Environmentally Friendly Usage of Post-consumed Plastic

  • The huge amounts of wastes were produced nowadays. Among the solid waste stream, the waste plastic portion is about 20 % in weight, over 50 % in volume. But the most of waste plastics were incinerated or land filled. Only a bit of waste plastics were recycled and reused. On the view point of current energy crisis, this will be an extravagance of beneficial resource. So we should consider the waste plastics as a beneficial raw material. Also need to develop the field of reusing and recycling of post-consumed plastic. In this context, present paper describes the methodology for enhancing or improving the specific properties by way of using inorganic filler waste. Also develop the product from these post-consumed plastic.

  • Conventional foaming process has defects such as lower mechanical properties than ur~foaming material due to non-uniform cell distribution and environmental pollution problem caused by chemical blowing agency. So, a new foaming process such as Microcelluar plastics has been introduced to use inactive gases as a foaming agency. In order to apply Microcellular plastics for mass production process system such as extrusion, injection molding and blow molding, it needs to predict the change in material properties of polymer according to the amount of meltingas. In Polymer molding applying Microcelluar plastics, the change of viscosity among several material properties is the most important factor. Therefore, this paper is aimed to establish the method which not only finds out but also predicts the change of viscosity of ABS(Acrylonitri1e Butadiene Styrene) resin according to inert gas amount in extrusion molding.

The Chicken Aorta as a Simulation-Training Model for Microvascular Surgery Training

  • As a technically demanding skill, microsurgery is taught in the lab, in the form of a course of variable length (depending on the centre). Microsurgical training courses usually use a mixture of non-living and live animal simulation models. In the literature, a plethora of microsurgical training models have been described, ranging from low to high fidelity models. Given the high costs associated with live animal models, cheaper alternatives are coming into vogue. In this paper we describe the use of the chicken aorta as a simple and cost effective low fidelity microsurgical simulation model for training.

  • The refuse-derived fuel(RDF) is manufactured using waste plastics-based materials and its physical and chemical properties are analyzed. The manufacturing process consists of hand picking, primary magnetic separation, crushing, secondary magnetic separation, feeding and extrusion. The RDF products have a higher calorie content of over 6, 000 ㎉/kg and high stability because the waste plastics and paper are mainly selected. The combustion flue gas of RDF products is satisfied with the emission criteria of incinerator. The heavy metal concentration of combustion byproduct from the RDF boiler is also satisfied with the criteria and appears to be lower concentration than that of a common municipal waste incinerator.

  • This study analyzes the Western rocking chair style of the middle of the 20th century (1945~1970), and investigates academically characteristics from formative and practical points of view. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information on the design and production of the modern Korean rocking chair. In the 20th century, the production of the Western rocking chair displayed principles of both functionalism and optimism. These rocking chairs are constructed of various industrial materials including reinforced plastics, moulded plywood, aluminium, and steel as well as wood. Furthermore, a rocking chair suitable to the human body is made by industrial growth and innovative fabrication techniques such as designer's plastic from military in the First and Second World Wars. In those days, there are many different types of rocker style - traditional, plastics, structural, moulded plywood & bending, metal tubular, and wire mesh. More specifically, through economic prosperity and plastic development, the rocking chair is able to have light and bright colors, which shows sensible formality of the modern and structure.

  • In a foaming process of microcellular plastics (MCPs) with a injection molding, research on the viscosity change that occurs when the gas is injected to the polymer has received little attention despite its importance. The purpose of this paper is to provide the basic data required to determine the processing condition by measuring viscosity changes against the gas injection rates of the blowing agent, and to verify the influence of the viscosity change on the flow condition of polymer inside the mold at the injection process.

  • Thermo-plastic has generally bad electrical characteristics at high temperature comparing to thermoset-plastics when the plastic apply to electrical power apparatus as an electrical insulator. To solve the problem, we study engineering plastics such as Polyamide and Polyphthalamide as a base resin. And filler of the engineering plastics is glass fiber. Electrical characteristics studied are permittivity, loss factor and breakdown strength according to temperature and frequency of measuring signal. Electrical characteristics of Polyphthalamide has good temperature and frequency dependency comparing to those of Polyamide.

  • Micro Cellular Plastics create a sensation at polymer industrial for lowering product cost & overcoming a lowering of mechanical intensity. This research based on the experiment of sound absorption & transmission characteristics inquire into acoustical properties of Micro Cellular Plastics in low frequency range. TL difference of MCPs & Soild materials was defined as cell effect. Also, cell effect is expressed by sound reflection & sound absorption.

  • In the use of glass fiber reinforced plastics it is often necessary to cutting the components, but the cutting GFRP is often made difficult by the delamination of composites and the short tool life. In this paper, the machinability of GFRP by mean of tool materials and type was experimentally investigated. By proper selection of cutting tool material and type excellent machining of this workpiece is achieved. The surface quality relate closely with the feed rate and cutting tools.

미국의 폐플라스틱 재활용 현황 (Recycling of Post-consumer Plastic Wastes in the USA)

  • 미국에서의 플라스틱 생산은 93년 현재 317억톤으로 연평균 10%의 증가율을 나타내고 있으며 종류별 사용량은 PET>HDPE.LDPE>PVC>PS>PP의 순서이다. 93년 현재 미국의 도시폐기물 중 폐플라스틱은 약 2,650만톤으로 전체 폐기물 중 8.3wt.% 이며 이중 재활용되는 양은 3.5%인 92만톤에 불과하다. 폐플라스틱의 재활용은 폐플라스틱을 재생하는 방법, 고형화, 액화 및 가스화에 의한 연료화방법, 연소에 의한 에너지 회수 방법으로 나눌 수 있으며 폐플라스틱에 대한 관심의 증가로 92년에는 플라스틱 음료수병의 41%가 재활용되고 있다. 그러나 플라스틱의 재활용시 가장 큰 문제로 수집, 분류 및 정제를 들 수 있는데 혼합 플라스틱의 분리기술이 현실화되지 못해서 현재의 재활용 기술은 비교적 균질한 성분을 대상으로 하고 있으며 공기분류, 하이드로싸이클론, 부상/침전, 탈중합/정제/재중합, 분리용해, 적외선 분석 및 폴리머의 레이저 주사에 의한 분리 등이 연구되고 있다.
