  • Microstrip line on dielectric substrate depending on the type of its configuration can be applied to be antenna, communication filters, and resonators. When driving frequency is considered more than X-band, unnecessary signal leakage should be occurred because of flowing through the planar circuit at banding position. So leakage signal will affect other planar circuit, and then EMC problem has to be introduced. In this paper, the affection of banding planar circuit on dielectric substrate was investigated.

  • Microstrip antennas are low profile, are conformable to planar and nonplanar surfaces, are simple and inexpensive to manufacture, mechanically robust when mounted on rigid surfaces and are compatible with MMIC(Monolithic microwave integrated circuit) designs; they have been used in diverse communication systems. The rectangular microstrip patch antenna is designed for a central frequency of 12.5 GHz, and the final product is a $4{\times}1$ array antenna with curvature radius of 200 mm. The microstrip antenna is embedded in a sandwich structure which consists of skin and core material. After impact, the performance of damaged antenna is estimated by measuring the return loss and radiation pattern. The antenna performance was not affected by this impact damage.

  • In this paper, a novel split ring resonator is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8GHz band is designed using proposed split ring resonator. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.22dBm output power and -83.5 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with split ring resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.7dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}$/4 microstrip resonator. Because it is possible that varactor diode or lumped capacitor is placed on the gaps of split ring resonator, resonant frequency can be controlled by bias voltage. We can design voltage controlled oscillator using proposed split ring resonator. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

  • In this paper, a novel resonator using ring type DGS is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8GHz band is designed using proposed DGS resonator. The ring type DGS resonator is composed of DGS cell etched on ground plane under $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.6dBm output power and -82.7 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with ring type DGS resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.5dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}/4$ microstrip resonator. Because it is possible that varactor diode or lumped capacitor is placed on the gaps of ring type DGS, resonant frequency can be controlled by bias voltage. We can design voltage controlled oscillator using proposed ring type DGS resonator. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

Next, we designed voltage controlled oscillator using proposed split ring resonator with varactor diode. The VCO has 125MHz tuning range from 5.833GHz to 5.845GHz, and phase noise characteristic is -118~-115.5 dBc/Hz@100KHz. • This paper describes the development of a circularly polarized microstrip antenna, as a part of the Circularly Polarized Synthetic Aperture Radar (CP-SAR) sensor which is currently under developed at the Microwave Remote Sensing Laboratory (MRSL) in Chiba University. CP-SAR is a new type of sensor developed for the purpose of remote sensing. With this sensor, lower-noise data/image will be obtained due to the absence of depolarization problems from propagation encounter in linearly polarized synthetic aperture radar. As well the data/images obtained will be investigated as the Axial Ratio Image (ARI), which is a new data that hopefully will reveal unique various backscattering characteristics. The sensor will be mounted on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which will be aimed for fundamental research and applications. The microstrip antenna works in the frequency of 1.27 GHz (L-Band). The microstrip antenna utilized the proximity-coupled method of feeding. Initially, the optimization process of the single patch antenna design involving modifying the microstrip line feed to yield a high gain (above 5 dBi) and low return loss (below -10 dB). A minimum of 10 MHz bandwidth is targeted at below 3 dB of Axial Ratio for the circularly polarized antenna. A planar array from the single patch is formed next. Consideration for the array design is the beam radiation pattern in the azimuth and elevation plane which is specified based on the electrical and mechanical constraints of the UAV CP-SAR system. This research will contribute in the field of radar for remote sensing technology. The potential application is for landcover, disaster monitoring, snow cover, and oceanography mapping.

  • In this paper, we designed monopole microstrip antenna for WLAN/WiMAX system. The monopole antenna is designed by FR-4 substrate with size is $30mm{\times}40mm$. The proposed antenna is based on a planar monopole design which cover WLAN and WiMAX frequency bands. To obtain the optimized parameters, we used the simulator, CST's Microwave Studio Program and found the parameters that greatly effect antenna characteristics. Using the obtained parameters, the antenna is designed. Thus the proposed antenna satisfied the -10 dB impedance bandwidth requirement while simultaneously covering the WLAN and WiMAX bands. And characteristics of gain and radiation patterns are obtained for WLAN/WiMAX frequency bands.

  • New feeding structures using linearly and exponentially tapered lines to planar microstrip resonators are proposed. These can overcome the design problems from coupling losses and impedance mismatching by increasing the coupling efficiency. The variation of its feeding angle is evaluated for the insertion loss and bandwidth and the feedline length is optimized at ${\lambda}_g$/2. The ring resonators and patches fed by the tapered line have been designed and implemented. The experimental results show that the insertion loss is enhanced by about 7 dB. Both rings and antennas are better matched, without disturbing the single-mode resonance or distorting their radiation pattern

  • In this paper, a rectangular ring microstrip patch antenna has been analyzed by using desegmentation method and evaluation impedance matrices from Green's functions fur rectangular segment and desegmentation method for analysis of planar electro-magnetic structures is discussed. As the rectangular ring cavity could be seen as a structure subtracted a small rectangular cavity from a large one, the overall impedance matrix was obtained by applying a multiport connection method to the individual impedance matrices expressed as a term of Green's function fer rectangular segment. The electromagnetic fields can be solved from a vector potential which is satisfied it's eight boundary conditions. The electric field distribution at each edges was expressed as a histogram table with exciting modes. These results can be used to analyze the operational modes for a rectangular ring microstrip antennas.

  • In this article, new microstrip slow-wave bandpass filters using open loop resonator loaded with inter-digital capacitive fingers is proposed. The filter features not only compact in size, but also exhibits spurious stop-band rejection. Filters of this type with elliptic function and Chebyshev response are demonstrated. There is good agreement between experimental and full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation results.
