Combined Control Algorithm for a DC-DC Converter of PV & Battery for Mongolian Nomadic Life (유목민들을 위한 PV & Battery용 DC-DC 컨버터의 통합제어 알고리즘)

  • A stand-alone Photovoltaic (PV) system is one of the most important energy system for Mongolian nomadic herders. Basically, a stand-alone PV system uses two DC-DC converters. This makes the system costly, size bigger and difficult to move from one place to another place for the nomadic herders. A combined control algorithm for charging the battery using Stage of Charge (SOC) and Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is proposed in this paper. The batteries are charged by the three stage method; bulk, absorption and float charge. In the bulk stage used the MPPT function in this study. The performance of the proposed control algorithm is evaluated in both steady and changing weather conditions. The results are obtained using PSIM software. The results obtained in this paper are useful in designing a stand-alone PV system in the rural life like Mongolian nomadic herders.

  • 본 논문은 태양광 전력변환장치 일체형 양방향 배터리 충전기 시스템을 제안한다. 이 새로운 개념의 PHEV 및 EV용 배터리 충방전 시스템은 태양광 전력변환장치와 배터리 충방전기의 기능을 동시에 포함하고 있다. 또한 환경변화에 민감한 태양광 전원, 부하인 그리드와 배터리의 특성을 고려하여 구동 알고리즘을 제시하며, 알고리즘을 전원과 부하의 조건에 따라 4가지 경우로 나누어 상세한 분석이 이루어 졌으며 배터리 충전알고리즘의 정전류 제어와 정전압 제어의 장단점을 결합한 하이브리드 정전류 정전압제어를 배터리 충방전 알고리즘으로 적용한다. 또한 시뮬레이션과 3.3kW 실험세트를 구성하여 실험을 수행하고 이를 통해 논문의 타당성을 검증한다.

  • In comparison with some other light sources, LED has merits such as long lifetime, pollution free, and high energy efficiency. Lately, due to development of LED with high brightness and capacity, LED, which has been applied in display system only, has applied in the field of lighting system. As power LED for lighting system can be burned out by heat problem, the driving current of power LED has to be controlled below the designed value. In this paper, power LED photovoltaic lighting system, which has the current limitting function, has been described. After photovoltaic power is generated from PV panel. it is charged into a battery. And then, after the charged power is converted to DC24[V] through a boost DC-DC converter, it is supplied to power LED at night. It has been validated by designing and testing of 72[W] power LED lighting system, which includes a PV charger, a boost DC-DC converter and a current limiter for driving power LED.
