졸-겔법으로 제조한 TiO2-SiO2촉매에서 페놀의 광분해 반응 (Photodegradation of Phenol over TiO2-SiO2 Catalysts Prepared by Sol-gel Method)

  • Photocatalytic degradation of phenol was carried out with UV-illuminated TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ in aqueous suspension. TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method from the titanium isopropoxide and tetraethylorthosilicate at different Ti/Si ratio and some commercial TiO$_2$ catalysts were used as purchased. All catalysts were characterized by X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and BET surface area analyzer. The effect of reaction conditions, such as initial concentration of phenol, reaction temperature and catalyst weight on the photocatalytic activity was studied. In addition, TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$(49: 1) prepared by sol-gel method showed higher activity than commercial TiO$_2$catalysts on the photocatalytic degradation of phenol. The addition of SiO$_2$ into TiO$_2$hepled to increase the thermal stability of titania which suppressed the formation of anatase into rutile. The photocatalytic degradation of phenol showed pseudo-1st order reaction and the degradation rate increases with decreasing initial phenol concentration.

연속식 광촉매반응기를 이용한 MEK 분해특성 연구 (Degradation of MEK using continuous single module photo-catalytic reactor)

  • methylethylketone(MEK)의 광분해 특성을 연속식 단일관형태의 광촉매반응기를 이용하여 연구하였다. 연속식 광촉매반응기에 적용된 주요 반응변수는 MEK의 초기농도, 광세기, 장기운전의 영향이었다. MEK의 주입농도가 증가할수록 광분해 효율은 감소하였으며, 광분해 감소의 폭은 높은 유속에서 더욱 두드러졌다. 동일한 체류시간의 조건에서 광반응기의 직경과 UV램프의 파장이 증가할수록 MEK제거효율은 감소하였다. 연속식 광촉매반응기를 120시간 연속적으로 운전하여도 MEK 제거효율에서의 감소는 없었다.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Ternary Nanocomposite Based on CdSe Decorated Graphene-TiO2 and its Application in the Quantitative Analysis of Alcohol with Reduction of CO2

  • In this work, photocatalytic $CO_2$ reduction over a CdSe-graphene-$TiO_2$ nanocomposite has been studied. The obtained material was successfully fabricated via ultrasonic technique. The physical properties of the as-synthesized materials were characterized by some physical techniques. The $TiO_2$ and CdSe dispersed graphene nanocomposite showed excellent results of strong reduction rates of $CO_2$ compared to the results of bare $TiO_2$ and binary CdSe-graphene. An outstanding point of the combination of CdSe-$TiO_2$ and graphene appeared in the form of great photocatalytic reduction capability of $CO_2$. The photocatalytic activity of the asfabricated composite was tested by surveying for the photoreduction of $CO_2$ to alcohol under UV and visible light irradiation, and the obtained results imply that the as-prepared CdSe-graphene-$TiO_2$ nanocomposite is promising to become a potential candidate for the photocatalytic $CO_2$ reduction.

Synthesis of Mesoporous TiO2 and Its Application to Photocatalytic Activation of Methylene Blue and E. coli

  • Mesoporous $TiO_2$ material was synthesized from diblock copolymers with ethylene oxide chains via a sol-gel process in aqueous solution. The properties of these materials were characterized with several analytical techniques including field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) analysis. The mesoporous $TiO_2$ materials calcined at 400${^{\circ}C}$ were found to have specific surface areas 212 $m^2g^-1$, average pore sizes 6.2 nm, and their average crystal sizes were found to be 8.2 nm. The photocatalytic activity of mesoporous $TiO_2$ was characterized with UV-Vis spectroscopy, and it was found to be 5.8 times higher than that of Degussa P25 $TiO_2$ (P25). For deactivation of Escherichia coli, mesoporous $TiO_2$ also has high photocatalytic inactivity than that of P25. Such a high photocatalytic activity is explained with large surface area and small crystal size with wormhole-like mesoporous structure.

High Photocatalytic Activity of Gd2O2S:Tb Modified Titanium Dioxide Films

  • $Fe_2O_3,\;Ag_2O,\;CaWO_4$ and $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb loaded on titanium dioxide photocatalysts (P25, Degussa) were prepared by a calcination. Their composite films containing water-born polyurethane used as a material for immobilization were obtained by spray coating technique. The photocatalytic activity of the titanium dioxide films was characterized by decrease of UV-vis absorption spectra for methylene blue and gas chromatography for photocatalytic decomposition of formaldehyde diluted in water. It was shown that the $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb modified titanium dioxide films had good photocatalytic properties and followed the first-order kinetic model with regard to photocatalytic decoloration of methylene blue. Especially in formaldehyde photodegradation experiment, decrease rate of concentration of the titanium dioxide films with $Gd_2O_2S$:Tb modifying was about 35% larger than that of the unloaded titanium dioxide film.

Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity by the Combined Influence of Ferroelectric Domain and Au Nanoparticles for BaTiO3 Fibers

  • Ferroelectric particles have been applied in the photocatalytic field because the spontaneous polarization results in the internal electric field, which can accelerate the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. In this study, the $BaTiO_3$ (BT) fibers are synthesized by electrospinning. The BT fibers calcined above $800^{\circ}C$ exhibit a strong ferroelectric property, which is verified by a typical butterfly-shaped displacement-voltage loop. It is found that the BT fibers with the single-domain structure exhibit better photocatalytic performance than that with the multi-domain configuration. When the single-domain transforms into multi-domain, the integrated internal electric field correspondingly breaks up, inducing that the internal electric field might cancel each other out and diminish the separation of photogenerated carriers. Also, the Au nanoparticles can improve the photocatalytic activity further on account of the surface plasmon resonance. Therefore, it is suggested that Au nanoparticles decorated on ferroelectric BT nanomaterials are promising photocatalysts.

