We use numerical simulations to investigate the evolution of both the star formation rate (SFR) and the observable properties of equal-mass disk merger remnants for 18 different orbital configurations. In our analysis, the photometric properties of the remnants have been constructed by considering dust reddening effect in order to facilitate the comparison with observational data of large surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). First, we found that the detailed evolutions of merging galaxies are different between the merging characteristics such as merging time scale, SFR history, and burst efficiency. Around $70{\pm}5$ percent of gas turns into stars until the merger-induced starburst ends regardless of merger types. Our study also suggests that merger features involve a small fraction of stars. Merger features last roughly 3 times the final coalescence time of galaxy mergers. For a shallower surface brightness limit, the features seem to survive in a shorter time, which is the reason why detecting merger features by using shallow surveys were difficult in the past.
Submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) have played an important role in the understanding of galaxy evolution and cosmic star formation history at high redshift because they are known as being located at z ~ 2 and harbor a vigorous star formation. Therefore studying properties of SMGs can lead us to understand evolution of massive and actively star forming galaxies and distribution of cosmic star formation density. Recently we detected 548 SMGs near North Ecliptic Pole with JCMT/SCUBA-2 from the JCMT large program covering about 2 deg2 so far. To derive their physical parameters, we compiled a multi-wavelength photometry ranging from optical (0.3 ㎛) to submillimeter (850 ㎛) by cross-identifying counterparts at different wavelengths. In order to find counterparts, we used either VLA-1.4 GHz image and/or Spitzer/IRAC 3.6 ㎛, 4.5 ㎛ image. The number of SMGs with relatively robust counterparts is 349. In this talk, we present photometric redshifts, stellar mass, star formation rates, total infrared luminosity, and AGN fraction of these 349 SMGs derived through SED fitting analysis.

The Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) is a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) treasury project. The COSMOS aims to perform a 2 square degree imaging survey of an equatorial field in I(F814W) band, using the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). Such a wide field survey, combined with ground-based photometric and spectroscopic data, is essential to understand the interplay between large scale structure, evolution and formation of galaxies and dark matter. In 2004, we have obtained high-quality, broad band images of the COSMOS field (B, V, r', i', and z') using Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope, and we have started our new optical multi-band program, COSMOS-21 in 2005. Here, we present a brief summary of the current status of the COSMOS project together with contributions from the Subaru Telescope. Our future Subaru program, COSMOS-21, is also discussed briefly.
We present space-based near-IR (NIR) and optical photometry of globular clusters (GCs) of 16 early-type galaxies in the Fornax and Virgo Clusters. The NIR imaging data for the nearby galaxies was acquired with the IR Channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3/IR) in the F110W ($J_{110}$) and F160W ($H_{160}$) bandpasses. We introduce the full sample of our WFC3/IR program, describe data reductions and photometric measurements including GC candidate selection criteria, and then show selected GCs' color-magnitude diagrams. The tilted features in the diagrams related to the morphological types of host galaxies are discussed in the context of galaxy formation and evolution histories. Combining F475W ($g_{475}$) and F850LP ($z_{850}$) data taken from the Advanced Camera for Surveys Virgo and Fornax Cluster Surveys with our NIR data, we investigate the bimodality in optical-NIR color distribution and the nonlinear feature of the optical-NIR color relation as a function of optical color for these extragalactic GC systems.

UBV I CCD photometry of NGC 2353 is performed as a part of the "Sejong Open cluster Survey" (SOS). Using photometric membership criteria we select probable members of the cluster. We derive the reddening and distance to the cluster, i.e., E(B - V ) = 0.10 ${\pm}$ 0.02 mag and 1.17 ${\pm}$ 0.04 kpc, respectively. We find that the projected distribution of the probable members on the sky is elliptical in shape rather than circular. The age of the cluster is estimated to be log(age)=8.1 ${\pm}$ 0.1 in years, older than what was found in previous studies. The minimum value of binary fraction is estimated to be about 48 ${\pm}$ 5 percent from a Gaussian function fit to the distribution of the distance moduli of the photometric members. Finally, we also obtain the luminosity function and the initial mass function (IMF) of the probable cluster members. The slope of the IMF is ${\Gamma}=-1.3{\pm}0.2$.
