This study is aimed at developing a supply-demand model of wood products, and outlook for mid-term and long-term supply and demand for each products. The main wood products include sawnwood, plywood, particle board, fiberboard (MDF), and pulp. The partial equilibrium model is composed of supply function, import demand function, demand function, price relation function. With given parameters the outlook for year 2050 says that sawnwood, plywood, and fiberboard for domestic productions and imports are decreased. This may result from the increase of log prices from the inside and outside of the country because of the propensity for environment protection and the resource nationalism. On the other hand the supply of particle board and pulp will increase because they are made from wasted wood and chips.
Exterior grades of Douglas-fir and aspen plywood were impregnated with interior fire-retardant chemicals and redried under low-, intermediate-, and high-temperature drying conditions. Fire-retardant treatments included borax-boric acid, chromated zinc chloride, minalith, pyresote, and a commercial formulation. Drying processes included kiln and press-drying. Evaluated were drying rates and defects generated. The borax-boric acid and the commercial treatments redried at rates similar to water-treated controls. Other salt treatments were significantly slower drying and more defect prone. Chromated zinc chloride treatment was consistently the slowest drying and most defect prone. Press drying was three times faster at an equivalent temperature level. However, thickness shrinkage doubled because of 50 1b/in. platen pressure.
This study was carried out in order to investigate the treatment effect of PEG soln which is a common dimensional stabilizer to green log. sawing panel etc, on bonding product including plywood widely-used in secondary processing unit. The 30% concentration of aqueous PEG soln. with molecular weight of 400, 1.000 and 4,000 were prepared respectively, and also dipping the veneer in the PEG soln. spreading the PEG soln. on veneer and mixing the PEG soln. in the adhesive were allowed. Then the ratio of PEG impregnation on veneer, the adhesive strength of plywood were epitomized as follows: The ratio of impregnation by PEG 4,000 at dipping condition was highest. while that by PEG 400 at same condition was lowest. However, the effect of PEG molecular weight on the ratio of impregnation at spreading condition did not occur. 2. The adhesive strength was great in the order of 4,000>400>1,000 in molecular weight of PEG at dipping and spreading conditions. In case of mixing the PEG soln. in the adhesive, the adhesive strength was great in the order of 400>1,000>4,000 in molecular weight of PEG. Throughout three treatment conditions, PEG 400 was relatively favourable with about 10kg/$cm^2$ dry strength. 3. The adhesive strength was great 10 the order of spreading >dipping >mixing condition. 4. Although adhesive strength with the 30% concentration of aqueous PEG soln. was decreased by 35% and over, compared to control (non-treatment) adhesive strength, all types of PEG treatment except mixing the PEG soln. in the adhesive exceeded the standard dry strength for common use panel. 7.5kg/$cm^2$. 5. In warm water-proof test, the adhesive strengths by all PEG treatment conditions were less than the standard wet strength, 7.5kg cot, and also delamination of glue line occured mostly in mixing in the PEG soln. in the adhesive condition.

The objective of this study was to measure and compare the radiation heat load generated through a few chosen shade-materials that would protect animals from the direct solar radiation heat in summer condition. The results obtained from this study are as follows; 1. when the materials were used in original state, the most effective material for radiation heat reduction was slate, followed by aluminum and galvanized steel successively. 2. The radiation heat load under the white top and black underside aluminum was 2.5 Cal. per hour per square cm less than that under the bare aluminum of their diurnal peak. 3. When the modified galvanized steel was used, the radiation heat load was reduced as much as 2.4 cal per hour per square cm by attaching plywood under the galvanized steel, 3.9 cal per hour per square cm by attaching plywood and coating white paint on the top of the galvanized steel. The galvanized steel covered by hay material showes similar result as that of the galvanized steel lined with plywood. 4. In case of slate, the radiation heat reduction value was increased by using bare slate, white top slate and white-top-black-underside slate in the descending order. 5. The calculated value of radiosity of inside surface of aluminum was about 20 percent of the radiation heat load, the reduced value of radiosity by coating paint was considered to be indirect indication of the effect of total radiation heat load reduction of painted surface. 6. About an hour of the time lag of radiation heat load peak on sept. 10 for slate materials should be investigated more comprehensively in future.

