  • This paper presents segmental labeling conventions proposed by SiTEC (Speech Information Technology Engineering Center) 2002 and proposes a new directions of a revision for a simpler version. The paper also reviews one of the prosody labelling conventions for Korean, K-ToBI convention(ver. 3.1) and proposes a couple of modifications and suggestions.

  • This study has two main purposes. One is to explore the relationship between syntactic aspects and prosodic aspects in Standard Korean. The other is to provide speech synthesis with the information about such relationship. This study will focus on the prosodic behavior of subjective particles'-i/-ga', '-eun/-neun'. The prosodic features of subjective particles are described respectively. How do the elements such as the position of particles in a sentence, the sentence constituents, the length of the sentence and the rhythmic boundaries influence on the prosodic behavior are also investigated.

  • The purpose of this paper is the comparison of the Korean medial fortis duration between Korean native speaker and Japanese native speaker who study Korean language. For this purpose, I selected words with medial fortis from the SITEC DB. The Korean medial fortis of Japanese tends to have longer closure/friction duration than Korean native speakers in 3 syllables words. There are no distinct differences in 2 syllables words. This might be owing to the different timing unit of Korean and Japanese.

  • This paper aims to propose an intonation labeling method using Momel and to present results of analyzing a speech corpus consisting of 80 passages pronounced by 4 speakers (2 male and 2 female) using the proposed method. The results show that Momel works well enough to derive meaningful pitch targets, which could be labeled with H and L tones. On the other hand, the results of the analysis of Korean speech corpus correspond to earlier work.

  • This paper is for the comparison of prosodic phrasing in Korean spontaneous speech and read speech. For this comparison, The subjects read the transcriptions from their own spontaneous speech. The number of IP in spontaneous speech is more than in read speech, while The number of AP has no difference between them. A accentual phrase in spontaneous speech has less syllable than read speech.

  • The goal of our research is to build a text-independent speaker identification system that can be used in any condition without any additional adaptation process. The performance of speaker recognition systems can be severely degraded in some unknown mismatched microphone and noise conditions. In this paper, we show that PCA(principal component analysis) can improve the performance in the situation. We also propose an augmented PCA process, which augments class discriminative information to the original feature vectors before PCA transformation and selects the best direction for each pair of highly confusable speakers. The proposed method reduced the relative recognition error by 21%.