The rotation of asteroids can help reveal not only the fundamental characteristics of asteroids but also the origin and evolution of our Solar System. From the photometric observations for NEA 162173 (1999 JU3) and Maria family asteroids using 0.5 m- to 2 m- class telescopes at 10 observatories in the northern hemisphere, I obtained a total of 260 lightcurves for 97 asteroids and derived synodic rotational periods for 51 objects, including newly obtained periods of 34 asteroids. For the sake of efficiency, I developed an observation scheduler, SMART (Scheduler for Measuring Asteroid RoTation) and a photometric analysis software subsystem, ASAP (Asteroid Spin Analysis Package). Based on the lightcurve analysis of NEA 162173 (1999 JU3) and Maria family asteroids, 1) I present the rotational and observational characteristics of 1999 JU3 and provided the Hayabusa-2 Science team with the information on pole orientations, 2) I investigated correlations among rotational periods, amplitudes of lightcurves, and sizes, and conclude that the rotational properties of old-type family asteroids have been changed considerably by the YORP effect. 3) Finally, I found the Yarkovsky footprints on the Maria asteroid family and estimated that approximately 37 to 75 Maria family asteroids larger than 1 km have entered the near-Earth space every 100 Myr. This study should reveal the collisional history and transport route of the members from the resonance region to the near Earth space, for the first time.
We present new B, V, and R CCD photometric light curves for the low mass ratio contact binary FP Boo. A new photometric solution and absolute physical dimensions of the system were derived by applying the Wilson-Devinney program to our observed light curves and to previously published Rucinski et al.'s radial velocity curves. From the H-R diagram of 24 low mass ratio contact binary system including FP Boo, the evolutionary stage of FP Boo was found to coincide with those of the general low mass ratio contact binary systems. The light curves obtained in this season show a small asymmetry in their shapes.
We completed four color light curves of the near-contact binary CN And during three nights from September to December 2004 using the 61-cm reflector and BV RI filters at Sobaeksan Observatory. We determined four new times of minimum light (two timings for primary eclipse, two for secondary). Newly obtained BV RI light curves and the radial velocity curves from Rucinski et a1. (2000) were simultaneously analyzed to derive the system parameters of CN And. We used the semi-detached mode 4 of the 2003-version of the Wilson-Devinney binary model, and interpreted the asymmetry of the light curve by introducing two spots; a cool spot on the primary component and a hot spot on the secondary component. New photometric parameters are not much different from those of Cicek et a1. (2005), and it is considered that the system is in the era of broken contact. From the orbital period study with all available timings including our data, we found a continous period decrease with a rate of $P_{obs}=--1.82{\times}10^{-7}\;d\;yr^{-1}$ that can be explained with two possible mechanisms. We think the most likely cause of the period decrease is a thermal mass transfer from the primary to the secondary component, rather than angular momentum loss due to a magnetic stellar wind.
The links between super-massive black hole masses and their host galaxy properties are observed, indicating that black hole growth and host galaxy evolution are closely related. Reverberation mapping, which uses the time delay from the central black hole to broad line regions, is one of the best methods to estimate masses of black holes of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). However, only masses of about 50 black holes have been determined in reverberation mapping studies so far, and most of them are limited to optical luminosities below 10^45 erg/s due to the challenges of long-term time domain observations in both photometry and spectroscopy. In this project, we expand reverberation mapping samples to higher luminosities of > 10^44.5 erg/s at 0.1 < z < 0.35, that have expected time lags of 40 - 250 light days. Photometric (using LOAO 1-m and MDM 1.3-m) and spectroscopic (using MDM 2.4-m and Lick 3-m) monitoring campaigns are being conducted for a 3 year duration and 20 day cadence. Precedent photometric observations in 2015B show some targets with variability and follow-up spectroscopic observations are on-going. In this presentation, we introduce our project, present reverberation mapping simulation results, and preliminary results on photometry. These reverberation mapping masses of relatively high luminous AGNs will provide a strong constraint on black hole mass calibration, e.g., the single-epoch mass estimation.
We present photometric solutions of the 26,212 eclipsing binaries discovered in the LMC by Graczyk et al. (2011). They published that 70 percent of a total are detached systems. Another 25 and 5 percent are semi-detached and contact binaries, respectively. We discovered that 21 percent of 26,121 eclipsing binary stars are eccentric orbit systems. The binary star distribution in the LMC is different from those of the Galactic center direction (Bade window). It is very interesting that there are only 5 of 357 (2 percent) stars have eccentric orbit in the Galactic Center (Kang 2011). We selected the light curve of 18,274 detached systems. Then we estimated the fundamental parameters on the basis of their photometric solutions and the semi-major-axis (a) assuming the distance modulus to the LMC~18.50. We compared the estimated fundamental parameters with an empirical mass-luminosity relation and consistency between mass-radius relation base on stellar evolution model in the low metallicity (Z=0.008) by Bertelli et al. (2009). This method allows for independent determine of the fundamental parameters of the eclipsing binaries in the LMC without the radial velocity curves.
