematic analyses of the imports and exports by types of commodities for developing countries. There is, of course, an obvious reason for ignoring these countries, and that has to do with the availability, or rather paucity, of adequate data; it is widely known that the data on prices of disaggregated imports and exports are most difficult to obtain. The purpose of this paper is to study and analyze the behavior of the imports of Korea at disaggregated levels during the period 1965-1974. Data on imports at a disaggregated level have recently been made available in Korea for a seven-commodity breakdown. These seven categories cover some 90% of the total Korean imports.

  • The political and technological countermeasures to cope with the UR problems are under studying at present or some of them are already applied to increas farm household income. It is evident that the leisture farm development is considered the best alternative among the countermeasures. On account of mitigating labour shortage, a most difficult problem encountered by agriculture, and of promoting consumption of farm products, the leisure farm development could increase farm household incomes accoringly. This study is ultimately aimed at identifing the countermeasures to increase farm household incomes by suggestion of the improvement of leisure farm management thorough survey of the present leisure farm management status. The leisure farm. management survey was carried out based on the seven leisure farms such as Songnam, Cheongrock, Yusung, Duryong, Hwachun, Maesan and Sinhuck which are saperately located in Chungnam Province.
