반응성 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법을 이용하여 MgO 기판위에 증착한 TiO2 박막의 구조와 광촉매 특성 (Structure and Photo-catalytic Activity of TiO2 Films Deposited by Reactive RF Magnetron Sputtering)

  • Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) films were deposited by RF reactive magnetron sputtering on non-alkali glass and single crystal MgO (100) substrate at substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$. Micro structures of $TiO_2$ films were investigated by XRD, FE-SEM, and Pole figure measurements. $TiO_2$ films deposited on glass substrate showed preferred orientation of anatase (101), whereas $TiO_2$ films deposited on the MgO single crystal substrate showed hetero-epitaxial anatase (100). $TiO_2$ film grown on MgO substrate showed higher photoctalytic activity than that of glass substrate.

  • In order to give pulp surfaces anti-bacterial functionality and photo-catalytic deodorant ability, functional pulps was made using a surface modification method with Ag nano-colloidal solution and $TiO_2$ filler. Hygiene paper was made with the specially modified pulp, and anti-bacterial and deodorant tests were carried out. The Ag nano-colloidal solution was coated on the surface of the pulp using the high pressurized gas phase squirt through the spray nozzle mounted on the hybridization system. The surface modified functional pulp was hybridized with the optimum ratio of $TiO_2$(fine particle) to pulp(core particle) under the condition of $6,000{\sim}10,000$ rpm for $3{\sim}7$ minutes in the system. The anti-bacterial functionality of the hygiene paper was confirmed by the halo test in which the formation of the clear zone around the hygiene paper sample was observed. The inhibition growth test using MIC bioscreen C showed the inhibition growth effect of the bacteria as the reaction time was increased. The photo-catalytic effect measurement of the $TiO_2$ for 4 hours of the reaction showed $50{\sim}60%$ of decomposition rate, reaching over 60% for 5 hours of the reaction.

  • Nano-technology is a super microscopic technology to deal with structures of 100 nm or smaller. This technology also involves the developing of $TiO_2$ materials or $TiO_2$ devices within that size. The aim of the present paper is to synthesize $WO_x$ doped nano-$TiO_2$ by the Sonochemistry method and to evaluate the effect of different percentages (0.5-5 wt%) of tungsten oxide load on $TiO_2$ in methylene blue (MB) elimination. The samples were characterized using such different techniques as X-ray diffraction (XRD), TEM, SEM, and UV-VIS absorption spectra. The photo-catalytic activity of tungsten oxide doped $TiO_2$ was evaluated through the elimination of methylene blue using UV-irradiation (315-400nm). The best result was found with 5 wt% $WO_x$ doped $TiO_2$. It has been confirmed that $WO_x-TiO_2$ could be excited by visible light (E<3.2 eV) and that the recombination rate of electrons/holes in $WO_x-TiO_2$ declined due to the existence of $WO_x$ doped in $TiO_2$.

  • We have investigated the excitation-light source dependence of photo-catalytic efficiency for the benzene removal. The photo-catalytic module for the benzene removal is fabricated by a combination of GaN-based ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV GaN-LED) and $TiO_2$ thin film coated on an aluminum plate. The benzene reduction rates of 365 nm and 375 nm modules at 60 mA junction current are approximately $8.95\;\%/Hr$ and $9.2\;\%/Hr$, respectively, which indicates that 365 nm GaN-LED is more effective than 375 nm GaN-LED. The benzene reduction efficiency is also noticeably dependent on the excitation wavelength and excitation-light power, as well as it is increased with the shorter wavelength and higher excitation power. This result exhibits that UV GaN-LED is useful to remove the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) existing in the environment.

졸-겔법에 의한 나노크기 Au 미립자 분산 TiO2 박막의 특성 (Characteristics of Nano-Size Au Fine Particles Doped TiO2 Thin Films by Sol-Gel Method)

  • Nano-size Au particle doped $TiO_2$ films were prepared with $Ti(OC_3H_7^i)_4$, polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP), $HAuCl_4$ and $C_3H_7OH$ etc. by sol-gel method. $TiO_2$ gel films were obtained by the dip-coating method on the $SiO_2$ glass substrates, and then heat-treated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The thickness of $TiO_2$ films were $0.7\~1.8\;{\mu}m$. It was found that the thickness of films prepared from PVP containing solution was about $2\~8$ times higher values than that of thin films without PVP. The size of Au particles doped in the films were about $350\~750\;nm$. Nano-size Au particle dispersed $TiO_2$ films showed high absorption peak at visible region 450nm, which made them good candidates for non-linear optical materials and photo-catalytic materials. The contact angle of $TiO_2$ film for water was $12.5^{\circ}$, and therefore it is clear that $TiO_2$ films have very high hydrophilic properties and the self-cleaning effects.

