In the last decades, valuable results have been reported regarding conventional passive, active, semi-active, and hybrid structural control systems on two-dimensional and a few three-dimensional shear buildings. In this research, using a three-dimensional finite element model of high-rise concrete structures, designed by performance based plastic design method, it was attempted to construct a relatively close to reality model of concrete structures equipped with Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) by considering the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI), torsion effect, hysteresis behavior and cracking effect of concrete. In contrast to previous studies which have focused mainly on linearly designed structures, in this study, using performance-based plastic design (PBPD) design approach, nonlinear behavior of the structures was considered from the beginning of the design stage. Inelastic time history analysis on a detailed model of twenty-story concrete structure was performed under a far-field ground motion record set. The seismic responses of the structure by considering SSI effect are studied by eight main objective functions that are related to the performance of the structure, containing: lateral displacement, acceleration, inter-story drift, plastic energy dissipation, shear force, number of plastic hinges, local plastic energy and rotation of plastic hinges. The tuning problem of TMD based on tuned mass spectra is set by considering five of the eight previously described functions. Results reveal that the structural damage distribution range is retracted and inter-story drift distribution in height of the structure is more uniform. It is strongly suggested to consider the effect of SSI in structural design and analysis.

In this paper, an analytical method which can predict the occurrence of plastic shrinkage cracking on concrete slabs with sequential placement is proposed on the basis of the numerical model introduced in the previous study. The influence of many design variables on plastic shrinkage cracking such as the number of layers and the time interval between layers is quantitatively analyzed through parametric studies using the analytical method. In advance, two equations are introduced to take into account the effect of sequential placement on the plastic shrinkage cracking of concrete slab; The first one is to calculate the time at which the surface of concrete slab begins to dry, and the second one is to determine the critical time interval to prevent the surface drying of previously placed concrete layers. The timing of curing and the sequence of concrete placement, which are important for the prevention of plastic shrinkage cracking, can be effectively planned using the introduced both equations without any rigorous analysis.

Kenya has recently experienced worrying collapse of buildings during construction largely attributable to the poor quality of in-situ concrete and poor workmanship. The situation in the country is further compounded by rapid deterioration of infrastructure, hence necessitating the development of alternative structural systems such as concrete filled unplasticized poly vinyl chloride (UPVC) tubes as columns. The work herein adds on to the very limited and scanty work on use of UPVC tubes in construction. This study presents the findings of experimental and analytical work which investigated the structural response of composite concrete filled UPVC tubes under compressive load regime. UPVC pipes are cheaper than steel tubes and can be used as formwork during construction and thereafter as an integral part of column. Key variables in this study included the strength of infill concrete, the length to diameter ratio (L/D) of the plastic tube, as well as the diameter to thickness ratio (D/2t) of the plastic tube. Plastic tubes having varying diameters and heights were used to confine concrete of different strengths. Results obtained in the study clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of UPVC tubes as a confining medium for infill concrete, attributable to enhanced composite interaction between the UPVC tube and infill concrete medium. It was determined that compressive strength of the composite column specimens increased with increased concrete strength while the same decreased with increased column height, albeit by a small margin since all the columns considered were short columns. Most importantly, the experimental confined concrete strength increased significantly when compared to unconfined concrete strength; the strength increased between 1.18 to 3.65 times the unconfined strength. It was noted that lower strength infill concrete had the highest confined strength possibly due to enhanced composite interaction with the confining UPVC tube. The study further proposes an analytical model for the determination of confined strength of concrete.

To analysis machanical behavior for RC frame under monotonic & Cyclic load, it is needed to investigate elasto-plastic behavior for steel & concrete. Therefore, in this study, we idealized material model(steel and concrete) to take into account elasto-plastic, limit state, and developed structural analysis program that consider complex non-linearity. We investigated simple beam and portal frame under cyclic & monotonic loading, so we confirmed the propriety.

