Number Plate Detection Using Topology of Characters and Outer Contour (문자간 위상관계와 외각에지를 이용한 차량번호판 추출기법)

  • Since the characters are not clear always due to lighting conditions, sometimes only a part of the characters are detected and the boundary of the number plate is not completely shown. To solve this problem, this paper presents a new efficient algorithm for segmenting the number plate using the topological relationship among the characters in the number plate and its outer contour. The boundary of the number plate is estimated using the detected characters and detected by testing the connectivity of the vertical and horizontal edges. The superior performance of the proposed algorithm has been proved by the experiments.

A Numerical Study of Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer due to Slot-jet impinging on a Moving flat plate (이동평판에 작용하는 슬롯 충돌제트의 유동 및 열전달에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • The confined slot air jet impinging normally on a moving flat surface has been investigated numerically by using commercial CFD code Ansys CFX-V11. Turbulent flows are modeled using k-w turbulence model. Two-dimensional turbulent flow is considered. Calculations were conducted for a nozzle-to-plate spacing of eight slot nozzle width, at three Reynolds number(Re=4500, 6700 and 10,000) and four surface-to-velocity ratios i.e. 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 1. Results are compared against corresponding cases for heat transfer from a stationary plate. Local Nusselt number is calculated under constant wall temperature condition. The analysis reveals that the average Nusselt number increases considerably with the jet exit Reynolds number, but decrease with the plate velocity.

Number Region Extraction of License Plates Using Colors and Arrangement of Numbers (색상과 배치 정보를 이용한 번호판 숫자 영역 추출)

  • This paper proposes a plate number extraction method which uses the information of both the colors and the arrangement of numbers in a vehicle image with complex background. In a number plate, color of the numbers is usually black or white, and numbers are arranged in a row. At first, a raw image is partitioned into the plate number candidate regions and non-interest region. The number candidate regions are thresholded in mean binarization. After eliminating the illegal candidate regions using the aspect ratio of the plate number, the plate number region is finally extracted by using the arrangement information among the numbers. To evaluate the proposed mothed, 292 images are taken in various places and at different times. The experimental results show that the rate of the proposed number regions extraction is about 89.8%, 95.5% for the plate of green and white backgrounds, respectively.

  • An image processing algorithm is developed in order to recognize the type of cars, the position of a number plate and the characters on the plate. to recognize the type of cars, comparison of two images is used. One has a car image, the other is just a background image without car. After that recognition, a vertical line filter is used to find the location of the plate. Finally the simularity mehod is used to recognize the numbers on plates.

An Effective Method of Product Number Detection from Thick Plates (효과적인 후판의 제품번호 검출 방법)

  • In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for detecting the product number of each thick plate and extracting each character of the product number from a image which contains several thick plates. In general, a image of thick plates contains several steal plates. To obtain the product number from the image, we first need to separate each plate. To do so, we use the line edges of thick plates and a clustering algorithm. After separating each plate, background parts are eliminated from the image of each plate. Background parts of an individual thick plate image consist of the dark part of steel and the white part of paint which is used for printing the product number. We propose a two-tiered method where dark background parts are first eliminated and then white parts are eliminated. Finally, each character is extracted from the product number image using the characteristics of product number. The results of the experiments on the various steal plates images emphasize that the proposed algorithm detects each thick plate and extracts the product number from a image effectively.

  • In this paper, we develop the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) System. ANPR is generally composed of the following four steps: i) The acquisition of the image; ii) The extraction of the region of the number plate; iii) The partition of the number and iv) The recognition. The second and third steps incorporate image processing technique. We propose to resolve this by using Partial Differential Equation(PDE) based segmentation method. This method is computationally efficient and robust. Results indicate that our methods are capable to recognize the plate number on difficult situations.