Magnetic and Photo-catalytic Properties of Nanocrystalline Fe Doped $TiO_2$ Powder Synthesized by Mechanical Alloying

  • Fe-doped $TiO_2$ nanopowders were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) varying Fe contents up to 8.0 wt.%. The UV-vis absorption showed that the UV absorption for the Fe-doped powder shifted to a longer wavelength (red shift). The absorption threshold depends on the concentration of nano-size Fe dopant. As the Fe concentration increased up to 4 wt.%, the UV-vis absorption and the magnetization were increased. The benefical effect of Fe doping for photocatalysis and ferromagnetism had the critical dopant concentration of 4 wt.%. Based on the UV absorption and magnetization, the dopant level is localized to the valence band of $TiO_2$.

Photo-catalytic Properties of Nanotubes Synthesized using TiO2 Nanoparticles

  • Up to now, microstructure changes of photocatalysts have been studied to improve photocatalytic activity. Especially, to improve the adsorption of reactants and reactive sites, porous and fine crystal structures have received much attention because of their large specific surface area. In this study, $TiO_2$ nanotubes were synthesized by hydrothermal method using $TiO_2$ nanoparticles; nanotubes were evaluated by oxidized methylene blue reduction test. Using synthesized $TiO_2$ nanotubes, results of TEM showed that the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were changed into folding sheets and nanotubes. XRD results showed that the peaks of the nanoparticles almost disappeared and only the rutile (110) and anatase (200) peaks were observed. Comparison of photocatalytic properties of nanoparticles and nanotube structures was performed by measuring the UV-vis absorbance with reducing oxidized methylene blue. As a result, the reduction rate of nanotubes was found to be $0.24{\mu}mol/s$, which was 2.6 times higher than the rate of reduction of nanoparticles.

  • $TiOSO_4$와 다층벽탄소나노튜브(MWCNT)를 사용하여 가수분해법으로 CNT-$TiO_{2}$ 나노복합체를 제조하였다. 제조된 $TiO_{2}$-CNT 복합체의 CNT는 아나타제 $TiO_{2}$에 균일하게 분산되어 있으며 MWCNT의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 결정성 탄소의 비율과 O/Ti 비율이 증가함을 확인할 수 있다. CNT-$TiO_{2}$복합체의 광활성 및 오염물 흡착능력을 UV 조사 시간에 따른 메틸렌블루의 분해정도로 확인하였다. MWCNT의 비율이 높아질수록 높은 흡착능과 광분해능을 나타내었다. 이는 MWCNT의 높은 비표면적, 산소포함 관능기, 낮은 밴드갭 에너지, 높은 전기전도성, 높은 부피 대 표면적 비율, 균일한 구조 및 특성으로 인하여 CNT-$TiO_{2}$ 복합체의 광활성에 도움을 주는 것으로 보인다.

  • Sol-gel method로 합성한 anatase상의 $TiO_2$와 Yb와 Er을 codoping한 $TiO_2:Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ 파우더의 열적안정성과 이에 따른 광촉매 특성의 변화를 비교하였다. XRD 분석을 통하여 $TiO_2$ 결정성 및 상변화에 $Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ ions이 미치는 영향을 온도에 따라 비교하였으며 anatase $TiO_2$와 rutile $TiO_2$의 광학적 성질을 UV-Vis을 통하여 비교하였다. UV-Vis 분석결과 anatase $TiO_2:Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ ions도핑에 의하여 $TiO_2$의 밴드갭이 미세하게 감소함을 확인하였고 이를 통해 광촉매 작용을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다. $Yb^{3+}$ 이온과 $Er^{3+}$ 이온이 도핑된 $TiO_2:Yb^{3+},\;Er^{3+}$ 파우더를 980 nm에서 PL 분석하여 녹색 및 적색 형광을 하는 up-converting 형광특성을 분석하였다.

  • As part of fundamental studies on the degradation of the organic compounds in industrial waste water, the photocatalytic degradation properties of the organic compound by means of the UV/TiO$_2$degradation process have been investigated. The test organic compound of acetic acid was chosen in this study. The testing of photo catalytic degradation were performed under various operation conditions such as TiO$_2$dosages, initial concentration of the organic, the aqueous pH's, etc. The effects of various parameters on the short time activity of the present acetic acid-UV/TiO$_2$system could be demonstrated from this investigation.