수열합성법으로 제조된 Bi2MoO6에서 로다민 B의 광촉매 분해 반응 (Photocatalytic Decomposition of Rhodamin B over Bi2MoO6 Prepared Using Hydrothermal Process)

  • EGME, GL 및 EG와 물을 용매를 사용하여 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물을 수열합성법으로 성공적으로 합성하였다. 이들 촉매들의 물리적 특성을 XRD, DRS, BET, SEM 및 PL 등으로 분석하였고 제조된 촉매들을 사용하여 가시광선 조사 하에서의 로다민 B의 광분해 반응에서의 활성을 조사하였다. XRD의 분석 결과에 의하면 대부분의 촉매들은 수열합성법에 의해 이 합성조건에서 용매의 종류와 관계없이 Aurivillius 구조를 가진 ${\gamma}-Bi_2MoO_6$의 결정화가 잘 이루어졌으며 12에서 18 nm의 크기를 나타내었다. 또한, 합성온도가 $140^{\circ}C$ 이하에서는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물의 특성피크가 잘 나타나지 않았으나, $160^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물의 특성피크가 잘 나타났다. 모든 촉매들은 자외선 영역부터 470 nm보다 낮은 파장의 가시광 영역에서 강한 흡수스펙트럼을 보여주고 있다. 이 결과는 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 산화물들이 가시광 영역에서도 광촉매 활성을 보여주고 있는 것을 의미한다. EGME를 용매로 사용하여 제조된 $Bi_2MoO_6$ 촉매가 가장 높은 광분해 활성을 나타내었고 $180^{\circ}C$에서 합성된 촉매가 가장 높은 광활성을 보여주었다. 모든 촉매들은 560 nm 부근에서 강하고 넓은 PL 흡수밴드가 나타났으며, 이 피크의 세기가 커질수록 광분해 활성이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다.

Degradation of Volatile Hydrocarbons Using Continuous-Flow Photocatalytic Systems with Enhanced Catalytic Surface Areas

  • Limited information is available on the degradation of volatile hydrocarbons determined via the use of plate-inserted photocatalytic reactors. This has led to the evaluation of surface areas of cylindrical continuous-flow photocatalytic reactors for the degradation of three selected aromatic hydrocarbons. Three types of reactors were prepared: a double cylinder-type, a single cylindrical-type without plates and a single cylindrical-type with inserted glass tubes. According to diffuse reflectance, FTIR and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, the surface characteristics of a coated photocatalyst were very similar to those of raw $TiO_2$, thereby suggesting that the coated photocatalyst exhibited the same photocatalytic activity as the raw $TiO_2$. The photocatalytic degradation efficiencies were significantly or slightly higher for the single cylinder-type reactor than for the double cylinder-type reactor which had a greater catalytic surface area. However, for all target compounds, the degradation efficiencies increased gradually when the number of plates was increased. Accordingly, it was suggested that the surface area being enhanced for the plate-inserted reactor would elevate the photocatalytic degradation efficiency effectively. In addition, this study confirmed that both initial concentrations of target compounds and flow rates were important parameters for the photocatalytic removal mechanism of these plate-inserted photocatalytic reactors.

Developing a Testing Method for Antimicrobial Efficacy on TiO2 Photocatalytic Products

  • $TiO_2$ photocatalyst has been known to exhibit a notable disinfecting activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. A lot of commercial $TiO_2$ photocatalyst products have been developed for antimicrobial purposes. However, a standard method has not yet been proposed for use in testing antimicrobial activity. In this study, we developed a $TiO_2$ photocatalytic adhesion test method with film as the standard testing method for the evaluation of antimicrobial activity. This method was devised by modifying the previous antimicrobial products test method, which has been widely used, and considering the characteristics of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reaction. The apparatus for testing the antimicrobial activity was composed of a Black Light Blue (BLB) lamp as UV-A light source, a Petri dish as the cover material, and a polypropylene film as the adhesion film. The standard $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sample, Degussa P25 $TiO_2$ - coated glass, could only be used once. The optimal initial concentration of the microorganism, proper light intensity, and light irradiation time were determined to be $10^6$ CFU/mL, 1.0 mW/$cm^2$, and 3 hr, respectively, for testing and evaluating antimicrobial activity on the $TiO_2$ surface.

Surface Modification Reaction of Photocatalytic Titanium Dioxide with Triethoxysilane for Improving Dispersibility

  • We have carried out the surface modification of photocatalytic $TiO_2$ with triethoxysilane through dehydrogenation reaction and characterized the modified photocatalyst by spectroscopic methods, such as FT-IR, solid-state $^{29}Si$ MAS NMR, XPS, and XRF, etc. We also examined photocatalytic activity of the immobilized photocatalytic titanium dioxide with triethoxysilane by decolorization reaction of dyes such as cong red and methylene blue under visible light. Dispersion test showed that the photocatalytic titanium dioxide immobilized with triethoxysilane group has kept higher dispersibility than titanium dioxide itself. No appreciable precipitation takes place even after standing for 24 h in the 4:6 mixture ratio of ethanol and water.
