  • This paper has dealt with thermo-physical properties of microencapsulated phase change material slurry as a latent heat storage material having a low melting point. The measured results of the thermo-physical properties of the test microencapsulated phase change material slurry, those are, density, specific heat, thermal conductivity and viscosity, were discussed for the temperature region of solid and liquid phases of the dispersion material (paraffin). The measurements of these properties of microencapsulated phase change material slurry have been carried out by using a specific-gravity meter, a water calorimeter, a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC), a transient hot wire method and rotating type viscometer, respectively. It was clarified that the additional properties law could be applied to the estimation of the density and specific heat of microencapsulated phase change material slurry and also the Euckens equation could be applied to the estimation of the thermal conductivity of this slurry.

  • This study was initiated to build runoff plots, install soil and water quality monitoring systems and collect background data from the plots and soils to assess runoff the nonpoint source pollution and soil physical change in mountainous soils. Eleven 3 $\times$ 15 m runoff plots and monitoring systems were installed at a field of National Alpine Agricultural Experiment Station to monitor soil physical change, and discharge of nonpoint source pollutant. Corn and potato were cultivated under different fertilizer, tillage and residue cover treatments. The soil has a single-layered cluster structure that has a relatively good hydrologic properties and can adsorb a large amount of nutrient. 11 runoff plots were treated and monitored with respect to physical property of the soil, runoff and sediment discharge.

  • Effect of twist-setting time, temperature and cylinder layer for the physical properties of the twist yarn were investigated by separated 9 layer from yarn cylinder. Obtained results were as follow. Shrinkage of the yarn in middle layer shows high value with heat-permeation and in inner's shows low value because of cylinder hardness. And then yarn thermal shrinkage in outer layers shows more or less high value because twist yarn in the outer layer sets more faster. Concerning to the difference on the yam physical properties among cylinder layers, the changes on physical properties shows significant differences from the 7th layer to the last one. Linear density, T.P.M and initial modulus decreases but snarl index increases.

  • Silk fibroin (SF) films were prepared using various plasticizers and their physical properties were determined. Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-SF and polypropylene glycol (PPG)-SF films had tensile strengths (TS) of 23.71 MPa and 24.51 MPa, respectively, whereas the glycerol (G)-SF film had the lowest TS of 14.24 MPa. G-SF film had the highest $\%$ elongation, compared to PPG-SF and PEG-SF films. Water vapor permeability (WVP) of SF films varied with addition of plasticizers, and PEG-SF film had the lowest WVP. There was no significant difference in Hunter L value among treatments, but PEG-SF film had higher Hunter a and b values. These results suggest that SF film could be applied to food packaging and that the addition of plasticizers should improve the physical properties of SF film.

  • In this study, the physical properties of live garlic at the harvesting season were measured and analyzed as a fundamental study for developing a garlic harvester. A universal testing machine and a machine vision system were used to obtain mechanical and morphological properties of live garlic, respectively. The moisture content of live garlic at the harvesting season was 50% higher than that of dried garlic. The root of live garlic elongated greatly with respect to the applied tensile force. The relationship between the projected area and the weight of a bulb of live garlic was linear. Such a feature would be applied to develop an effective garlic harvester or garlic quality grader. Other useful physical properties of live garlic at the harvesting season were represented in the study.

  • Antennas were fabricated by physical(adhesive) and chemical(deposition+plating) method on organic-inorganic composite material. And antennas were measured dielectric constant and gain. Dielectric constant of antennas were fabricated by physical method was decreased with increase of adhesive tape thickness and number of conduction material composition. But antennas were fabricated by chemical method was reached to 90 % of dielectric material. Gain of antennas were fabricated by physical method was decreased with increase of adhesive tape thickness. But they were unrelated with conduction material composition. The other side antennas were fabricated by chemical method excelled more 0.8 dBic than antennas were fabricated by physical method in gain of antenna. Finally, chemical method can expect excellent product process because it can produce smaller size, higher gain and elimination of many handworks.

  • Significant advances in mechanical testing for hard materials are discussed in this paper. There are three specific areas that are covered. In the measurement of fracture toughness factors such as the control of slow crack growth to produce strating cracks, and evaluating reproducibility and repeatability of tests have been recently examined. The miniaturization of tests reduces the amount of material that is used in testing, improves the throughput of tests, and also improves cost effectiveness. New techniques such as stepwise testing and micro scratch testing have contributed to significant additions to the knowledge of the wear mechanisms that operate in these materials.

  • To improve the utilization efficiency of solar energy, a new solar optical concentrating system composed of a parabolic reflector with a square cross-section, a hyperbolic reflector with a square cross-section and two converging convex lenses has been designed. The proposed method can simultaneously focus and shape sun light into a square pattern on the solar panel. In addition, the total reflection property of photonic crystal within the range of the visible sunlight spectrum has been analyzed. Finally, the relationship between solar concentrating multiples and the diameter of the primary mirror has been discussed.

  • Based on the profiles of cone index with depth, physical properties of hardpan in selected rice fields were measured and analyzed in the study. An error correction algorithm removing a random measurement error from raw CI profile data was introduced in the study. The properties of hardpan included the shape, the thickness and the rice root growing layer. The analysis of physical properties of hardpan in the rice fields showed that the type of hardpan could be classified into 6 categories. The thickness of hardpan ranged from 6 cm up to 41 cm and the average hardness of hardpan was analyzed to be from 1.1 MPa through 3.2 MPa in Cone index.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of physical and chemical properties and the usability of long-term stored leaf tobacco. The physical chemical properties of the flue-cured and burley leaves produced in 1993, processed in 1994 were analysed from Nov. 1996 to Nov. 1999. The pH and moisture content in leaf decreased slowly until 4 years’storage after processing, while those of leaf changed little thereafter. However, total sugar content continuously decreased until 5 years after processing. The filling capacity increased and shatter resistance index decreased in long-term stored leaf. The sensory test, cilia stasis and the chemical components of cigarette smoke had no significant differences between short and long-term stored leaves. When the processed leaves were stored till 5 years after processing, there were no deteriorative effects on quality and usability of leaf tobacco. Therefore, it is considered that the processed leaf may be stored for 5 years or more under the inevitable situation.
