  • This study is to research the essence of ‘Dwelling’ as the meaning of the veritable dwelling. This thesis started with the problematic recognition that the dwelling cannot treat the impending basic problems properly only with the scientific and estimating method so far The method for the study to recognize the essence of the dwelling in this study is the phenomenological method. The research method which was performed in order to recognize the essence of the dwelling was the deep interview, and the course and essence of the dwelling was understood after analyzing and interpreting while abstracting the dwelling experience of six aged women.

  • This qualitative nursing research used a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to discover meaning in mid - aged women's experience of mastectomy. The ultimate aim of the inquiry was to discover the essence of mid-aged women's experience and promote understanding. The study was guided by Van Manen's method for doing research. The method of inquiry included. turning to phenomenon of interest ; inquiring and investigating experience as it was lived rather than as conceptualized ; reflecting and analyzing essential themes which characterize phenomenon : and describing phenomenon through art of writing and rewriting. Multiple strategies for data collecting were needed : in depth face-to-face interview ; analysis of women's writings ; artistic works : and analysis of examples of phenomenon in art, litera lure, and drama. Although the experience was different for all of the women interviewd, essential themes of experience emerged : Self-discovering of vicious disease, Divining punishment-unfortunate women, loss of self though the scar, a night-mare, change of life values and attitudes, rediscovering living alone, living through with fearing of death. Findings from artistic and creative inquiry further validated findings and meaning descovered. The study illuminated meaning and simultaneously validated the phenomenological research process. Essential themes for understanding women's experience, implications for education, research, and practice, direction and need for continuing inquiry were identified.

  • Purpose: This phenomenological study is aimed to describe nurses' lived experience of preceptoring in hospitals. Methods: Ten nurse preceptors who participated in this qualitative study shared their experience of the preceptor's role in hospitals. Data analysis was done using the Colaizzi' phenomenological method. In-depth personal interviews were conducted from September 1 to November 30, 2013. Results: Based on this study, seven consistent categories and twenty-two theme clusters emerged from collected data. The seven themes were: 'not knowing what to do', 'not understood', 'burnt out due to pressure from work', 'having difficulty in building relationships at work', 'becoming similar to their preceptor, personal growth through preceptorship', and 'feeling rewarded at the preceptee's improvement'. Conclusion: The result of this study suggests that further research is needed to improve preceptors' adaptations to the workplace and to reduce their stress.

  • This study aimed to understand the meaning and essence inherent in the life experiences of people with schizophrenia. We approached with phenomenological method, and the research participants were 10 adults, aged 20 or older, who were diagnosed with schizophrenia. As a result, we found four essential themes. The participants with schizophrenia lived a life with special constraints of being thrown to the reality in which they experienced continuing suffering. Nevertheless, their daily lives were maintained on the basis of their own feelings and needs. In this study, we confirmed that they should be understood and treated in the mental health field with the perspective that they are not 'patients' nor a pathological outcome, but a 'human' with schizophrenia.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the essence of disabled parents' experiences of raising children. Method: Five families, which were composed with parents with physical disabilities and children, were participated into this study. One-time interview was conducted with mother of each family and it was recorded, coded, and analysed using method of Giorgi's phenomenological study. Result: Three superordinate themes, nine subordinate themes, and 22 concepts were derived. The essence of disabled parents' experiences of raising children was "disabled parents' growth with their children despite of prejudice." This represented that even though disabled parents faced with diverse kinds of difficulties, they put their heart and soul into raising their children and they encouraged their children to have their feet on the ground firmly. Finally, disabled parents went out into the world with their children. Conclusion: The current study illustrated how those stories about raising children could be interpreted from the perspective of the family relation, and suggested possible ways to support disabled parents for raising children.

  • This study is a phenomenological study on the experience of mothers of sexually abused children. The participants were 6 mothers whose children were sexually abused. The data was then analyzed according to Colaizzi's method. 253 sentences and phrases, 65 formulating meanings that were general, metaphysical, 27 theme, 13 theme clusters, 5 categories based on interview were selected. The following are the findings of study. 1. Shock : Perplexity, Confusion 2. Coping ; Settlement 3. Mental anguish: Anger, Anxiety, Suffering, Isolation 4. Conquest: Stabilization, Acceptance, Consolation, Change 5. Scar: Extant of anxiety, Concern The results show that the experience of the mother of sexually abused children changed over a period of time and they were willing to protect their children and resolve the issues within society. This research contributed to an understanding of the experience of mothers of sexually abused children, using phenomenological research method without the resource of previous study. This study suggests that social welfare services is needed for sexually abused children and their mothers.

  • The phenomenological loss equivalence method incorporated into the wideband lossy transmission line model is applied to the characterization of high desity digital transmission lines. The pulse propagation characteristics are analyzed using the calculated frequency characteristics and the discrete Fourier transformation. This approach has been verified by comparing the calculated frequency characteristics with the FEM and the esperimental results. This method is very suitable for computer-aided analysis of high density/high speed interconnection circuits because of the simple calculation as well as the calculation accuracy. We have found that pulse ftransmission speed and dispersion of hgih density digital transmission lines can be optimized by managing the conductor and dielectric losses in addition to the impedance matching.

  • Purpose : This study was attempted to explore the paramedic student's experience on simulation education. Methods : Data were collected through in-depth interviews from 15 paramedic students. The study was analyzed by phenomenological method, specifically Colaizzi's method. From the protocol, significant statements were organized into formulated meanings. Results : The formulated meanings were identified 35 themes, 12 theme clusters, and 6 categories. The 6 categories include burden of demonstration, role experience as a paramedic, confidence in field treatment, sense of disjunction caused by difference from real situation, realization and learning by oneself, and sense of stability from hypothetical situation. Conclusion : This study suggested that, even though some negative perceptions were observed, simulation education will fit as a replacement for the field practice of paramedic's students given that more field-like practice environment and repetitive simulation education are present.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning and nature of long term boarding care of children provided by grandparents in surrogate foster homes. Data were collected from 10 children 15 to 18 years of age by in depth interviews and observation from May 2007 to July 2007. Analysis of data was by the phenomenological analytic method of Giorgi(1970). Seven essential themes were extracted: (1) ambivalence about being labeled "family headed by a child," (2) recognition of the burden to grandparents with appreciation for their care, (3) resentment and yearning for parents, (4) economic hardship, (5) discord with grandparents, (6) maladjustment to school life, and (7) overcoming such obstacles as poor economic conditions and loneliness.

  • Purpose:This phenomenological study was to describe and to understand nurses' experiences of caring for woman with disability during pregnancy and childbirth. Methods: Participants were 13 nurses from 3 hospitals and 2 local clinics in J city, and were selected through snow-balling method. Data were collected two face to face, semi-structured interviews. The researcher used MP3 player and smart phone for recording as well as transcription process. As for the data analysis, Colaizzi's method was applied. Results: Nurses' experiences were structured as four theme clusters: 'Communicating between/among nurses', 'Recognizing pregnancy and childbirth of woman with disability', 'Taking care of woman with disability based on their differences' and 'Reflecting on nursing care for woman with disability'. Conclusion: It seemed that nurses' recognition to woman with disability and her pregnancy and childbirth was related their nursing care for woman with disability.
