A novel approach to the manufacture of biocompatible ceramic scaffold for tissue engineering using micro-stereolithography system is introduced. Micro-stereolithography is a newly proposed technology that enables to make a 3D micro structure. The 3D micro structures made by this technology can have accurate and complex shape within a few micron error. Therefore, the application based on this technology can vary greatly in nano-bio fields. Recently, tissue-engineering techniques have been regarded as alternative candidate to treat patients with serious bone defects. So many techniques to design and fabricate 3D scaffolds have been developed. But the imperfection of scaffold such as random pore size and porosity causes a limitation in developing optimum scaffold. So scaffold development with controllable pore size and fully interconnected shape have been needed for a more progress in tissue engineering. In this paper, bone scaffold was developed by applying the micro-stereolithography to the mold technology. The scaffold material used was HA(Hydroxyapatite) nano powder. HA is a type of calcium phosphate ceramic with similar characteristic to human inorganic bone component. The bone scaffold made by HA is expected, in the near future, to be an efficient therapy for bone defect.
PURPOSES : This study aims to develop a repair material that can enhance pavement performance, inducing rapid traffic opening through early strength development and fast setting time by utilizing MgO-based patching materials for repairing road pavements. METHODS : To consider the applicability of MgO-based patching materials for repairing domestic road pavements, first, strength development and setting time of the materials were evaluated, based on MgO to $KH_2PO_4$ ratio, water to binder ratio, and addition ratio of retarder (Borax), by which the optimal mixture ratio of the developed material was obtained. To validate the performance of the developed material as a repair material, the strength(compressive strength and bonding strength) and durability (freezing, thawing, and chloride ion penetration resistance) was checked through testing, and its applicability was evaluated. RESULTS : The results showed that when an MgO-based patching material was used, the condensation time was reduced by 80%, and the compressive strength was enhanced by approximately 300%, as compared to existing cement-based repair materials. In addition, it was observed that the strength (compressive strength and bonding strength) and durability (freezing and thawing, and chloride ion penetration resistance) showed an excellent performance that satisfied the regulations. CONCLUSIONS : The results imply that an emergent repair/restoration could be covered by a rapid-hardening cement to meet the traffic limitation (i.e. the traffic restriction is only several hours for repair treatment). Furthermore, MgO-based patching materials can improve bonding strength and durability compared to existing repair materials.
ANODE-free Li-metal batteries (AFLMBs) operating with Li of cathode material have attracted enormous attention due to their exceptional energy density originating from anode-free structure in the confined cell volume. However, uncontrolled dendritic growth of lithium on a copper current collector can limit its practical application as it causes fatal issues for stable cycling such as dead Li formation, unstable solid electrolyte interphase, electrolyte exhaustion, and internal short-circuit. To overcome this limitation, here, we report a novel dual-salt electrolyte comprising of 0.2 M LiPF6 + 3.8 M lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide in a carbonate/ester co-solvent with 5 wt% fluoroethylene carbonate, 2 wt% vinylene carbonate, and 0.2 wt% LiNO3 additives. Because the dual-salt electrolyte facilitates uniform/dense Li deposition on the current collector and can form robust/ionic conductive LiF-based SEI layer on the deposited Li, a Li/Li symmetrical cell exhibits improved cycling performance and low polarization for over 200 h operation. Furthermore, the anode-free LiFePO4/Cu cells in the carbonate electrolyte shows significantly enhanced cycling stability compared to the counterparts consisting of different salt ratios. This study shows an importance of electrolyte design guiding uniform Li deposition and forming stable SEI layer for AFLMBs.

Colletotrichum acutatum species complex is one of the most important groups in the genus Colletotrichum with a high species diversity and a wide range of host plants. C. acutatum and related species have been collected from different plants and locations in Korea and deposited into the Korean Agricultural Culture Collection (KACC), National Institute of Agricultural Sciences since the 1990s. These fungal isolates were previously identified based mainly on morphological characteristics, and a limitation of molecular data was provided. To confirm the identification of species, 64 C. acutatum species complex isolates in KACC were used in this study for DNA sequence analyses of six loci: nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacers (ITS), betatubulin 2 (TUB2), histone-3 (HIS3), glyceraldehyde3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), chitin synthase 1 (CHS-1), and actin (ACT). The molecular analysis revealed that they were identified in six different species of C. fioriniae (24 isolates), C. nymphaeae (21 isolates), C. scovillei (12 isolates), C. chrysanthemi (three isolates), C. lupini (two isolates), and C. godetiae (one isolate), and a novel species candidate. We compared the hosts of KACC isolates with "The List of Plant Diseases in Korea", previous reports in Korea and global reports and found that 23 combinations between hosts and pathogens could be newly reported in Korea after pathogenicity tests, and 12 of these have not been recorded in the world.
