  • The concrete plug in an underground cavern prevents the stored product (oil, gas, etc) from leaking and the excessive show of underground water, so it plays an important role in construction and operation of the storage cavern. Additionally, it should maintain its stability under every possible loading condition. Once the plug is constructed, the cavern is isolated from the external access. Therefore, mechanical and hydraulic consideration should be made in construction to fulfill its function. Therefore, in this study, numerical analyses were conducted to study the optimal shape and thickness of the plug with respect to the various conditions of installation depth, the shape of the plug, in-situ stress ratio (K), the condition of rock-plug interface, and the effect of Excavation Damaged Zone (EDZ). This paper also presents the effect of slot depth on the hydraulic behavior of the plug. These analyses were carried out by using the 2-dimensional finite difference code, rm FLAC, and the 3D code, m FLA $C^{3D}$./.

  • In the present study were examined numerically and experimentally the off-design performance characteristics on an axisymmetric plug nozzle with variable throat area. In this nozzle concept, its throat area can be changed by translating the plug into the axial direction. First, a mixed-expansion plug nozzle, in which two expansion parts are arranged both inside and outside, was designed by means of the method of characteristics. Second, the CFD analysis was verified by the cold-flow wind tunnel test. Third, its performance characteristics were evaluated over a wide range of pressure ratio from half to double throat area through the design point, using the CFD code verified by the wind tunnel tests. It was made clear from the study that not so critical thrust efficiency losses were found and the maximum thrust efficiency loss was at most approximately 5 % under off-design conditions without external flow. This result shows that a plug nozzle can give the altitude compensation even under off-design geometry operations. However, shock waves were observed in the inner expansion part under the doubled throat area operation and thus some thermal problems may be caused on the plug surface. Furthermore, collapse of cell structure on the plug surface was observed with external flow (around Mach number 2.0) as it became lower pressure ratio below the design point and the fact may result in big efficiency loss regardless of geometrical configuration.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the growth and rooting of cutting time, media and plug cell size in Dianthus spp and Coreopsis spp. A rooting rate was the low in lated rooting time rooting rate was the over 90% in 20th May and 20th August otherwise was the 82% and 87% in 20th September. Media of rooting was the over the 90% in all treatment media and sand media was low. Number of rooting was the best in peatmoss(1)+perlite(1) media. The size of plug cell was the 98% in 162 plug cell in Coreopsis spp. The 162-200 plug cell size was the 95.8-96% in Dianthus spp.

  • A high-impulse, low-power, digital microthruster has been developed using low-boiling-temperature liquid propellant with high-viscosity fluid plug. The viscous fiction force of the fluid plug increases the blast pressure and the low-boiling-temperature liquid propellant is intended to reduce input power consumption. The three-layer microthruster has been fabricated by surface micromachining as well as bulk micromachining in the size of 7$\times$13$\times$1.5㎣. A digital output impulse bit of 6.4$\times$10$^{-8}$ Nsec has been obtained from the fabricated microthruster using perfluoro normal hexane (FC72) propellant and oil plug, resulting in about ten times increase of the impulse bit using one hundredth electrical input energy compared to the conventional multiple-shot microthruster.

  • The aim of the present study is to provide fundamental informations for the development of magneticfluid actuator. To achieve the aim, oscillation characteristics of the magneticfluid plug are investigated by experiment for the various length and position of the magneticfluid plug and the frequency of magnetic field. The oscillation characteristics are obtained. Amplitude, natural frequency, phase shift and damping ratio, are compared with theoretical values. From the study, the following conclusive remarks can be made. The experimental equation for the magnetic field is obtained. The critical magneticfluid length exists and its value is about 70mm. The range of the damping ratio and fluid loss coefficient obtained by experiment are 0.1~0.2 and 30~100, respectively. Comparison between experimental and theoretical results of oscillation characteristics shows good agreement in the high frequency range. Meanwhile, in the low frequency range, there appears little discrepancies(5% in the frequency and amplitude and 10% in phase difference and damping ratio) with each other.

  • Vacuum-assisted thermoforming is one of the critical steps for the successful application of film insert molding(FIM) to parts of complex shapes. If the thickness distribution of the formed film is non-uniform, cracking, deformation, warping, and wrinkling can easily occur at the injection molding stage. In this study, the effects of processing parameters, which include the film heating time, plug depth, plug speed and vacuum delay time, on film thickness distribution were investigated. It was found that the film thickness at the part sidewall decreases with increasing the film heating time and plug depth, but the thickness at the bottom was found to exhibit the opposite behavior. The film thickness of the sidewall was observed to increase at higher plug speed and vacuum delay time of 0 ~ 0.3sec.

  • Simulation Based Acquisition(SBA) gains interest from the defense acquisition community. To accomplish SBA efficiently, M&S should be collaborately used in. This paper proposes PBA(PlugIn-Based Architecture) that is a common software development infrastructure and provides reuse mechanism with plugin components. PlugIns are reuse entity possible to plug-in-play statically and dynamically. This architecture supports stand alone simulation and HLA-compliant distributed simulation also.

  • When mounting the sensor device in the way of Plug&Play, sensor device drivers need to be loaded and linked dynamically. Since a sensor node platform is based on small 8 bit MCU, dynamic loading and linking technique used in Windows and Linux can not be applied. In this paper, we present how to link and load dynamically sensor device drivers for sensor device Plug&Play. We implement a prototype and evaluate it to make sure that there is no performance degradation like sensor device driver connection speed and memory usage. Connection speed overhead increases to 0.2ms. Memory usage overhead increases to hundreds byte. It shows that there is no heavy influence in running the actual program.
