A mobile ultrasound scanner developed for use in point-of-care applications is introduced, which can not only provide ultrasound images but can also measure various bio-signals. The mobile ultrasound scanner is also designed to meet the demanding requirements for point-of-care diagnosis, such as battery-powered operation, portability in terms of size and weigh, and real-time wireless communications capability for remote diagnosis. To meet these requirements, an efficient beamforming method for high resolution imaging with a small number of active elements, a hardware efficient beamformer architecture, and echo processing algorithms with greatly reduced computational complexity have been developed. Experimental results show that the prototype mobile ultrasound scanner is fully functional and satisfies most of the design requirements.

Background: Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection is ubiquitous around the world. Diagnosis of the porcine circovirus-associated disease requires clinic-pathological elements together with the quantification of viral loads. Furthermore, given pig farms in regions lacking access to sufficient laboratory equipment, developing diagnostic devices with high accuracy, accessibility, and affordability is a necessity. Objectives: This study aims to investigate two newly developed diagnostic tools that may satisfy these criteria. Methods: We collected 250 specimens, including 170 PCV2-positive and 80 PCV2-negative samples. The standard diagnosis and cycle threshold (Ct) values were determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Then, two point-of-care (POC) diagnostic platforms, convective polymerase chain reaction (cPCR, qualitative assay: positive or negative results are shown) and EZtargex (quantitative assay: Ct values are shown), were examined and analyzed. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of cPCR were 88.23% and 100%, respectively; the sensitivity and specificity of EZtargex were 87.65% and 100%, respectively. These assays also showed excellent concordance compared with the qPCR assay (κ = 0.828 for cPCR and κ = 0.820 for EZtargex). The statistical analysis showed a great diagnostic power of the EZtargex assay to discriminate between samples with different levels of positivity. Conclusions: The two point-of-care diagnostic platforms are accurate, rapid, convenient and require little training for PCV2 diagnosis. These POC platforms can discriminate viral loads to predict the clinical status of the animals. The current study provided evidence that these diagnostics were applicable with high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of PCV2 infection in the field.
Purpose : The aims of this study were to identify the incidence of pressure ulcers and to compare the predictive validities of pressure ulcer risk assessment scales among trauma patients. Methods : This was a prospective observational study. A total of 155 patients admitted to a trauma intensive care unit in a university hospital were enrolled. The predictive validity of the Braden, Cubbin & Jackson, and Waterlow scales were assessed based on the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results : Of the patients, 14 (9.0%) subsequently developed pressure ulcers. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values, and negative predictive values were 78.6%, 75.9%, 24.4%, and 97.3%, respectively, for the Braden scale (cut-off point of 12); 85.7%, 68.8%, 21.4%, and 98.0%, respectively, for the Cubbin & Jackson scale (cut-off point of 26); and 71.4%, 87.2%, 35.7%, and 96.9%, respectively, for the Waterlow scale (cut-off point of 18). The AUCs were 0.88 (Waterlow), 0.86 (Braden), and 0.85 (Cubbin & Jackson). Conclusion : The findings indicate that the predictive validity values of the Waterlow, Braden, and Cubbin & Jackson scales were similarly high. However, further studies need to also consider clinical usefulness of the scales.

Purpose: This study was performed to identify relationships among stress, hardiness, and the level of self-care in kidney transplant patients and use the results of this study as baseline data for developing self-care promotion programs. Method: Subjects were 41 patients who undergone a kidney transplantation surgery at least one month before and were receiving regular follow-up care via OPD. Four researchers interviewed each subjects by filling out questionnaires. Results: The mean score of the level of stress was 2.32(SD=0.54) on a 4 point scale and the mean score of hardiness was 4.68(SD=0.62) on a 6 point scale. The mean score of self-care among the subjects was 3.83(SD=0.55). There was statistically a significant positive relationship between selfcare and hardiness(r=0.42). Especially, relationships between self-care and commitment (r=.51) and control(r=.36) as the subdimensions of hardiness were significant. The item suggested as most stressful was economic burden and the item suggested as least stressful was sexual activity. Conclusion: Although transplant patients have various stressors, the positive self-care activities of the patients could be increased if the commitment and control were enhanced by proper intervention programs.