Temporal and spatial variations of primary productivity were investigated in the estuary of Youngsan River and Mokpo coastal areas in 2009. After heavy rain, concentrations of ammonium, phosphate, and silicate increased at six stations in August. The torrential rainfall may cause an increase in nutrient concentrations during summer. There is no limitation of nutrients (except for February at the mid-Youngsan estuarine region YS2) but a potential phosphate limitation was apparent at all stations. Silicate depletion was observed at YS2 in February due to a massive diatom bloom. The trophic status of the Youngsan estuary and Mokpo coastal areas were inferred from an assessment of the primary productivity. In February and May, YS1 (upper Youngsan estuary site) and YS2, YS3 (near the Youngsan river estuary barrage), MP1 (upper Mokpo coastal region site) were appropriately assigned to the mesotrophic category. MP2 (mid-Mokpo coastal region site) and MP3 (outer site of Mokpo coastal region) were assigned to the oligotrophic category. All stations were classified to the oligotrophic status in November. In August, after heavy rain, Youngsan estuary stations maintained mesotrophic status. On the other hand, MP1 and MP2 were classified in the eutrophic category and MP3 to mesotrophic status. In particular, primary productivities of MP1 and MP2 were 9 and 7 times higher respectively than the standard of eutrophic status ($1,000-mgC\;m^{-2}d^{-1}$). These results suggest that a massive freshwater discharge from the Youngsan River estuary should be considered a main factor in the occurrence of phytoplankton bloom in Mokpo coastal areas during summer. Seasonal variations of primary productivity are closely related with depth-integrated Chl. a.

In this study, changes in the microbial ecosystem of the Yeongheungdo island coastal waters were investigated for five years to collect basic data. To evaluate the influence of distance from the coast on the microbial ecosystem, four sites, coastal Site (S1) and 0.75, 1.5, and 3 km away from the coast, were set up and the changes in physicochemical and biological factors were monitored. The results showed seasonal changes in water temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH but with no significant differences between sites. For nutrients, the concentration of dissolved inorganic nitrogen increased from 6.4 μM in April-June to 16.4 μM in July-November, while that of phosphorus and silicon phosphate increased from 0.4 μM and 2.5 μM in April-June to 1.1 μM and 12.0 μM in July-November, respectively. Notably, phosphorus phosphate concentrations were lower in 2014-2015 (up to 0.2 μM) compared to 2016-2018 (up to 2.2 μM), indicating phosphorus limitation during this period. However, there were no differences in nutrients with distance from the coast, indicating that there was no effect of distance on nutrients. Phytoplankton (average 511 cells mL-1) showed relatively high biomass (up to 3,370 cells mL-1) in 2014-2015 when phosphorus phosphate was limited. Notably, at that time, the concentration of dissolved organic carbon was not high, with concentrations ranging from 1.1-2.3 mg L-1. However, no significant differences in biological factors were observed between the sites. Although this study revealed that there was no disturbance of the ecosystem, further research and more basic data on the microecosystem are necessary to understand the ecosystem of the Incheon.
Jeju island has high potential productivity of livestock in terms of climate, geography, and economic prospect. Grass-land is now widespread and increasing rapidly year after year. However, the productivity of grass land is very low compared with that of main land. It is supposed that the low productivity is due to improper chemical properties of volcanic ash soil which is mostly distributed in the island. Volcanic ash soil, which have high alumina ratio, is characterized by the lack of bases and avilable phosphorous while its phosphorous fixation capacity is very high. In addition to poor chemical properties, low level of fertilization technique appears to be another limitation to grass production. Farmers have not given care to improve their soil to be suitable for grass cultivation. In order to increase the productivity of grassland in Jeju, the proper amounts of N, P, and K fertilizer should be applied following the improvements of poor chemical properties such as liming and a great deal of phosphorous increment, using mainly fused phosphate, based upon the balance of bases, and the application of organic matter and micro-elements which can be easily deficient in soil.

