  • A study was made on the synthesis of a carbonate base nitrogen-free deliming agent using a non-phosgene compound applicable to the deliming process, which is one of the biggest sources of pollutant increasing the T-N concentration in the effluent from the leather making processes. And also studied on the possibility of using the agent in the deliming process. Through measurement of T-N, BOD, COD and SS in the effluent after the agent is used, contents of Ca and Cr and TS in the leather after the deliming process were measured, by which deliming efficiency, influences to the physical properties of the chromium tanned leather and reducing effects of T-N, BOD, COD and SS concentrations in the effluent could be confirmed. Thus an eco-friendly study has been conducted.

  • 3-Chloro-2-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole, which is the key intermediate of cyclic imide type compounds such as EK 5439 and S-275 series, were practically synthesized by the procedure of hydrolysis of by-products and were produced in the reaction of 2-(2-fluoro-4-chloro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3a,4,5,6,7-hexahydroindazol-3-one with phosgene.

  • Gas phase photocatalytic oxidation of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) under 370 nm ultra-violet irradiation was investigated with TiO$_2$ catalyst. During the photocatalytic oxidation of PCE vapor several kinds of intermediate were produced, and the reaction pathways were proposed on the basis of the production sequency of the intermediates. The intermediates in the pathways of PCE oxidation were hexachloroethane, pentachlotoethane, 1, 1, 2-trichloroethane, carbon tetrachl-oride, dichloroacetylchloride, chloroform, 1,1-dichloroethane, phosgene, CO, $CO_2$, HCl, Cl$_2$.

Offsite Consequence Analysis for Accidental Release Scenarios of Toxic Substances in the Yochon Area (여천지역 누출사고 시나리오에 따른 인근 지역 피해 분석)

  • Offsite consequences resulting form worst-case scenarios involving release of toxic substances in the Yochon area were estimated using the ALOHA(Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres) model. Eight toxic substances, including NH3, were considered; five were toxic gases and three were toxic liquids at ambient temperature. For toxic gases, the entire quantity was assumed to be released at a constant rate during a 10-minute period. For toxic liquids, the entire quantity stored in the tank was assumed to be spilled and spread and spread instantaneously to form a pool with a depth of 1cm, and then evaporated over some period of time. Except for phosgene and toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, for which concentration levels corresponding to human health effects are very low, average distances of the area at risk of adverse health effects for a 1- tom release were predicted to be $2.3{\pm}1.1 km$ for the worst-case meteorological conditions and $0.93{\pm}0.69km$ under typical meteorological conditions of the Yochon are. Because a large number of people were predicted to be affected in the current analysis, refined analyses considering both realistic accident scenarios and topographic effects were warranted.

  • Due to the depletion of fossil oil and the increasing oil price, bio-plastic is currently topical. Bio-based plastics are synthesized from plant resources, unlike conventional petroleum-based counterparts. Therefore, the former minimizes global warming and reduces carbon dioxide emission. Fossil polycarbonate (PC)has good mechanical and optical properties, but its synthesis requires bisphenol-A and phosgene gas, which are toxic to humans. To address these problems, the fused deposition 3D printing process (hereafter, FDM) is studied using environmentally-friendly and high-strength bio-based PC. A comparisonof the environmental impact and tensile strength of fossil PC versus bio-based PC is presented herein, demonstrating that bio-based PC is more environmentally-friendly with higher tensile strength than fossil PC. The advantages of bio-based PC are applied in the FDM process for the fabrication of environmentally-friendly baby toys.

  • 우리나라는 1970년대를 기점으로 하여 급격한 경제성장과 산업기술의 발전이 이루어졌다. 경제성장과 함께 주택의 보급 또한 급격하게 증가하게 되었고, 주택의 보급을 위한 건축자재 및 생활용품의 개발이 급속도로 이루어졌다. 이에 따라 실내에서 사용하는 기구 및 건축재료가 매우 다양해졌으며, 이로 인한 새로운 오염물질의 배출이 급격히 증가하게 되었다. 최근 새로운 기술로 소개되고 있는 촉매 산화법의 경우 제거하려는 대상 실내대기오염물질을 촉매를 이용하여 CO2나 H2O 등으로 산화시켜 제거하는 방법이며, 최근 많은 연구가 활발하게 수행되고 있다. 촉매를 이용하는 촉매 산화법은 광촉매 산화법과, 촉매의 성능만을 이용하여 대상물질을 산화하는 촉매산화법으로 구분된다. 광촉매 산화법은 특정 파장에서 반응하는 촉매에 자외선을 조사하여 실내오염물질을 산화제거하는 방법으로, 산화성능이 우수하여 여러 가지 실내오염가스에 적용되고 있으나, 별도의 광원이 필요하며, 포름알데히드 산화 시 CO2와 H2O 이외에도 dichloroacetyl chloride (C2HCl3O), trichloroethylene (C2HCl3), phosgene (COCl2) 등과 같은 부수적인 2차 유해물질이 발생함에 따라 이를 처리하기 위한 대책이 수반되어야 한다. 반면, 촉매 산화법의 경우 별도의 광원이나 에너지원 없이, 촉매를 이용하여 대기오염물질을 인체에 무해한 물질로 완전 산화시키는 방법으로써, 최근 많은 연구가 수행되어 상온에서 구동 가능한 촉매가 개발되었고, 이의 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이에 상온산화촉매기술의 연구동향 및 사례를 확인하고, 향후 상온산화촉매기술이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 환경부 환경산업선진화기술개발사업의 지원을 받아 수행되었습니다(2016000140004).

