  • Organic acid salt of fatty polyamide (DDDT) and acrylate of fatty carbamide (DDTCA) were synthesized as a main component for the softener. O/W type non-ionic softener (NSC) was prepared by blending DDDT and DDTCA with beef tallow, lanolin anhydride. polyoxyethylene(7) stearyl ether, and polyoxyethylene(50) oleyl ether. After treatment of NSC to all cotton fabrics, the physical properties such as tear strength, crease recovery, and flexing abrasion resistance were measured. As a result of the measurement, NSC was proved to be durable non-ionic softener with good softness.

  • Using materials with high thermal conductivity is a matter of great concern in the field of thermal management. In this study, we present our experimental results on an important physical property of carbon nanotube (CNT) films, two-dimensional thermal conductivity obtained by using an optical method based on Raman spectroscopy. We prepared four kinds of CNT films to investigate the effect of CNT type on heat spreading performance of films. This first comparative study using the optical method shows that the arc-discharge single-walled carbon nanotubes yield the best heat spreading film. And we observed thermal conductivity values of CNT films with various transmittances and found that the Raman method works as long as the sample is a transparent film. This study provides useful information on characterization of thermal conduction in transparent CNT films and could be an important step toward high-performance carbon-based heat spreading films.

  • The interface between low carbon steel and blended cement pastes containing slag was investigated using impedance spectroscopy. In addition, the pastes were characterized by several analytical methods (XRD, EDX, electrode potential, pH and ICP). The electrical behavior of the interface in the blended slag systems is correlated to its corresponding pore solution chemistry and the products present in the interface. Passivation occurred at the paste/steel interfaces, in cement pastes up to containing from 0 to 75% slag content. 100% slag paste induced corrosion of the low carbon steel, which could be explained by the influence of sulfur on the system.

  • The tailings stocked at two tailing piles in Sangdong aea have raised collapse hazards and various environmental problems. A trial for effective utilization of tailings as fine aggregates for polymer concrete has been performed along with mineralogical and physical characterization of tailings. The tailings from the Sangdong mine, mainly composed of quartz, orthoclase, amphiboles and muscovite, are alkaline and tailings at the new tailing pile are generally finer in grain size than those at the old tailing pile. In case of using New Tailings as fine aggregates, cement mortar with equivalent amounts of tailings and sands shows the highest compressive strength. Cement mortars containing tailings show lower values of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength than those not-containing tailings. Mixture of polymers such as SBR and EVA in cement mortars raises strengths of cement mortars effectively, which shows potential possiblity to utilize the tailings in Sangdong area as fine aggregates for polymer concretes.

  • Generally, The protone exchange membrane (PEM) contains cationic exchange groups such as SO3$\^$-/ group. The poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PSSA) and its copolymers are widely studied because of easily synthetic method and higher conductivities. However, PSSA is not used individually because of poor physical properties such as brittleness and relatively lower Tg. So some researchers are concerned engineering plastics (EP) such as polyimides, polysulfone, polyketones, and poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (MPPO) etc. (omitted)

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) obtained from PVPi has the highest syndiotacticity among (PVA)s obtained via radical polymerization, and the s-diad content of PVA prepared by low temperature polymerization of vinyl pivalate (VPi)[1-5] comes to eve. 60%, Therefore, we an obtain (PVA)s with various tacticities through the copolymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) and VPi and can examine the relation between physical properties of (PVA)s and their tacticities. • Recently, Near-infrared (NIR)colorant is intriguing and attractive but full of challenges. Although some cyanine colorant have been commercialized, near-infrared colorant with intensive NIR absorption, good chemical and photo-stability, and high solubility still remain as target compound. Certain polycyclic aromatic compounds such as quaterrylene represent a key class of NIR colorant and also give rise to outstanding physical and chemical properties after appropriate chemical modification. In this study, We have tried to introduceimide functional group to quaterrylene in order to give chemical and thermal stability. Finally, N,N'-bis (2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-quarterrylene-3,4:13,14-tetracarboximide was synthesized and evaluated its properties using $^1H$ NMR, Maldi-tof, TGA, and UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy as NIR colorant. The quaterrylene bisimide compound exhibit a excellent thermal stability and chemical stability.

  • Physical properties of artificial graphite electrodes were evaluated along three different directions; circumferential (X), radial (Y), and axial (Z) directions. Four kinds of commercial electrode products were used in this study for the evaluation; pole (AP) and nipple (AN) of manufacturer A, pole (BP) and nipple (BN) of manufacturer B. The mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties in X and Y directions were very similar to each other. In Z direction, however, the mechanical properties, including flexural strength and compressive strength, were higher, and electric resistance and thermal expansion were much lower than those in the other directions. The microstructures observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope revealed that the differences in properties by the measuring direction were caused by the preferential alignment of needle cokes along the Z direction. When comparing the properties of the electrode samples in the same direction, the mechanical properties mainly depended on the bulk density or porosity of the samples as well as preferential alignment of needle cokes.

  • Wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) pectin, which binds to human melanoma cell line, was conjugated with Praecoxin A using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide as a cross-linking agent. Physical mixture (PM) of WGA and Praecoxin A was also prepared by using a non-specific binding property of Praecoxin A to WGA. The WGA:Praecoxin A ratio in the conjugate and PM was approximately 1:18 and 1:20, respectively. The results of hemagglutination assay and enzyme-linked lectin assay indicated that the conjugate and PM maintained the lectin-like properties of the WGA. The binding ratio of conjugate was about 70% during 4-24 hr, but the most of Praecoxin A was released within 24 hr in the case of PM. These results lead to the conclusion that the conjugate is potentially useful for the formulation of injection that requires targeting for melanoma as well as sustained release at the site.

  • We synthesized three kinds of chromophores incorporating aromatic quinoline unit as a $\pi-conjugated$ bridge in order to prepare more thermally stable nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores than general stilbene unit. The NLO poly(methylmethacrylate) copolymer, polyimides, and polyester were successfully synthesized by these corresponding quinoline-based monomers. Their physical and optical properties were investigated by thermogravimetry, gel permeation chromatography, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, second harmonic generation (SHG) and electro-optic (EO) measurement. All the polymers exhibited better thermal stability, however their NLO activity was a little lower than that of general stilbene-based NLO polymers. Among three kinds of polymers, the PMMA copolymer with quinoline chromophores had the largest SHG coefficient d33 value of 27 pm/V (at 1.064 $\mu\textrm{m})$ and EO coefficient r33 value of 6.8 pm/V (at 1.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$).