As concrete forms, panel forms made of plywood used to be widely used, but recently a system form made of aluminum has been broadly adopted because of the advantages it offers in terms of constructability and economy. However, an aluminum form reacts with concrete, which is alkali, and creates hydrogen gas. As a result, air pockets occur on the concrete's surface, and its finishability deteriorates. Therefore, this research analyzed the relationship between the distribution of voids and surface roughness and the damage degree and number of uses of the aluminum form. The analysis of the distribution of voids shows that the number of voids of 0.1~1 mm, which are considered to have occurred because of chemical reaction, was 200~500 on the coating plywood, but was 1 500~2 000 on the aluminum form after 3 uses, and impossible to count after a higher number of uses. Surface roughness was $1.7{\sim}3.2{\mu}m$ on the coating plywood form, but was about $2.6{\mu}m$ after the first use and about $6.8{\mu}m$ after 10 uses, a 2.6-fold increase. Distribution of voids did not show a particular tendency depending upon the degree of damage to the concrete form, but surface roughness showed an increasing tendency as the degree of damage grows. Therefore, when using aluminum forms, surface maintenance should be carried out completely, such as prevention of damages to the form surface coating materials and spreading of separating materials on forms.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate concentrations of organic solvent mixtures in air of rotogravure printing workplaces. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic solvents contained in the gravure inks used at rotogravure factories had been done. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The gravure inks mainly consist of toluene, methyl ethyl ketone(MEK), and ethyl acetate(EA), and traces of isopropyl alcohol(IPA), xylene, 2-butanol, cyclohexane, cellosolve etc were also contained in them. 2. Thinner used as a diluent consist of toluene, MEK, and EA. 3. Geometric mean concentration of toluene in ambient air were 23.81 ppm at gravure printing of packing material, 42.10 ppm at gravure printing of wallpaper, 16.95 ppm at gravure printing of plastic bottle for beverage and 4.31 ppm at gravure printing of plywood printing or floor covering. Concentrations of toluene in ambient air showed statistically significant difference between types of printing. 4. Concentrations of MEK in ambient air were 12.43 ppm at gravure printing of packing material, 5.47 ppm at gravure printing of wallpaper, 16.78 ppm at gravure printing of plastic bottle for beverage and 16.44 ppm at gravure printing of plywood printing or floor covering. MEK concentrations in ambient air showed no significant difference. 5. Conentrations of EA were 14.30 ppm at gravure printing of packing material, 1.92 ppm at gravure printing of wallpaper and 21.12 ppm at gravure printing of plywood printing or floor covering. EA concentrations in ambient air shown significant difference. 6. Percentage of the workplaces where the ambient air concentration of organic solvent mixtures exceeded the Korean Permissble Exposure Level(KPEL) amounted to 18.03%. 7. Toluene concentrations in ambient air of rotogravure printing workplaces ranged from 0.69 to 156.02 ppm and urinary hippuric acid excretion ranged from 0.10 to $1.32g/{\ell}$.
The purpose of this study was to investigate and develop an eco-frendly wood adhesive based on vegetable oil (especially soybean oil), the renewable and sustainable natural resources, using ozonification technology for the chemical structure modification. The waste soybean oil (WSBO) was reacted with $O_3$ at the rate of $450m{\ell}$(acetone) : $50m{\ell}$ (WSBO) for different times, 1, 2, 3 hrs. The investigation of the modified chemical strecture of the ozonied WSBOs were conducted using FT-IR. As ozonification time increased, the peak of the unsaturated double bonds was disappeared especially ozonized-3hrs and aldehyde or carboxyl peak appeared because ozonification broke the oil into small molecules. The plywood were made at $150^{\circ}C$ with 4 minutes hot-press time using the different ozonized 3 hrs WSBO/pMDI adhesives and were tested for the dry, wet, cyclic boil test according to the Korea Industrial Standard F3101 Ordinary plywood. The bond strengths gradually increased until 1 : 0.5~1 : 3, but it decreased 1 : 4, as the contents of pMDI increased. The results of the dry, wet and cyclic bond strengths the equivalent ratio was formed approximately between 1 : 2~1 : 3. And the 1 : 1~1 : 4 strengths met constantly the standard requirement of 7.0kgf/$cm^2$ (KS F3101). From the comprehensive view on the results of above experiment, it could be confirmed that ozonized WSBO/pMDI has characteristics of effective reactivity and wet stability showed as an excellent candidate of wood adhesive applications.
