  • Recently, the dual-polarized antenna array has drawn attention due to the dependency of its signal processing gain on the signal polarization. Even though this polarization dependency makes it possible to mitigate a non-right-hand circularly polarized (non-RHCP) jamming signal from the same direction as a GPS signal, the dual-polarized antennas are not yet widely used for various applications. This study suggests a method that can acquire the polarization dependency of the signal-processing gain by intentionally misaligning antenna elements in a single-polarized antenna array. The simulation results show that the proposed method can successfully mitigate a non-RHCP jammer from the same direction as a GPS signal as if a dual-polarized antenna array does and provide comparable signal-to-jammer-plus-noise ratio (SJNR) performance with a completely aligned single-polarized antenna array and a dual-polarized antenna array.

  • For a fixed positive integer g, we let $\mathcal{P}_g=\{Y{\in}\mathbb{R}^{(g,g)}{\mid}Y=^tY>0\}$ be the open convex cone in the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{g(g+1)/2}$. Then the general linear group GL(g, $\mathbb{R}$) acts naturally on $\mathcal{P}_g$ by $A{\star}Y=AY^tA(A{\in}GL(g,\mathbb{R}),\;Y{\in}\mathcal{P}_g)$. We introduce a notion of polarized real tori. We show that the open cone $\mathcal{P}_g$ parametrizes principally polarized real tori of dimension g and that the Minkowski modular space 𝔗g = $GL(g,\mathbb{Z}){\backslash}\mathcal{P}_g$ may be regarded as a moduli space of principally polarized real tori of dimension g. We also study smooth line bundles on a polarized real torus by relating them to holomorphic line bundles on its associated polarized real abelian variety.

  • Wind speeds have long been estimated from C-band VV-polarized SAR data by using the CMOD algorithms such as CMOD4, CMOD5, and CMOD_IFR2. Some SAR data with HH-polarization without any observations in VV-polarization mode should be converted to VV-polarized value in order to use the previous algorithms based on VV-polarized observation. To satisfy the necessity of polarization ratio (PR) for the conversion, we retrieved the conversion parameter from full-polarized SIR-C SAR image off the east coast of Korea. The polarization ratio for SIR-C SAR data was estimated to 0.47. To assess the accuracy of the polarization ratio coefficient, pseudo VV-polarized normalized radar cross section (NRCS) values were calculated and compared with the original VV-polarized ones. As a result, the estimated psudo values showed a good agreement with the original VV-polarized data with an root mean square error by 0.99 dB. We applied the psudo NRCS to the estimation of wind speeds based on the CMOD wind models. Comparison of the retrieved wind field with the ECMWF and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis wind data showed relatively small rms errors of 1.88 and 1.91 m/s, respectively. SIR-C HH-polarized SAR wind retrievals met the requirement of the scatterometer winds in overall. However, the polarization ratio coefficient revealed dependence on NRCS value, wind speed, and incident angle.

  • We investigate the radiation characteristics of radially polarized light and azimuthally polarized light through plasmonic subwavelength-scale annular slit (PSAS) structures, by means of both theoretical and numerical methods. Effective-medium theory was utilized to analyze the characteristics of PSAS structures, and the corresponding results showed that PSAS structures can function as a metallic medium for azimuthally polarized light, or as a low-loss dielectric medium for radially polarized light. Numerical calculations based on the finite-element method were also performed, to verify the theoretical analyses. It turned out that the numerical results supported the theoretical results. Moreover, we exploited the PSAS structures in novel nanophotonic elements with dual functionalities that could selectively focus or pass/block incident light, depending on its polarization state. For example, if PSAS structures were implemented in the dielectric region of a metallic Fresnel zone plate, the modified zone plate could function as a blocking element to azimuthally polarized light, yet as a focusing element to radially polarized light. On the contrary, if PSAS structures were implemented in the metallic region of a metallic Fresnel zone plate (i.e. the inverted form of the former), it could function as a focusing element to azimuthally polarized light, yet as a simple transparent element to radially polarized light.

