  • A defect in an image is a set of pixels forming an irregular shape. Since a defect, in most cases, is not easy to be modeled mathematically, the defect detection problem still resides in a research area. If a given image, however, composed by certain patterns, a defect can be detected by the fact that a non-defect area should be explained by another patch in terms of a rotation, translation, and noise. In this paper, therefore, the defect detection method for a repeated multi-patterned image is proposed. The proposed defect detection method is composed of three steps. First step is the interest point detection step, second step is the selection step of a appropriate patch size, and the last step is the decision step. The proposed method is illustrated using SEM images of semiconductor wafer samples.

  • In this paper, a POI(Point-of-Interest) telematics service platform, in which detailed POI telematics services are discovered automatically and provided, is developed. The platform discovers services with UPnP middleware and provides a location-based service using GIS information. It is implemented by a telematics server, terminals, and service gateways and tested by applying test scenario for validation. Also, the response time and throughput of UPnP messages in the platform is measured and analyzed. The result shows that it has little impact on the service network congestion.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between the mother's interest in weight control and its association with the preschooler's obesity and weight related concerns. This was a cross-sectional study based on 470 parents' self-reports. To score interests in weight control, mothers rated each of 6 items on a five-point Likert scale ranging from disagree (1) to agree (5). The perceptions of mothers' weights and their children's weights, mothers' Body Mass Index (BMI), preschoolers' Weight-Length Index (WLI) (%), and weight-related concerns were determined. The mothers' BMI was significantly correlated with interest scores of weight control in mothers (r=0.632, p<0.001) while their children's obesity was weakly correlated with the mothers' interest scores (r=0.133, p=0.025). Mothers with a high interest of weight control reported higher percentages of family history of obesity than mothers with lower interests (63.2% vs. 36.8%, p<0.001). Two-thirds of the mothers (65.4%) were accurate in their perceptions about their weights. Similarly, 63.7% of mothers knew exactly their children's weight-statuses. Compared with mothers with low interest in weight controls, mothers with high interest in weight control had lower correct-perceptions about their weights (p<0.05) but higher correct-perceptions about their children's weights. More than two-thirds of mothers (85%) reported not worrying about their children's obesity in the future. Only 14.3% of the mothers were satisfied with their current weight statuses. Three-fourths of mothers preferred exercise as an effective weight-control method for their children, 20% preferred diet therapy and 5.5% preferred behavior modification. More girls were overweight / obese, than boys (overweight: 16.1% (girl) vs. 12.8% (boy), obese: 5.4% (girl) vs. 4.5% (boy)). About 40% of overweight girls' mothers had low interests in their weight controls with low correct-perceptions in their children's weights, which suggests possible elevated risk of obesity, especially in girls, in the future.

  • In this study, the relationships among cognitive conflict, situational interest, and conceptual change in studying boiling point were investigated. The differences in the relationships by gender were also investigate. Students of 7th grade(N=370) participated in this study. First, a preconception test was administered to choose students who possessed the misconception studied. After presenting anomalous data, test of response to anomalous data and state interest test were administered. After the instruction with a CAI program, a conception test was administered immediately. The conception test was administered again as a retention test four weeks later. The scores of both cognitive conflicts and state interest test were found to be significantly correlated with the scores of the conception test and the retention test. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that state interest was significantly more important than cognitive conflict in prediction the degrees of conceptual change and retention of conception. For male students, state interest was the only significant predictor of conceptual change and retention of conception. In contrast, cognitive conflict was the only significant predictor for female students.

  • Users tend to check in and post their statuses in location-based social networks (LBSNs) to describe that their interests are related to a point-of-interest (POI). While previous studies on discovering area-of-interests (AOIs) were conducted mostly on the basis of density-based clustering methods with the collection of geo-tagged photos from LBSNs, we focus on estimating a POI boundary, which corresponds to only one cluster containing its POI center. Using geo-tagged tweets recorded from Twitter users, this paper introduces a density-based low-complexity two-phase method to estimate a POI boundary by finding a suitable radius reachable from the POI center. We estimate a boundary of the POI as the convex hull of selected geo-tags through our two-phase density-based estimation, where each phase proceeds with different sizes of radius increment. It is shown that our method outperforms the conventional density-based clustering method in terms of computational complexity.

