The paper is a study to develop and verify a blood glucose level prediction model based on biosignals obtained from photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors, ICT technology and data. Blood glucose prediction used the MLP architecture of machine learning. The input layer of the machine learning model consists of 10 input nodes and 5 hidden layers: heart rate, heart rate variability, age, gender, VLF, LF, HF, SDNN, RMSSD, and PNN50. The results of the predictive model are MSE=0.0724, MAE=1.1022 and RMSE=1.0285, and the coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.9985. A blood glucose prediction model using bio-signal data collected from digital devices and machine learning was established and verified. If research to standardize and increase accuracy of machine learning datasets for various digital devices continues, it could be an alternative method for individual blood glucose management.
The biomedical information (heart rate, HRV, $SpO_2$ etc) from the Photoplethysmography (PPG) signal section can be estimated without the motion artifacts if the PPG signal section in the motion artifacts is detected accurately. But the PPG signal is easily exposed to the motion artifacts by the decrease of the medical instrument size and applying as portable or wearable. Besides, it is difficult to completely eliminate the motion artifacts from the PPG signal without distortion and ensure reliability as well. In this paper, the method was suggested to determine the motion artifacts or not on the PPG signal of the section divided into intervals of constant length. By comparing the spectrum of each section, it can be determined whether the motion artifacts are or not after obtaining the spectrum of each section by the Goertzel algorithm. Moreover, an amount of computation while maintaining a high detection rate can be reduced by using the Goertzel algorithm.

In this study, experiments using bioelectronic signals and questionnaire surveys were carried out in learning conditions when temperatures changed from low- and high-uncomfortable to comfortable. As a result, the stress factor Photoplethysmography (PPG) decreased, while the Root Mean Square of Standard Deviation (RMSSD) of PPG increased when the indoor temperature was changed from low- or high-uncomfortable to comfortable. Additionally, the absolute power of the ${\alpha}$-wave in the brain increased. According to the analysis of the association between the questionnaire and bioelectronic signals, the standard deviation of the stress factor as measured by pulse was closely related to the result of the thermal sensation questionnaire. In addition, it was found that the concentration on studying improved under comfortable temperatures when compared to uncomfortable temperatures.
In this paper, Finger-Toe Index (FTI) is proposed as an analytic parameter for the characterization of arterial vessel. Different from the currently being employed pulse wave velocity (PWV) information of the volume pulse wave measured from 4 arterial channels, the proposed FTI uses the ratio of the shorter of the two up-stroke time of PPG from fingers ($UT_{finger}$) and that of PPG (Photoplethysmography) from toes ($UT_{toe}$). To verify the usefulness of the proposed method, Finger-Toe Indexes were derived from the volume pulse waves acquired from 50 people under examination aged from 12 to 81 years old, and they were then compared with blood pressure ankle-brachial index (ABI). It was successfully demonstrated that the arterial stiffness can be estimated with respect to age and FTI is more strongly correlated with the pulse transit time than ABI. From the regression analysis, we also found that FTI has significant correlation PWV for a quantitative index of arterial stiffness and provides more accurate information than ABI for the characterization of arterial vessel.
Daily monitoring of the heart rate can facilitate detection of heart-related diseases in their early stages. Therefore, providing an easy-to-use and noninvasive heart rate monitoring system has been a very popular research topic in the field of healthcare. One of good candidate methods is to use commonly available cameras and extract information that can help to estimate heart rate from a human face. Generally, such information can be retrieved using two different approaches: photoplethysmography (PPG) and ballistocardiography (BCG). PPG exploits slight color changes caused by blood volume variations during heartbeats; thus, it tends to be vulnerable to unstable lighting conditions. BCG exploits subtle head motions caused by pumped blood travelling through the carotid artery during heartbeats; thus, it is vulnerable to the voluntary head movements that are not related to heartbeats. Nevertheless, most related works use either to estimate the heart rate. In this paper, we propose to combine two approaches to be robust to challenging conditions. Specifically, we explore possible ways to combine raw signals obtained from two approaches and verify that the proposed combination shows better accuracies under challenging conditions, such as voluntary head movements and ambient lighting changes.