In this paper, the influence of many factors related to the concrete mixture and the weather condition on plastic shrinkage cracking are analyzed through parametric studies using the numerical models introduced in the companion paper. First of all, through a systematic calculation of bleeding, the relationship between the bleeding constants and concrete mixture is proposed on the basis of the experimental data obtained by many researchers. Moreover, an equation, which can directly determine a critical point at which the evaporation and bleeding is balanced, is introduced, and the efficiency of the introduced equation is verified through the correlation study between the obtained results by the introduced equation and those by the rigorous analyses. The introduced equation can effectively be used to predict and to prevent plastic shrinkage cracking without any rigorous analysis and, in advance, to cope with the sudden changes in the concrete mixture and/or weather condition.
The response mechanism of simply supported two-way reinforced concrete (RC) slabs under fire was numerically studied from the view of stress redistribution using the finite element software ABAQUS. Results show that: (1) Simply supported two-way RC slabs undergo intense stress redistribution, and their responses show four stages, namely elastic, elastic-plastic, plastic and tensile membrane stages. There is no cracking in the fire area of the slabs until the tensile membrane stage. (2) The inverted arch effect and tensile membrane effect improve the fire resistance of the two-way slabs. When the deflection is L/20, the slab is in an inverted arch effect state, and the slab still has a good deflection reserve. The deformation rate of the slab in the tensile membrane stage is smaller than that in the elastic-plastic and plastic stages. (3) Fire resistance of square slabs is better than that of rectangular slabs. Besides, increasing the reinforcement ratio or slab thickness improves the fire resistance of the slabs. However, an increase of cover thickness has little effect on the fire resistance of two-way slabs. (4) Compared with one-way slabs, the time for two-way slabs to enter the plastic and tensile cracking stage is postponed, and the deformation rate in the plastic and tensile cracking stage is also slowed down. (5) The simply supported two-way RC slabs can satisfy with the requirements of a class I fire resistance rating of 90 min without additional fire protection.

In this study, fundamental properties of concrete mixed with fiber has been analysed. Compressive strength, tensile strength and plastic shrinkage has been tested to conduct the optimum addition ratio of fiber. Effect to control press concrete's cracking has been tested. The following results could be made as the conclusion. For the flowability, slump decreased about 41-79% when all types of fiber used in the concrete. When the addition ratio of fiber is 1.2%, the slump of concrete decreased about 45%. For the strength properties. all the specimens with different addition ratio of fiber shown higher compressive strength comparing with Plain. Comparing with Plain, cracking decreased when the fiber added. Especially, when NY fiber used in the concrete, the plastic shrinkage did not occurred. In addition, Latex modified concrete(LMC) has improved superior physical and chemical properties. The properties of latex, combined with the low water-cement ratio, produce a concrete that has improved flexural, tensile, and bond strength, lower modulus of elasticity, increased freeze-thaw resistance, and reduced permeability compared to conventional concrete of similar mix design.
Vibration-controlled concrete has been developed by using various concrete mixtures, such as latex, rubber powders, plastic resins and polystyrene(styrofoam). As part of the recycling research of obsolete aged tires and plastic materials, various vibration-reducing mixtures are used for 10 concrete panels having above 200 kg/cm$^2$ in uniaxial compressive strength. Plywood box with sand uniformly saturated by the raining device has been used for the analysis of the impact wave, of which data have been transfered by the FFT technique to comparatively investigate damping ratios of 10 concrete panels.According to wave propagation analysis on vibration-controlled concrete for this research, it can be concluded that Latex concrete has relatively larger damping ratios than those for noncontrolled normal concrete in a similar compressive strength
In this study, structural behavior of plastic greenhouse foundation was investigated using rational finite element modeling for structures which have different material properties each other. Because the concrete foundation of plastic greenhouse and soil which surround and support the concrete foundation have very different material property, the boundary between two structures were modeled by a interface element. The interface element was able to represent sliding, separation, uplift and re-bonding of the boundary between concrete foundation and soil. The results of static and dynamic analysis showed that horizontal and vertical displacement of concrete foundation displayed a decreasing tendency with increasing depth of foundation. The second frequency from modal analysis of structure including foundation and soil was estimate to closely related with wind load.

In this paper an experimental approach of the relocation plastic hinging zones of nine reinforced concrete exterior beam-column subassemblages under cyclic loads was tried. The main parameters of the testing program were location of the plastic hinge, difference of the special reinforcement, inclined or intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement, applied maximum shear stress. The conclusions presented herein are based on the limited texts conducted. Inclined or intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement and extra top and bottom steel in the beam over a specific legnth can be used to move the beam plastic hinging zone away from the column face. But, for the use of intermediate layers of longitudinal reinforcement, sheat reinforcement detail need further investigation.
