딤플형 판형 열교환기의 유동 및 전열특성에 대한 수치해석 (A Numerical Simulation of Flow and Heat Transfer in a Dimple-type Plate Heat Exchanger)

  • In the present study, the characteristics on the internal flow and heat transfer of the dimple-type plate heat exchanger were numerically investigated. For the numerical analysis, the conjugate heat transfer analysis between hot fluid-separating plate-cold fluid was performed using the periodic boundary condition at the center area of the plate and appropriate inlet and outlet conditions for the two streams. The numerical results were validated by the comparison with the experimental data. From these results, the correlations of the Colburn j-factor for the heat transfer and the Fanning f-factor for the flow friction were obtained. The present results could be applicable for the optimal design of dimple-type plate heat exchanger.

  • Design and off-design program is set up to analyze the performance of a plate heat exchanger. The program is verified by comparing the results with the experiment. The comparison shows that the predicted overall heat transfer coefficients are in good agreement with the measurements. Also the off-design performance according to the variations of inlet water temperature, flow rate, and the number of plates is analyzed to study the performance characteristic of a plate heat exchanger.

  • The experimental study has been conducted on heat transfer characteristics of the plate heat exchangers(PHE) by several researchers. However most of all were focused on a gasket-type plate heat exchanger. Therefore further studies are need for a brazed-type. In the present study, a brazed type plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle of $70^{\circ},\;55^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ with R-22 and R-410A. Condensation temperatures were $24.5^{\circ}C$, and mass flux was ranged from 35 to $60kg/m^2s$. The inlet and exit conditions are in a superheated vapor and subcooled liquid, respectively. The heat transfer coefficient increased with the chevron angle. The heat transfer coefficient of R-22 was lamer than that of R-410A for all chevron angles.

이상유동 해석을 통한 브레이징 판형 응축기 설계 연구 (Design Study of a Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger Condenser Through Two-Phase Flow Analysis)

  • This study was aimed at designing a condenser, as a component of the organic Rankine cycle system for ships. The condenser was manufactured through press molding to achieve a bent shape to enhance the heat transfer performance, considering the shape of the heat transfer plate used in a brazing plate heat exchanger. The heat transfer plate was made of copper-nickel alloy. The required heat transfer rate for the condenser was 110 kW, and the maximum number of layers was set as 25, considering the characteristics of high-temperature brazing. Computational fluid dynamics techniques were used to perform the thermal fluid analysis, based on the ANSYS CFX (v.18.1) commercial program. The heat transfer rate of the condenser was 4.96 kW for one layer (width and length of 0.224 and 0.7 m, respectively) of the heat transfer exchanger. The fin efficiency pertaining to the heat transfer plate was approximately 20%. The heat flow analysis for one layer of the heat exchanger plate indicated that the condenser with 25 layers of heat transfer plates could achieve a heat transfer rate of 110 kW.

Particles are introduced to the main hot gas stream alongside the pipe circumference. The heat exchanger performance and pressure drop are evaluated through experiments for the present gas-to-water heat exchanger system.

오블롱 셀 플레이트 열교환기에서의 R-l34a, R-407C, R-410A의 증발 열전달에 관한 실험적 연구 (Study on Evaporation Heat Transfer of R-l34a, R-407C, and R-410A in the Oblong Shell and Plate Heat Exchanger)

  • The evaporation heat transfer coefficient for R-l34a, R-407C (a mixture of 23wt% R-32, 25 wt% R-125, and 52 wt% R-l34a) and R-410A (a mixture of 50 wt% R-32 and 50 wt% R-125) flowing in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger were investigated experimentally in this study. Four vertical counterflow channels were formed in the exchanger by four plates of commercial geometry with a corrugated sinusoid shape of a chevron angle of 45 degree. The effects of the mean vapor quality, mass flux, heat flux, and saturation temperature of different refrigerants on the evaporation heat transfer were explored in detail. Similar to the case of a Plate heat exchanger, even at a very low Reynolds number, the flow in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger remains turbulent. It is found that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient in the plates is much higher than that in circular pipes. The present data show that the evaporation heat transfer coefficients of all refrigerants increase with the vapor quality. At a higher mass flux h, is higher than for the entire range of the vapor quality. Raising the imposed wall heat flux was found to slightly improve h$_{r}$, while h$_{r}$ is found to be lower at a higher refrigerant saturation temperature. A comparison of the performance of the various refrigerants reveals that R-410A has the highest heat transfer performance followed by R-l34a, and R-407C had the lowest performance of the refrigerants tested. Based on the present data, empirical correlations of the evaporation heat transfer coefficient were proposed.sed.

고분자 첨가제에 의한 OTEC용 판형 열교환기의 마찰저항감소 효과 연구 (Effect of Polymer Additives on Drag Reduction for a Plate Type Heat Exchanger in OTEC Applications)

  • Experimental investigation has been carried out to determine drag reducing effects of polymer additives for a plate type heat exchanger(evaporator or condenser) in OTEC power plant applications, where the pressure drop in the heat exchangers takes up $70{\sim}80%$ of the total pumping power in the existing system. The rate of drag reduction was investigated with various polymer concentrations and mass flow rates. Experiments were undertaken for a test section in Alfa-Laval plate heat exchanger utilizing Poly Ethylene Oxide(Mw $5{\times}10^6$) as polymer additives. Concentrations of polymer additives were 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100, 200, 400 wppm at $25^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rates were 0.6kg/s, 0.7kg/s, 0.8kg/s and 0.9kg/s in normal operating ranges for a 15kW Alfa-Laval plate heat exchanger. The maximum effects of drag reductions were found at approximately 0.7kg/s of mass flow rate. The results show that there exists the optimum mass flow rate for the plate heat exchanger to obtain maximum drag reductions. Drag reduction of 20% means considerable savings in pumping power for a large size of OTEC plant.

동일 전열면적을 갖는 용접식 판형열교환기와 관류형 열교환기의 성능 비교 (Performance Comparison of a Welded Plate Heat Exchanger and Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Same Heat Transfer Area)

  • In this study, the performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger (STHE) and welded plate heat exchanger (WPHE) was measured experimentally. The pass numbers of the STHE was changed by 1, 2 and 4. As a result, the WPHE showed 2.1 times higher heat exchange capacity than that of the STHE. In case of pressure drop, the STHE with 1 and 2 pass number has a lower pressure drop than the WPHE, while the STHE with 4 pass presented higher pressure drop than the WPHE. The performance index considering the heat exchange capacity and pump consumption power, showed in oder of STHEPass1 > STHEPass2 > W PHE > STHEPass4 under the same flow rate. Therefore, when the WPHE was designed optimally under same operating condition with STHE, the maintenance fee and space can be reduced effectively by using the WPHE.

버블을 이용한 플레이트 열교환기의 파울링 저감특성 (Characteristics of Decrease Effect in Fouling on Plate Heat Exchanger Using Air Bubble)

  • Generally, it is a method to remove the fouling cleaning the plate heat exchanger with chemicals or polishing with a brush or cloth after stopping the equipment and disassembling heat exchanger. However, the equipment must be stopped and taken apart when using this method, which causes an unnecessary work to assemble again after cleaning it. In this study, it has developed and tested the equipment which can automatically clean the fouling on plate heat exchanger at regular intervals with air bubbles. It indicated that the overall heat transfer coefficient had decreased without significant differences similar to that calculated without air bubbles until after 72 hours when making air bubbles to remove fouling ingredient on the surface of heat transfer area every 10 minutes per 2 hours. However, it showed that there was a 10% higher of heat transfer effect compared to the case without air bubbles of after 192 hours.