  • In this paper, we developed the new non-rubbing liquid crystal (LC) alignment techniques in the cell with slanted non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation on polyimide (PI) film. It is shown that the uniform alignment for nematic (N) LC is obtained by using slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface. We successfully obtained that the pretilt angle of NLC is generated about 3.3 degree in the cell with slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation with 70 degree on PI surface, for the first time. It is considered that the pretilt angle generation in NLC is attributed to interaction between the LC molecular and the PI, which is broken the polymer by slanted non-polarized UV irradiation. Therefore, we concluded that the uniform LC alignment is attributed to anisotropic dispersion force due to photo depolymerization with slanted non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface.

  • It was known that chalcogenide glasses have the superior property of the photoinduced anisotropy(PA). In this study we observed the phenomenon of Ag polarized-photodoping in chalcogenide As$_{40}$ /Ge$_{10}$/Se$_{15}$ /S$_{35}$ and the double-layer of Ag doped As$_{40}$ /Ge$_{10}$/Se$_{15}$ /S$_{35}$ thin film using the irradiation with the polarized He-Ne laser light. The Ag polarized-photodoping results in reducing the time of saturation anisotorpy and increasing the sensitivity of linearly anisotropy intensity up to maximum 220% The Ag polrized-photodoping shows improvement of the photoinduced anisotropy property in polarized photodoping of the chalcogenide thin film. It will offer lots of information for the photodoping mechanism and analysis of chalcogenide thin film.in film.ilm.

  • Dual-polarized transmission is one of the effective methods to transmit such a high speed data thanks to two independent channel leads to the orthogonal feature between RHCP (Right-Hand Circular Polarization) and LHCP (Left-Hand Circular Polarization). However, in practical case, the transmitted signal by RHCP polarized antenna in satellite can be occurred at the output port of LHCP polarized antenna in ground station, vice versa. XPD (Cross-Polarization Discrimination) is the ratio of the signal level at the output of a receiving antenna that is nominally co-polarized to the transmitting antenna to the output of a receiving antenna of the same gain but nominally orthogonally polarized to the transmitting antenna. In this paper, the detailed estimation of XPD within the interface between satellite and ground station is written and the influence of XPD to link performance is also described.

  • Photoresponsive side chain copolymer and homopolymer containing an aminonitroazobenzene were synthesized for studying photoisomerization behavior and photo-induced anisotropy. Trans-to-cis photoisomerization was observed under the exposure of a circularly polarized visible light with UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. Reorientation of polar azobenzene molecules induced optical anisotropy under a linearly polarized light at 532nm. Polarized absorption spectroscopy was employed to investigate the anisotropy of the polymer film during irradiationg of the excitation light. Layers of two photosensitive polymers were used for aligning liquid crystal(LC) molecules instead of one of the rubbed polyimide layers in the conventional twisted nematic cell. For producing homogeneous alignment of a nematic LC molecule, a linearly polarized light was exposed to the films of two polymers. The stability of the LC alignment upon the linearly polarized light exposure was also studied.

  • The antenna arrays are known to be effective for GPS anti-jamming and the performance can be improved further if a dual-polarized antenna array is used. However, when the Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR) beamformer is used as a signal processing algorithm for the dual-polarized antenna array, the anti-jamming performance can degrade in the presence of errors in the steering vector that is a key factor of the MVDR beamformer. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of the steering vector error on the anti-jamming performance of the dual-polarized antenna array is analyzed by simulations and the result is compared to that of the single-polarized antenna array.

  • In this research, we design a microstrip patch antenna with circularly polarized form. First, we study patch form of circularly polarized antenna caused by 90-degree phase difference, and simulate using Ensemble 5.0 to make the left-hand and right-hand circularly polarized antenna. We made circularly polarized antenna using microstrip substrate based on result of the simulation, and analyzed manufactured circularly polarized antenna using Network Analysis.