Applicable range of Photoplethysmography (PPG) becomes wider as a non-invasive physiological measurement technique. However, PPG waveform is easy to be distorted by ambient light or vascular variation from temperature changes. Especially, irregular variation of PPG waveform caused by ambient temperature not only severely distorts the PPG, but also leads miss interpretation in clinical applications. Therefore, the investigation of between temperature and PPG waveform is quite important in using PPG. The purpose of this research is to quantify the PPG waveform characteristic and to investigate the waveform variation following the temperature change on measuring site. To quantify the fluctuation of PPG waveform, we use two techniques; detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and AC/DC analysis of PPG. We record PPG under temperature stress, which applied by medical use heat pack ($40^{\circ}C$) and ice pack ($0^{\circ}C$). Ten participants were applied to the experiment, and the result was evaluated to approve the temperature effect with statistical method, Wilcoxon signed rank test. The result shows that the AC component (p<0.05) and perfusion index DFS scale exponent (p<0.01) of PPG have the significance to temperature stress except for a DC component of PPG.
In this study, a multilevel visible light communication (VLC) system based on resistor ladder circuit is designed to transmit medical data. VLC technology is being considered as an alternative wireless communication due to various advantages such as ubiquity, license free operation, low energy consumption, and no radio frequency (RF) radiation characteristics. With VLC even in places where traditional RF communication (e.g., Wi-Fi) is forbidden, significant bio-medical signal including the electrocardiography (ECG) and photoplethysmography (PPG) data can be transmitted. More lives could be saved anywhere by this potential advantage of VLC with a fast emergency response time. A multilevel transmission scheme is adopted to improve the data capacity with keeping simplicity, where data transmission rate can increase by log2m times (m is the number of voltage levels) than that of conventional VLC transmission based on on/off keying. In order to generate multi-amplitudes, resistor ladder circuit, which is a basic principle of digital to analog convertor, is employed, and information is transferred through LED (Light-Emitting Diode) with different voltage level. In the receiver side, multilevel signal is detected by optical receiver including a photo diode. Then, the collected data are analyzed to serve the necessary medical care to the concerned patient.

Pulse waves continuously change with respect to the characteristics and status of the cardiovascular system and in relation to the blood pressure (BP) and the pulse wave velocity (PWV). Monitoring the vascular condition by analyzing the variations in pulse waveforms has been used to diagnose vascular disorders and in drug treatment of arteriosclerosis and peripheral circulatory obstruction. In this paper, we investigated the vascular characteristic index with regard to the BP and classified by pulse wave signals. The pressure pulse wave and photoplethysmography (PPG) were measured simultaneously while subjects exercised, producing changes in the BP, to analyze the variation in the vascular characteristic index. We investigated the correlation between the BP and vascular characteristic index with regard to the classification methods of the pulse wave. The reflection index (RI) and vascular stiffness index were correlated with the diastolic BP, but no correlation was found between these parameters and the systolic BP. These results suggest the possibility of estimating BP through simple measurements of pulse waves.

In this study, to check the function of managing the severity of ultraviolet rays with a smart watch, a popular health care IT device, It was tested whether measuring heart rate using a PPG(Photoplethysmography) sensor representatively used in a smart watch could tell skin changes caused by ultraviolet rays. Through this experiment, we examined the possibility that the skin color tanned by ultraviolet rays can be determined only by the heart rate measurement function of the PPG sensor. In addition, the possibility of expanding the heart rate measurement function of the PPG sensor to the use of skin condition management was considered. we used an Arduino-based reflective PPG sensor to measure changes in heart rate by selecting body sites with high and low UV rays exposure. A significant value was derived through tests considering factors such as gender, UV exposure, and age. As a result, the study identified the possibility of adding ultraviolet rays and skincare items to future smart watch healthcare items and the possibility of expanding skin measurement methods. It is also possible to suggest the direction of future research.