  • Mobile tour guide applications help tourists to search for and visit their surrounding POIs(Points of Interest) of their locations and to obtain their guide information. With the development of wearable devices like smart watches and wearable glasses, people using multiple mobile devices are increasing; a tourist may use a hand-held device, a wearable device or both to obtain tour information. However, most mobile tour guides using mobile devices provide the tour information with little consideration of their hand-held and wearable characteristics. In particular, a tourist with multiple mobile devices who search for the tour information from multiple mobile devices must input their intention separately to each device. To alleviate these problems, we propose a mobile tour guide system with the following features: one is to reduce redundant user input by sharing the touring context between hand-held and wearable devices; the other is to present tour information according to capabilities and usage pattern of the devices. The proposed system guides tourists by complementing disadvantage of the devices and also minimizes user interaction between applications and tourists.

  • Purpose: This study uses 'Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Model' to predict the impact of a sharp drop in the base rate due to COVID-19 at the present time when government policies for stabilizing house prices are in progress. The purpose of this study is to predict implications for the direction of the government's house policy by predicting changes in house transaction prices and house rental prices after a sharp cut in the base rate. Research design, data, and methodology: The ARIMA intervention model can build a model without additional information with just one time series. Therefore, it is a time-series analysis method frequently used for short-term prediction. After the subprime mortgage, which had shocked since the global financial crisis in April 2007, the bank's interest rate in 2020 is set at a time point close to zero at 0.75%. After that, the model was estimated using the interest rate fluctuations for the Bank of Korea base interest rate, the house transaction price index, and the house rental price index as event variables. Results: In predicting the change in house transaction price due to interest rate intervention, the house transaction price index due to the fall in interest rates was predicted to change after 3 months. As a result, it was 102.47 in April 2020, 102.87 in May 2020, and 103.21 in June 2020. It was expected to rise in the short term. In forecasting the change in house rental price due to interest rate intervention, the house rental price index due to the drop in interest rate was predicted to change after 3 months. As a result, it was 97.76 in April 2020, 97.85 in May 2020, and 97.97 in June 2020. It was expected to rise in the short term. Conclusions: If low interest rates continue to stimulate the contracted economy caused by COVID-19, it seems that there is ample room for house transaction and rental prices to rise amid low growth. Therefore, In order to stabilize the house price due to the low interest rate situation, it is considered that additional measures are needed to suppress speculative demand.

  • To establish the reliability of a packaging structures, adhesion testing of key interfaces is a critical task. Due to the material mismatch, the interface may be prone to delamination failure due to conditions during the manufacturing of the product or just from the day-to-day use. To assess the reliability of the interface adhesion strength testing can be performed during the design phase of the product. One test method of interest is the four-point bending (4PB) adhesion strength test method. This test method has been implemented in a variety of situations to evaluate the adhesion strength of interfaces in bimaterial structures to the interfaces within thin film multilayer stacks. This article presents a review of the 4PB adhesion strength testing method and key implementations of the technique in regards to semiconductor packaging.

  • To identify the bridge information from the response of test vehicles passing on it (also known as the indirect approach) has aroused the interest of many researchers thanks to its economy, easy implementation and less disruption to traffic. The surface roughness of bridge remains an obstacle for such method as it contaminates the vehicle response severely and thereby renders many vehicle-response-based bridge identification methods ineffective. This study aims to eliminate such effect with the responses of two different test vehicles. The proposed method can estimate the surface profile of a bridge based on the acceleration data of the vehicles running on the bridge successively, and obtain the normalized contact point response, which proves to be relatively immune to surface roughness. The frequencies and mode shapes of bridge can be further extracted from the normalized contact point acceleration with spectral analysis and Hilbert transform. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified numerically with a three-span continuous bridge. The influence of measurement noise is also examined.
