  • Long $TiO_2$ nanotube (NT) arrays, prepared by electrochemical anodization of Ti foils, have been utilized as dye-adsorbing electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). By anodizing for 1-24 hr and subsequent annealing, highly crystallized and tightly-adhered NT arrays were tailored to 11-150 ${\mu}m$ lengths, ~90 nm innerpore diameter and ~30 nm wall thickness. I-V curves revealed that the photovoltaic conversion efficiency (${\eta}$) was proportional to the NT length up to 36 ${\mu}m$. Beyond this length, the ) was proportional to the NT length up to ${\eta}$ was still steadily increased, though at a much lower rate. For example, an ${\eta}$ of 5.05% at 36 ${\mu}m$ was increased to 6.18% at 150 ${\mu}m$. Transient photoelectron spectroscopic analyses indicated that NT array-based DSCs revealed considerably higher electron diffusion coefficient ($D_e$) and life time (${\tau}_e$) than those with $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (NP). Moreover, the electron diffusion lengths ($L_e$) of the photo-injected electrons were considerably larger than the corresponding NT lengths in all the cases, suggesting that electron transport in NT arrays is highly efficient, regardless of tube length.

  • This paper reports the photochemical reduction of benzil 1 to benzoin 2 and the reduction of 2 to hydrobenzoin 4 in deoxygenated solvents in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) and/or TiO2. Without TEA or TiO2, the photolysis of 1 resulted in very low yield of 2. The presence of TEA or TiO2 increased the rate of disappearance of 1 and the yield of 2, which were further increased considerably by the presence of water. The photoreduction of 1 to 2 proceeds through an electron transfer to 1 from TEA or hole-scavenged excited TiO2 followed by protonation. In the reaction medium of 88 : 7 : 2 : 3 CH3CN/CH3OH/H2O/TEA with 2.5 $㎎/m{\ell}$ of TiO2, the yield of 2 was as high as 85 % at 50 % conversion of 1. The photolysis of 2 in homogeneous media resulted in photo-cleavage to benzoyl and hydroxybenzyl radicals, which are mostly converted to benzaldehyde. The reduction product 4 is formed in low yield through the dimerization of hydroxybenzyl radicals. The addition of TEA increased the conversion rate of 2 and the yield of 4 significantly. This was attributed to the scavenging effect of TEA for benzoyl radical to produce N,N-diethylbenzamide and the photoreduction of benzaldehyde in the presence of TEA. The ratio of $(\pm)$ and meso isomers of 4 obtained from the photochemical reaction is about 1.1. This ratio is the same as that from the photochemical reduction of benzaldehyde in the presence of TEA. In the TiO2-sensitized photochemical reduction of 2, meso-4 was obtained in moderate yield. The reduction of 2 to 4 proceeds through two consecutive electron/proton transfer processes on the surface of the photocatalyst without involvement of ${\alpha}-cleavage$. The radical 11 initially formed from 2 by one electron/proton process can also combine with hydroxy methyl radical, which is generated after hole trapping of excited TiO2 by methanol, to produce 1,2-diphenylpropenone after dehydration reaction.

  • There was much previous work to represent effects which are used in the real world paintings. In case of Western paintings like as watercolor or oil painting, largely conversion techniques from photo images were researched. However, in case of Oriental paintings, the development of a conversion technique is not easy because a few strokes are used to represent objects. Then, model-based approach was studied to draw Oriental paintings. In this paper, a model-based approach for Oriental paintings is described. In our model, to represent the diffusion effects, LEM(Local Equilibrium Model) is proposed. LEM is a method to calculate the movement of water and ink effectively. Also, a layer model for paper is proposed to discriminate wet or dry state. And a brush model to draw strokes is described.

  • There are being two prominent studying for Digital Radiography. Direct and Indirect method of Digital Radiography are announced for producing high quality digital image. The one is using amorphous selenium as photoconductor and the other is using phosphor layer as a light conversion. But each two systems have strength and weakness such as high voltage and blurring effect. In this study, we investigated the electrical characteristic of $multi-layer\left(CaWO_{4}+a-Se \right)$ as a photoconductor according to the changing arsenic composition ratio. This is a basic research for developing of Hybrid digital radiography which is a new type X-ray detector. The arsenic composition ratio of a-Se compound is classified into 7 different kinds which have 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 5%, 10% and were made test sample throught thermo-evaporation. The phosphor layer of $CaWO_4$ was overlapped on a-Se using EFIRON optical adhesives. We measured the dark and photo current about the test sample and compared the electrical characteristic of the net charge and signal-to-noise ratio. Among other things, test sample of compound material of 0.3% arsenic showed good characteristic of $2.45nA/cm^2$ dark current and $357.19pC/cm^2/mR$ net charge at $3V/{\mu}m$.

