  • As extreme weather events such as heavy snowfall and typhoon become more frequent, climate change significantly impacts across various worldwide industries. With demands for dealing with this phenomenon, continuous achievements in safety diagnosis have been announced for large structures. Conversely, in agricultural infrastructures having lower risk to human life, there is lack of established safety diagnosis methods. However, considering expansion of high-value smart farm, the importance of plastic greenhouse cannot be overlooked. Therefore, this study aimed to develop on-site diagnosis technique for structural safety of steel structure greenhouse. To build an analysis model, we generated point cloud data of on-site greenhouse using a camera with LiDAR sensor. Subsequently, we extracted points corresponding to pipes using a pre-trained semantic segmentation model, achieving a pipe segmentation accuracy of 78.1%. These points were then converted into 3D frame model, with a location coordinate error of 5.4 cm for nine reference points, as measured by an on-site survey. In FEM structural analysis, nonlinearity of pipe connection was reflected. The loads were determined based on expected wind speed and snow depth in Korea. The structural safety of on-site model was diagnosed more vulnerable with 10.3% higher maximum axial stress, compared with standard model. Through this research, we expect the quantitative safety diagnosis of predicting greenhouse collapse risk. In addition, this technique will enable localized reinforcement strategies within the structure.

  • In this work, the effects of shade combination, shade height and wind regime on greenhouse climate were quantified. A two-dimensional (2-D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed based on an 11-span plastic greenhouse in eastern China for wind almost normal to the greenhouse orientation. The model was first validated with air temperature profiles measured in a compartmentalized greenhouse cultivated with mature lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., 'Yang Shan'). Next, the model was employed to investigate the effect of shade combinations on greenhouse microclimate patterns. Simulations showed similar airflow patterns in the greenhouse under different shade combinations. The temperature pattern was a consequence of convection and radiation transfer and was not significantly influenced by shade combination. The use of shade screens reduced air velocity by $0.02-0.20m{\cdot}s^{-1}$, lowered air temperature by $0.2-0.8^{\circ}C$ and raised the humidity level by 0.9-2.0% in the greenhouse. Moreover, it improved the interior climate homogeneity. The assessment of shade performance revealed that the external shade had good cooling and homogeneity performance and thus can be recommended. Furthermore, the effects of external shade height and wind regime on greenhouse climate parameters showed that external shade screens are suitable for installation within 1 m above roof level. They also demonstrated that, under external shade conditions, greenhouse temperature was reduced relative to unshaded conditions by $1.3^{\circ}C$ under a wind speed of $0.5m{\cdot}s^{-1}$, whereas it was reduced by merely $0.5^{\circ}C$ under a wind speed of $2.0m{\cdot}s^{-1}$. Therefore, external shading is more useful during periods of low wind speed.

  • The Plasma film treated with a high electric voltage was developed to enhance flow down of condensation drops on inside plastic film. Arch type greenhouse framed with iron pipe of 25mm diameter defand 1.5mm thickness were covered with either the developed plasma film or surfactant film(control). Green pepper seedlings raised for 40 days in plug trays were transplanted at a density of 110cm by 30cm in each greenhouse. The mount of condensational water on film surface, generated by 7$0^{\circ}C$ water bath chimney systems and flew down, was collected and measured. The amount of collected water after 150 minutes was 2.56 mL.100c $m^{-2}$ and 0.94mL.100c $m^{-2}$ , respectively, in the plasma film and surfactant film-covered greenhouses. The amount of condensational water drops attached on the cover at 08:20 a.m. at 60 days filter covering was 0.34mL.100c $m^{02}$ and 0.32mL.100c $m^{-2}$ , respectively, in the plasma film- and surfactant film-covered greenhouses. Solar irradiance transmitted into greenhouse was 2.0% higher in the greenhouse covered with the plasma film tan that in the greenhouse covered with the surfactant film. Air temperature in the plasma film-covered greenhouse was higher than the surfactant film-covered greenhouse by 0.5$^{\circ}C$. However, there was no difference in relative humidity between the two greenhouse. Plant height, leaf area, dry weight and early yield showed no significant differences.s.

  • The main objective of this study was to find the relationship between transpiration rate and environmental factors for crops in hydroponic culture within plastic greenhouse by using the computer model developed from the heat balance around leaves of a crop. A computer model was developed and verified through comparison with the experimental results for lettuce in hydroponic culture in a polyethylene film house. The model may be extensively used for the water management and thermal environment study of crops in protected culture, if the supplemented studies for some crops would be accomplished.

  • In this study, the loading test and structural analysis were performed on the snow load and the results were compared. The load plates were loaded on the roof surface of the model, and structural analysis was performed under the same conditions. The result of loading test, the maximum displacement was observed in the center of the top, and the maximum stress was observed near the bottom point. Displacement and stress were found to have a high linear relationship with the load. Comparing the structural analysis results with the loading test results, the maximum displacement difference is 4.5% and the maximum stress difference is 10.2%. It is expected that closer results can be derived if the boundary conditions for the longitudinal direction of the model are clarified during experiments and analysis.

  • This study was carried out to provide fundamental data for reuse of resources and prevention of environmental pollution Actual states of environmental pollution by biological production facilities were investigated. Various pollution loads and quantity of wastes from greenhouse and animal housings estimated. In greenhouse contents of investigation were wastes of plastic cover, noise of heater and fan, air pollutant of heater, and wastes of soilless culture system, etc. In animal housings, those were actual state of livestock waste treatment and reuse, pollutant mass unit discharge, noise pollution, and malodorant, etc. The main pollutants discharged from greenhouses were wastes of plastic cover, rockwool, and waste fluid of nutrient solution. Developments of waste disposal methods for plastic cover and rockwool are required. And recycle technique of nutrient solution for soilless culture should be developed and propagated. With the buildup of legal control, pollutant mass discharged from livestock wastes are, on the decrease. The other side, reuse of livestock excreta increased. Most animal housings are located near the dwelling house. Malodorant and noise from animal housings have bad effects on the rural living conditions. So developments of integrated complex for small scale livestock farms are required.