This review summarizes advantage and limitation in infrared spectroscopy and computational chemistry to understand rhizospheric interaction among organic acids, oxyanions and metal oxides. Since organic acids and metal oxides determine dynamics of oxyanions in the soil environment, knowledge of fundamental mechanisms is a prerequisite for understanding the interactions at soil-water interface. Attenuated total reflectance-fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) is a powerful tool to measure the interfacial reactions. However, the ATR-FTIR measurements are abstruse, because the optical characteristics for measurements are variable depending on the experimental setup. In addition, spectral overlapping is a primary obstacle to the analysis of the interfacial reaction; thus, it is essential to detect and to deconvolute bands for signal interpretation. In this review, we expained the fundamental principle for spectrum processing, and four band identification methods, such as derivative spectroscopy, two-dimension correlation spectroscopy, multivariate curve resolution, and computational chemistry with example of aqueous phosphate speciation. As a result, spectrum processing and computational chemistry improved interpretation and spectral deconvolution of overlapped spectra in relatively simple systems, but it was still unsatisfactory for the problems in more complexed system like nature. Nevertheless, we believed that our challenge would contribute practically to develop adequate analytical procedure, signal processing and protocols that could help to improve interpretation and to understand the interfacial interactions of oxyanions in natural systems.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biocompatibility and the biorsorbability of several types of calcium polyphosphate made through change of manufacturing process for 12 month. To solve limitation of calcium phosphate, we developed a new ceramic, Calcium Polyphosphate(CPP), and report the biologic response to CPP in extraction sites of beagle dog. Porous CPP blocks were prepared by condensation of anhydrous $Ca(H_2PO_4)_2$ to form non-crystalline $Ca(PO_3)_2$ and then milled to produce CPP powder. CPP powder, CPP block, and CPP granules added with $Na_2O$ were implanted in extraction sockets and histologic observation were performed at 12 months later. Like 3 months results, histologic observation at 12 months revealed that CPP matrix were mingled with and directly apposed to new bone without any adverse tissue reaction, CPP powder show direct bony contact, but new bone formation and fibrous tissue encapsulation showed in CPP block. 10% $Na_2O$ CPP granules show more inflammatory cells infiltration around graft materials compared at 3 month, but 15% $Na_2O$ CPP granules show less. This result revealed that regardless of addition of $Na_2O$, CPP had a high affinity for bone and had been resorbed slowly. From this results, it was suggested that CPP is promising ceramic as a bone substitute and addition of $Na_2O$ help biodegradation but optimal concentration of $Na_2O$ and other additive component to increase degradation rate should be determined in further study.
The aim of this in vitro study was to analyze the composition of human tooth enamel in terms of three components, Ca, P, and F after demineralization and remineralization in acid buffer solution. A total of 8 human premolars without any defects and cracks were selected and buccal and lingual sides of the teeth were cleaned with an ultrasonic device and pumice without fluoride 5$\times$5mm windows were opened, and other areas were completely covered with 3-coats of nail varnish to prevent from being in contact with demineralized and remineralized solutions. After demineralization process, each tooth was sectioned into two slices, highly polished one of them with$\gamma$-alumina, and then analyzed the composition of the demineralized tooth with EPMA(electron probe micro-analyzer). The other slices were put into the remineralized solution for 10 days, polished, and analyzed in the same manner. These data were statistically analyzed with one sample t-test(p<0.05). The results were as follows. 1. Normal tooth enamel consists of 49.76% Ca, 39.80% P, and 0.28% F. 2. After demineralization, percentage of Ca and P ratio were decreased by about 5.57 and 5.07% respectively. Percentage of F ratio was also decreased by about 0.01%, which was not statistically significant. 3. After remineralization, percentage of Ca, P increased about by 4.47 and 4.35% respectively Percentage of F decreased by about 0.01%, which was not statistically significant. In conclusion, remineralized solution used in our study has the potential to induce the uptake the Ca and P into the pore sites of the demineralized enamel. But, in the oral cavity. there were rapid temperature change, organic matrix that inhibits the movement of the ions, and limitation of continuous contact with this remineralized solution. Therefore, further in vivo study is necessary.
