In this study, we employ the control patches, which have been created in previous photogrammetric projects, serving for the candidates of the control points that are likely to be found in the newly taken photos by utilizing image matching technique. Among others, the successful implementation of the above idea lies in the underlying factors: (1). Predicting the control patches and projecting them onto new photos; (2). Alignment of control patches with respect to the new photos; (3). Generating the equivalent ground elements of control patches versus the new photos for the purpose of correlation; (4). Developing effective matching methods and matching strategy; (5). Refining the exterior orientation parameters. What may show significance in this work comparing to traditional aerial-triangulation chain is that whenever at least three matched control patches succeed in a single photo, it follows that single photo orientation is applicable. The experiments suggest the potential efficiency of automatic control point measurement from control patch database and photo orientation by the proposed workflow.
The purpose of this study is to describe 3-Dimensional technique to obtain spatial information automatically using PhotoModeler Pro. PhotoModeler Pro is excellent software with the three-dimensional measurement function used by a personal computer using Windows operating system However, it is not sufficient to carry out the automatic matching work with two stereo images. This is very large neck as a 3-D measurement software. In this study, the automatic stereo matching work using the self-making program and DDE interface within PhotoModeler Pro was tried. The experiment field is the hillside and stair zone of Tateyama region, Nagasaki City. The results of automatic stereo matching work were very good with $100\%$ hitting ratio of target.

This study is for analyzing best band in image matching using correlation coefficient of left and right images of stereo image pair, lot red, green, blue band images separated from color aerial photo and gray image converted from the same color aerial photo image. The image matching is applied to construct Digital Elevation Model(DEM) or terrain data. The correlation coefficients and variation by change of pixel patch size are computed from pixel patches of which sizes are $11{\times}11{\sim}101{\times}101$. Consequently, the correlation coefficient in red band image is highest. The lowest is in blue band. Therefore, to construct terrain data using image matching, the red band image is preferable. As the size of pixel patch is growing, the correlation coefficient is increasing. But increasing rate declines from $51{\times}51$ image patch size and above. It is proved that the smaller pixel patch size than $51{\times}51$ is applied to construct terrain data using image matching.
Due to the popular use of digital camera, a great number of photos are taken at every usage of camera. It is essential to reveal relationship between photos to manage digital photos efficiently. We propose a method that tessellates image into unit blocks and applies 2D alignment to extend content-based similar region from seed block pair having high similarity. Through an alignment, we can get a block region scoring best matching value on whole image. The method can distinguish whether photos are sharing the same object or background. Our result is less sensitive to transition or pause change of objects. In experiment, we show how our alignment method is applied to real photo and necessities for further research like photo clustering and massive photo management.

Mosaic is to make a big image by gathering lots of small materials having various colors. With advance of digital imaging techniques, photomosaic techniques using photos are widely used. In this paper, we presents an automatic photomosaic algorithm based on adaptive tiling and block matching. The proposed algorithm is composed of two processes: photo database generation and photomosaic generation. Photo database is a set of photos (or tiles) used for mosaic, where a tile is divided into $4{\times}4$ regions and the average RGB value of each region is the feature of the tile. Photomosaic generation is composed of 4 steps: feature extraction, adaptive tiling, block matching, and intensity adjustment. In feature extraction, the feature of each block is calculated after the image is splitted into the preset size of blocks. In adaptive tiling, the blocks having similar similarities are merged. Then, the blocks are compared with tiles in photo database by comparing euclidean distance as a similarity measure in block matching. Finally, in intensity adjustment, the intensity of the matched tile is replaced as that of the block to increase the similarity between the tile and the block. Also, a tile redundancy minimization scheme of adjacent blocks is applied to enhance the quality of mosaic photos. In comparison with Andrea mosaic software, the proposed algorithm outperforms in quantitative and qualitative analysis.

