This study examines the effects of a rehabilitation program on quality of life (QOL), cardiopulmonary function and fatigue during radiotherapy for breast cancer patients. The program includes aerobic exercise, stretching and strengthening exercises. Sixty-five women participated in this study and they were asked to perform supervised exercises that last for 60 minutes five times a week for six weeks. The European organization for research and treatment of cancer-cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30) and the breast (EORTC QLQ-BR23), predicted maximal volume of oxygen consumption ($VO_{2max}$) and fatigue severity scale (FSS) were assessed before and after the rehabilitation program. The 60-minute program consisted of a 10-minute warm-up, 30-minute of aerobic exercises, and 15-minute of strengthening exercises, followed by a five-minute cool-down. Heart rates were monitored throughout the exercise class to ensure that patients were exercising at the target heart rate of 40~75% of the age-adjusted heart rate maximum. There were statistically significant differences in the changes of physical function and cancer related symptoms in the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR23 (p<.05). There was a statistically significant improvement in the predicted $VO_{2max}$ (p<.05), although there were no significant differences in the FSS (p>.05). The results of our study suggest that a supervised rehabilitation program may benefit the physical aspects and QOL of patients receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer.
The purpose of this study suggest that Park Golf for rehabilitation training of the patients with hemiplegia. The increase of the aged caused various problems. Among the problems, chronic illnesses the old people suffer from charge their family with mental, physical, social and economic burden as well as the person. Especially, the more old people are the more risks and attacks of cerebral vascular accident(CVA) exist. Therefore, the increase of the aged means the increase of cerebral vascular accident(CVA) patients. The cerebral vascular accident(CVA) patient get into difficulties to secure their livelihood due to troubles and disoders, so medical care facilities and rehabilitation training are really necessary to help them return to their normal life with mental, physical and social capability. The rehabilitation of patient with hemiplegia is ongoing process. It may possibly accomplish throughout the whole life because it takes a lot of time and effort. In addition, an ultimate aim of the rehabilitation is returning and adaptation to society. In this way, it is hardly to expect a satisfied results of the rehabilitation without motive. Therefore, patient with hemiplegia rehabilitation motive will is the most important. If interesting of park golf the patient with hemiplegia can be absorbed in easily are applied to the rehabilitation training, the patient are will to participate in the training without troubling.
Purpose: This study examined whether the motivation for rehabilitation influences the functional performance of stroke patients. Methods: To elucidate the same, correlation analysis between the 'rehabilitation motivation level' and 'functional performance improvement' was performed. Thirty-three stroke patients, who were hospitalized in rehabilitation and nursing hospitals, were enrolled in this study. Functional performance was assessed using the 10MWT, FRT, and the BBS. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the correlation between the reactivation symptoms and rehabilitation therapy at four weeks, eight weeks, and 12 weeks. Results: The results showed a significant correlation between the reactivation symptoms and rehabilitation therapy, as evidenced by the 10MWT, FRT, and BBS (8-12 weeks 10M gait test, Berg balance scale for 4-8 weeks, and 8-12 weeks). The FRT did not reveal any significant correlation between the rehabilitation program and reactivation. Conclusion: The present study confirmed that a higher motivation for rehabilitation in stroke patients resulting in a higher likelihood of it acting as a factor in improving their functional ability. Based on the above-mentioned results, this study suggests that a rehabilitation program could be considered for the motivation of patients to participate in a rehabilitation program.
The numbers of older patients increase year by year as the effect of care in illness prolongs the average life span, and it will be quite common to find octogenarians and nonogenarians. The philosophy and technics used in the rehabilitation of older patients are essentially the same as those in general rehabilitation, modified to comply with the physiology of the aging patient. Rehabilitation of the elderly is essentially a matter of teamwork and an attitude of mind. Mo one of us can accomplish a cure by ourselves and there must be confidence and continuing consultation between all members of the team.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disease that requires multidisciplinary medical care, including rehabilitation management. The emergence of a genetic therapy-based approach for SMA has markedly changed the disease course. Nonetheless, currently, updated physical therapy and rehabilitation are warranted for individuals with SMA in the era of gene therapy. In this review, we discuss the physical therapy and rehabilitation strategies currently performed for people with SMA, such as positioning and bracing, supported standing, management of musculoskeletal deformities, stretching, physical exercise training like aerobics and strengthening exercises, assistive devices, pulmonary rehabilitation, and dysphagia treatment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of lower limb training using a sliding rehabilitation machine on the foot motion and stability in stroke patients. Methods: Thirty participants were allocated to two groups: Training group (n=15) and Control group (n=15). Subjects in the control group received physical therapy for 30 minutes, five times per week, and those in the training group received lower limb training using a sliding rehabilitation machine for 30 minutes, five times per week, with physical therapy for 30 minutes, five times per week, during a period of six weeks. Heel rotation, hallux stiffness, foot balance, metatarsal load, toe out angle, and subtalar joint flexibility were measured by RS-scan. Results: Significant improvement of the foot motion (hallux stiffness, meta load) and the foot stability (toe out angle, subtalar joint flexibility) was observed in the training group. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that lower limb training using a sliding rehabilitation machine is an effective intervention to improve the foot motion and stability.
This research has been studied proper physical therapy curriculum to produce 21 century physical therapist according to the change of the times by industrialization and specialization. The curriculums of 13 colleges and 5 universities was analysed. The curriculum analysis was made up the comparision and the analysis by a liberal arts point the teaching profession point a major point a clinical practice paint the rates of total opening subjects. The analyzing results were as follows: 1. A point of the credits a liberal elective subject is the small number 2. To deeping of major by spreading major foundation 3. Lack of the time for the clinical practice education.
PURPOSE: This study compared the effects of computer-based and virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation programs on the cognitive function, upper limb function, activities of daily living, and their impact on the prefrontal cortex in convalescent stroke patients. METHODS: Ten recovering stroke patients were assessed for their cognitive function, upper limb function, and daily living activities using the Neurobehavioral Cognitive Status Examination, the Korean version of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment, and the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index. The prefrontal cortex activity was measured with functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy. The virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation group utilized a program of daily living activities delivered via a laptop and Oculus Rift. The computer-based cognitive rehabilitation group performed various cognitive tasks on an all-in-one PC. Both groups underwent cognitive rehabilitation training for 30 minutes per day, three times a week, for six weeks, with identical conventional rehabilitation therapies in the hospital. RESULTS: Both programs positively impacted the cognitive and physical functions. On the other hand, the virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation program had a larger influence on improving the cognitive and physical functions of convalescing stroke patients. CONCLUSION: The virtual reality program suggests its potential to enhance cognitive and physical functions in convalescent stroke patients through increased engagement, focus, real-time feedback, and game elements, making it a promising rehabilitation approach.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of hallux valgus on the ankle plantarflexor and dorsiflexor peak torque, on the total work, on the average power, and on the Peak torque of plantarflexor to dorsiflexor ratio values. Isokinetic ankle plantarflexor and dorsiflexor strength was evaluated in 30 women(control: 15, hallux valgus: 15) by Cybex NORM System. Test data was gathered in the right ankle at a speed of 60/sec, 90/sec, 120/sec in the control group and the hallux valgus group. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 10.0 for windows software. Mean and standard deviations were measured and calculated for the General characterristic of subjects. A paired t-test was used to examine the differnces in the means for the ankle plantarflexor and dorsiflexor between two groups. Pearson coefficient correlation was used to examine the correlation of the hallux valgus and the peak torque. Analysis of variance indicated that isokinetic values of the control group were greater than the hallux valgus group(p<.05, p<.01).