CFD Analysis for the Flow Phenomena of the Narrow Channels in Plate Heat Exchanger for Intercooler (인터쿨러용 판형열교환기 내부유로의 유동현상에 관한 전산유체해석)

  • Plate heat exchangers (PHE) have been widely used in different industrial applications, because of high heat transfer efficiency per unit volume. Basic study is performed for PHE to the application of intercooler in automobile. In order to understand the flow phenomena in the plate heat exchanger, a channel which was formed by the upper and lower plate in single plate was considered as calculation domains. Because chevrons attached on the upper plate are brazed with chevrons attached on the lower plate, the flow channel has very complex configuration. This complex geometry was analyzed by Fluent. In order to validate this methodology the proper experimental and theoretical data are collected and compared with numerical results. Finally, due to the lack of experimental values for PHE to the application of intercooler, various chevron angles and air velocities at inlet were tested in terms of physical phenomena. From this point of view, results of velocity vector, path lines, static pressure, heat flux, heat transfer coefficient, and Nusselt number are physically reasonable and accepted for the solutions. From these results, the correlations for pressure drop and Nusselt number with respect to chevron angle and Reynolds number in specific PHE are obtained for the design purpose. Thus, the methodology of the flow analysis in the full geometry of the channel was established for the predictions of performance in plate heat exchanger.

Multi-National Integrated Car-License Plate Recognition System Using Geometrical Feature and Hybrid Pattern Vector

  • In this paper, we have proposed license plate recognition system for multi-national vehicle license plate using geometric features along with hybrid and seven segment pattern vectors. In the proposed system, we suggested to find horizontal and vertical relation after going through preparation process with inputted real-time license plate image of Korea and Japan, and then to classify license plate with using characteristic and geometric information of license plates. It classifies the extracted license plate images into letters and numbers, such as local name, local number, classification character and license consecutive numbers, and recognize license plate of Korea and Japan by applying hybrid and seven segments pattern vectors to classified letter and number region. License plate extraction step of the proposed system uses width and length information along with relative rate of Korean and Japanese license plate. Moreover, it exactly segmentation by letters with using each letter and number position information within license plate region, and recognizes Korean and Japanese license plates by applying hybrid and seven segment pattern vectors, containing characteristics related to letter size and movement within segmented letter area. As the result of testing the proposed system in real experiment, it recognized regardless of external lighting conditions as well as classifying license plates by nations, Korea and Japan. We have developed a system, recognizing regardless of inputted structural character of vehicle licenses and external environment.

The Optimum Modification of Dynamic Characteristics of Stiffened Plate Structure Including the Number of Stiffener (보강재의 수를 포함한 보강판 구조물의 동특성의 최적변경)

  • The purpose of this paper is the optimum modification of dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener. This paper shows the optimum structural modification method by dynamic sensitivity analysis and quasi-least squares method and considers it's validity. In the method of the optimization, finite element method, sensitivity analysis and optimum structural modification method are used. The change of natural frequency and total weight are made to be an objective function. Thickness of plate, the number of stiffener and cross section moment of stiffener become a design variable. The dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure is analyzed using finite element method. Next, rate of change of dynamic characteristics by the change of design variable is calculated using the sensitivity analysis. Then, amount of change of design variable is calculated using optimum structural modification method. It is shown that the results are effective in the optimum modification for dynamic characteristics of the stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener.

Numerical Study on the Flow Characteristics of Flat-Plate Solar Collector with Riser Number (평판형 집열기의 지관수에 따른 유동특성에 대한 수치해석 연구)

  • It is essential to know the flow characteristics at the risers of Flat-plate solar collector for optimum design. For flat-plate solar collector, it is difficult to experimentally study the effect for the number of riser in the collector for the economic problem. So, this study was performed to show the flow characteristics of flat-plate solar collector with the number of riser using commercial code FLUENT 6.0. The base collector size is chosen with $2\;m^2$ as 1m by 2m in this study, the mass flow rate was estimated 0.04 kg/s using the mass flow rate of 0.02 kg/s per collector area for the certificate test. The number of riser is selected 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14. Through the simulation, the conditions with the risers of 10 or 12 is shown as the optimum design conditions for conventional flat-plate solar collector considering lower pressure drop and more uniformly distributed mass flow rate for higher heat transfer rate without considering heat transfer.