UV Photodegradation of Chlorinated VOCs: Removal Efficiency and Products (염소계 VOCs의 UV 광분해 연구: 제거율 및 부산물)

  • In this study, 4 gases containing typical chlorinated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were treated by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The typical chlorinated VOCs are dichloromethane (DCM), trichloromethane (TCM), carbon tetrachloride (CTC) and trichloroethylene (TCE). The removal efficiency (RE) and the products of chlorinated VOCs by UV irradiation are investigated. At this time, 2 types of background gas (air and nitrogen) were used to figure out the RE by photooxidation and photolysis. The specification of UV-lamp used in this study was low-pressure mercury lamp emitting wavelength of 185~254 nm. The experimental conditions were set as initial VOC concentration of $180{\pm}10ppm$, empty bed retention time (EBRT) of 53 s, temperature of $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of $65{\pm}5%$. In the photolysis condition with nitrogen ($N_2$) as background gas, the averaged RE of the 4 types of chlorinated VOCs was about 24% higher than that with photooxidation; and the REs of VOCs except CTC were confirmed as >99%. The composition of off-gases after UV photooxidation in air was investigated and several intermediates from DCM, TCM and TCE were detected by GC/MS. Among them, phosgene which is a toxics was detected as an intermediate of TCM. In addition, the concentration of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in the off-gases was measured to calculate the mineralization rate (MR). With the photooxidation, TCE showed the highest RE (>99%) while MR was the lowest (17%); and the MR of DCM was the highest (86%). In addition, particulate matters (PM) in the off-gases was also detected and high concentrated $PM_{10}$ ($21,580{\mu}g{\cdot}m^{-3}$) and $PM_{2.5}$ ($6,346{\mu}g{\cdot}m^{-3}$) were detected in TCE off-gas. More than 99% of the chlorinated VOCs could be removed using UV254-185 nm lamp, while it is necessary to conduct further studies on the production and treatment of secondary pollutants.

Effect of Pyridine on Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI) Synthesis Using Direct Carbonylation over Pd/SiO2 (Toluene diisocyanate(TDI) 합성을 위한 Pd/SiO2 촉매상 직접 카보닐화반응에서의 피리딘 첨가효과)

  • This study is about reduction reaction making 2, 4-dinitrotoluene (2, 4-DNT) to 2, 4-toluene diisocyanate (2,4-TDI) with Pd/$SiO_2$. Catalytic systems based on Pd/$SiO_2$ at about $200^{\circ}C$ and under 100 bars of carbon monoxide. We studied the effect of pyridine on the yield of the TDI. TDI was not created without pyridine, but created with pyridine, at the reaction result. According to research, homogeneous synthesis of TDI with direct carbonylation, palladium and pyridine complexion is known to catalyze. When adding pyridine the reason of TDI synthesis is palladium leaching, ICP-AES was performed to confirm it. As a result, the proportion of Pd loaded in $SiO_2$ was decreased 52% than before, after the reaction by adding 20 vol% pyridine. Generating TDI by adding pyridine might be the effect of the complex ion, which is composed of leached palladium and pyridine.

Study on Preparation of Methyl N-Phenyl Carbamate by Oxidative Carbonylation of Aniline and Methanol (아닐린과 메탄올의 산화 카르보닐화에 의한 Methyl N-phenyl carbamate 제조 연구)

  • The production of methyl N-phenyl carbamate by an oxidative carbonylation method of aniline and methanol is of great interest as an environmentally friendly process that can replace the monomer production process of a polymer produce using conventional phosgene. In this study, heterogeneous catalysts were prepared by using Y-zeolite, $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ as support, and oxidative carbonylation continuous operation from aniline and methanol was attempted using the prepared heterogeneous catalyst. Batch reactor was used to determine the support, and various reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, reaction pressure, and effect of promoter were established using palladium catalyst. A reaction kinetics study was conducted under optimum reaction conditions. The basic data for carbamate process development were obtained by performing continuous operation for a long time under established reaction condition.