  • Light trapping techniques can change the propagation direction of incident light and keep the light longer in the absorption layers of solar cells to enhance the power conversion efficiency. In thin film silicon (Si) solar cells, the thickness of absorption layer is generally not enough to absorb entire available photons because of short carrier life time, and light induced degradation effect, which can be compensated by the light trapping techniques. These techniques have been adopted as textured transparent conduction oxide (TCO) layers randomly or periodically textured, intermediate reflection layers of tandem and triple junction, and glass substrates etched by various patterning methods. We reviewed the light trapping techniques for thin film Si solar cells and mainly focused on the commercially available techniques applicable to textured TCO on patterned glass substrates. We described the characterization methods representing the light trapping effects, texturing of TCO and showed the results of multi-scale textured TCO on etched glass substrates. These methods can be used tandem and triple thin film Si solar cells to enhance photo-current and power conversion efficiency of long term stability.

  • A layer of $TiO_2$ thin film less than ~200nm in thickness, as a blocking layer, was deposited by 13.56 MHz radio frequency magnetron sputtering method directly onto the anode electrode to be isolated from the electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). This is to prevent the electrons from back-transferring from the electrode to the electrolyte ($I^-/{I_3}^-$). The presented DSCs were fabricated with working electrode of F:$SnO_2$(FTO) glass coated with blocking $TiO_2$ layer, dye-attached nanoporous $TiO_2$ layer, gel electrolyte and counter electrode of Pt-deposited FTO glass. The effects of blocking layer were studied with respect to impedance and conversion efficiency of the cells. The, electrochemical impedances of DSCs using this electrode were $R_1$: 13.9, $R_2$: 15.0, $R_3$: 10.9 and $R_h$: $82{\Omega}$. The $R_2$ impedance related by electron movement from nanoporous $TiO_2$ to TCO showed lower than that of normal DSCs. The photo-conversion efficiency of prepared DSCs was 5.97% ($V_{oc}$: 0.75V, $J_{sc}$: 10.5 mA/$cm^2$, ff: 0.75) and approximately 1% higher than general DSCs sample.

  • We present a technique for fabricating low leakage organic field-effect transistors by a functional polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) layer. The technique relies on the photo-chemical process of conversion of the PDMS to a silicon oxide which provides the selective growth of pentacene thin films. The reduced gate leakage current showed ${\sim}10^{-10}$ A in a linear ($V_d=-5\;V$) and saturation ($V_d=-30\;V$) region at $V_g-V_t>0$.

  • Novel a-Si solar cells with delta-doped(${\delta}x$-doped) P-layer have been fabricated to enhance the hole concentration of the P-layers. The ${\delta}-$doped P-layer consists of very thin B sheets of 0.1-0.5 atomic layers and undoped a-SiC multi-layers. B-layers were prepared by photo-CVD and pyrolysis technique. The structural, optical and electrical characteristics of the delta-doped P-layer films were evaluated by means of FTIR, AES and SIMS. As the results of this study, it was found that the ${\delta}$-doped P-layer showed much superior optical and electrical characteristics than those of conventional uniformly B-doped a-Si layers. 12.5% energy conversion efficiency was achieved for the Cell with ${\delta}$-doped P-layer.

  • Ion-coordinating ruthenium complexes [cis-Ru(dcbpy)(L)(NCS)$_2$, where dcbpy is 4,4'-dicarboxylic acid-2,2'-bipyridine and L is 1,4,7,10-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecane, JK-121, or bis(2-(2-methoxy-ethoxy)ethyl) amine, JK-122] have been synthesized and characterized using $^1H$ NMR, Fourier transform IR, UV/vis spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The effect of $Li^+$ in the electrolyte on the photovoltaic performance was investigated. With the stepwise addition of $Li^+$ to a liquid electrolyte, the device shows significant increase in the photo-current density, but a small decrease in the open circuit voltage. The solar cell with a hole conductor, the addition of $Li^+$ resulted in a 30% improvement in efficiency. The JK-121 sensitized cells in the liquid and solid-state electrolyte give power conversion efficiencies of 6.95% and 2.59%, respectively, under the simulated sunlight.

  • Recently, due to its better photosensitivity in X-ray, the amorphous selenium based photoreceptor is used on digital direct method conversion material. Compared to other photoconductive material, amorphous selenium has good X-ray response characteristic and low leakage current. It has many parameters of detecting X-ray response on selenium. Among of them, it is well known that manufacture of a-Se is the most basic element. In this paper, we fabricated two types of amorphous selenium sample which had time variable. The one was fabricated continuous deposition sample and the other was step by step sample. Thickness of sample was $300{\mu}m$ and top electrode was evaporated gold. We investigated the leakage current and photo current of them and analysed their electrical characteristics. For analyzing morphology of samples, SEM and surface was pictured. We found that step by step deposition method could be applied for novel fabricating amorphous selenium film.