This study was carried out for the age 60years over who are attending a villa house for the aged during day time. The purpose of this study was to measure occurance rate of Diabetes by self cognitiveness about their disease of Diabetes; by result of urine test tape test and a questionaire study and self-care behavior about Diabetes. The results of the study are summarized as follow: 1. General Characteristics of the suryeyed. The population studied consisted of 143 males and 256 females comprising $73.9\%$ of the total population registered at the elderly villa house at the time of the study. The mean age group of the study was 70-79 years; educational level $77.2\%$ was below than primary education. 2. The results of Diabetes study. The number of cases who were self-recognized about their Diabetes were 19; 8 males and 11 females. The number of urine sugar positive cases was 35; 19 males and 16 females. The consistency rate of positive urine sugar test was $93.5\%$ An average degree of the results of knowledge test about Diabetes was 1. 4 point. When the correct 1 item was given 1 point for the 6 item of questions. Among 19 cases of self-recognized disease group an average degree of the knowledge test results was 2. 3 point and among the 35 cases of the urine test positive group an average degree of the knowledge test results was 1. 7 point. The average degree of self -care behavior about Diabetes was 1. 6 point when measued 3 point scale on the self-care behavior for the 7 item of questions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate risk factors related to delirium and to develop screening model on delirium occurrence in MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit) patients. Methods: For developing a preliminary tool for delirium, the data of 166 patients were collected and analyzed. In order to estimate the accuracy and discriminating power for the developed screening model, 98 patients were enrolled. The data used in this study were collected by EMR (Electronic Medical Record) review from January to September in 2012. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/PC Win 18.0 program. Results: Screening model on delirium in MICU patients was developed using the results of logistic regression. The total score of screening model was 24 point and measuring point was 10 point. When the measuring point is over 10 point, it means that the risk of delirium occurrence is high. The discriminating power and the validity of screening model showed AUC .908 (p <.001) and .935 (p <.001) respectively. This result showed that the screening model on delirium which developed in this study was an appropriate model for screening the delirium risk group in MICU. The sensitivity of the screening model was 83%, specificity 89% and accuracy 84%. Conclusion: The developed screening model on delirium occurrence in MICU should be combined with EMR for screening and preventing delirium in a high risk group.
Background: This study examines the clinical effect on quality of life of herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation administration for a cervicogenic dizziness (CGD) patient. This case report was described in accordance with CARE guidelines. Case Report: A 25 year-old female patient suspected to be suffering from CGD was examined. The patient was treated with herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation. We used the Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6), Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), 36-Item Short Form Health Survey Version 2 (SF-36v2), and verbal numerical rating scale (VNRS) to assess the patient's symptoms. As new herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation were applied, dizziness, headache, and neck pain symptoms improved. Quality of life affected by the symptoms significantly improved. Adverse effects were not observed. Conclusions: This study may suggest that herbal medicine and local acupuncture point stimulation may be effective therapy for the treatment of typical symptoms in patients with CGD.
The purpose of this study is to examine how providing care to grandchildren and the continuity of care affects the grandparents' perception on old-age support. Specifically, in this study, providing care is divided into three continuous types: did not provide care, provided care at one point in time and provided care at two points in time. This is done to investigate how the duration of providing care influences the perception on old-age support. The results show that grandparents providing care to their grandchildren prefer to reside with their own children in the future more often than those who do not provide care to their grandchildren. Furthermore, grandparents providing care to their grandchildren during two-time points and grandparents providing care during one-time point prefer to reside with their adult children in the future more than grandparents providing care not once during two-time points. Interestingly, grandparents who provide care to grandchildren during two-time points prefer to reside with their children in the future more frequently than grandparents providing care during just one-time point. These results suggest it is likely that grandparents recognize providing care to their grandchildren as an insurance in care and support for themselves in the future. Additionally, these results suggest that the family plays an efficient and flexible role to meet needs of family members through a reciprocal relationship in Korean society where the public sector is weak. These findings have suggested theoretical implications.