We present a new hybrid stereo matching technique in terms of the co-operation of area-based stereo and feature-based stereo. The core of our technique is that feature matching is carried out by the reference of the disparity evaluated by area-based stereo. Since the reference of the disparity can significantly reduce the number of feature matching combinations, feature matching error can be drastically minimized. One requirement of the disparity to be referenced is that it should be reliable to be used in feature matching. To measure the reliability of the disparity, in this paper, we employ the self-consistency of the disunity Our suggested technique is applied to the detection of 3D line segments by 2D line matching using our hybrid stereo matching, which can be efficiently utilized in the generation of the rooftop model from urban imagery. We carry out the experiments on our hybrid stereo matching scheme. We generate synthetic images by photo-realistic simulation on Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images. Experimental results indicate that the extracted 3D line segments have an average error of 0.5m and verify our proposed scheme. In order to apply our method to the generation of 3D model in urban imagery, we carry out Preliminary experiments for rooftop generation. Since occlusions are occurred around the outlines of buildings, we experimentally suggested multi-image hybrid stereo system, based on the fusion of 3D line segments. In terms of the simple domain-specific 3D grouping scheme, we notice that an accurate 3D rooftop model can be generated. In this context, we expect that an extended 3D grouping scheme using our hybrid technique can be efficiently applied to the construction of 3D models with more general types of building rooftops.

Recently various thematic maps and image maps using aerial photograph and satellite imagery are frequently made. The geo-referencing is essential to make image map and topographic map using aerial photograph and satellite imagery. For this geo-referencing, Ground Control Points (GCPs) are needed. In this paper, we used GPS relative positioning to measure GCP ground coordinate and the accuracy of 8cm level was achieved. We made GCP image chips for the efficiency of geo-referencing and carried out the bundle adjustment of aerial photographs using GCP image chips to acquire the GCP photo coordinate with image matching technique. Finally we analyzed the accuracy of bundle adjustment compared to the accuracy of the case in using digital maps to acquire GCP photo coordinate.
A photogrammetric camera system and a software have been built for capturing planned stereo images. To evaluate the system,25 planar data from a constructed rock slope were measured using both geological compass and photo system. Comparison of the data groups from both system showed matching relationship that falls within the error range of $5.25\pm4.53$ in strike and $3.18\pm3.17$ in dip angles, when the 2 standard deviation error distributions were considered. To evaluate the errors of the Photo matching and non planarity of the surface, orientations of the same plane were repeatedly measured 20times. These measurements showed error ranges of $8.2\pm3.4$in strike and $6.6\pm3.4$ in dip angle, considering the same error distributions. Measured strikes and dips were compared with the corresponding compass measurements in 5 constructed. slopes to test the system. Stereonet plots showed that the photo system measured data coincided well with the compass measurements. With these evaluations, the photo system can measure the planar structure in inaccessible locations with reliable accuracy at the same time reducing the data gathering period therefore resulting to an efficient geological survey.

In the ultrasonic dispersion, in order to avoid direct contact of the radiation surface of ultrasonic transducers with a liquid sample, the liquid sample is separated by a glass container and it receives ultrasonic energy through an acoustic medium. The transmission efficiency of the ultrasonic energy in the multi-layered ultrasonic system is an important factor. In this study, we suggested a method that can improve the ultrasonic energy transfer efficiency by using a propylene glycol solution as a liquid matching layer in the multi-layered acoustic system. In this method, a propylene glycol solution was filled between the Langevin-type ultrasonic transducer and the luminol solution and the sonoluminescence phenomena in the luminol solution, which is caused by nonlinear effect of high power ultrasound radiated from the transducer, was examined by using a Photo Multiplier Tube (PMT). The transmission efficiency depending on the concentration of propylene glycol solution was observed, and we can see that as the concentration of the propylene glycol solution increased, the matching effect increased while the acoustic attenuation increased. It was confirmed that there is an optimal concentration compromised these two conflicting conditions, and the optimum concentration of the propylene glycol solution was determined experimentally.

Knowledge of abundance, or population size, is fundamental in wildlife conservation and management. Camera-trapping, in combination with capture-recapture methods, has been extensively applied to estimate abundance and density of individually identifiable animals due to the advantages of being non-invasive, effective to survey wide-ranging, elusive, or nocturnal species, operating in inhospitable environment, and taking low labor. We assessed the possibility of using coat patterns from images to identify an individual leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis), a Class II endangered species in South Korea. We analyzed leopard cat images taken from Digital Single-Lense Relfex camera (high resolution, 18Mpxl) and camera traps (low resolution, 3.1Mpxl) using HotSpotter, an image matching algorithm. HotSpotter accurately top-ranked an image of the same individual leopard cat with the reference leopard cat image 100% by matching facial and ventral parts. This confirms that facial and ventral fur patterns of the Amur leopard cat are good matching points to be used reliably to identify an individual. We anticipate that the study results will be useful to researchers interested in studying behavior or population parameter estimates of Amur leopard cats based on capture-recapture models.
