The solubility parameter theory for retention behaviors of phenols in a reversed phase liquid chromatography can be applied to limited ranges of the aqueous solvent system. The many examples of the exception to this theory were found to show no agreement with the retention behavior of phenols. Therefore, a new solute-solvent interaction parameter, ${\delta}_{im}$ is added to the Schoenmakers equation of the solubility parameter theory in LC to approach the equation to the real one. The new solute-solvent interaction pararneter, ${\delta}_{im}$ depends on the kinds of solvent, the solvent composition and the structure of solutes. The parameter, ${\delta}_{im}$ has the linear relationship with the solubility parameter of mobile phase, ${\delta}_{im}$. The prediction of retention behavior by this modified equation turns out to be greater than the previous one.

Percutaneous absorption and model membrane variations of melationin (MT) in aqueous-based propylene glycol and $2-hydroxypropyl-{\beta}-cyclodextrin $vehicles were investigatted. the excised hairless mouse skin (HMS) and two synthetic ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and microporous polyethylene (MPE) were selected as a model membrane. the solubility of MT was determined by phase equilibrium study. the vertical $Franz{\circledR}$ type cell was used for diffusion study. The concentration of MT was determined using reverse phse HPLC system. The MT solubility was the highest in a mixture of PG and $2-HP{\beta}CD$. The percutaneous absorption of MT through excised HMS increased as the solubility increased. However, the permeability coefficient decreased and then slightly increased in mixture of PG and $2-HP{\beta}CD$. On the other hand, both flux and permeability coefficient through EVA membrane decreased as the solubility increased. No MT was detected over 12 h after starting diffusion through MPE membrane. The flux of MT was dependent on the type of membrane selected. Flux of MT was greatest in excised HMS followed by EBA and MPE membrane. Flux of MT through EVA membrane was 5-20 times lower when compared to excised HMS. Interestingly, volumes of donor phase when MPE membrane was used, significantly increased during the study period. the HMS might be applicable to expect plasma concentration of MT in human subjects based on flux and pharmacokinetic parameters as studied previously. the current studies may be applied to deliver MT transdermally using aqueous-based vehicles and to fabricate MT dosage forms.

Inclusion complex formation of octyldimethl p-aminobenzoate with $\beta$-cyclodextrin in aqueous solution and in the solid state was studied by the solubility method, spectroscopic(UV, FT-lR) and X -ray diffractometry. The solid complex of octyldimethy p-aminobenzoate with $\beta$-cyclodextrin was obtained in molar ratio of 1 : 2(guest/host). A spatial relationship between host and guest molecule was clearly reflected in the magnitude of the apparent stability constant (K') and in the stoichiometry of the inclusion complex. Furthermore, a typical type Bs phase-solubility diagram was obtained for octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate and p -cyclodextrin in water at $25^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that the solubility of the guest molecule was higher by the formation of $\beta$-cyclodextrin inclusion complex.
The inclusion of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$$({\beta}-CyD)$ with prothionamide in aqueous phase was investigated by circular dichroism(CD), ultraviolet (UV) absorption, and solubility technique. The results suggested that a region of drug chromophore was located within the asymmetric center of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$. Solubility and spectral changes were quantitatively treated to obtain stoichiometric ratio, which was found to be 1 : 1, and formation constants which were determined by solubility, CD, and UV method were 257, 367, and 389 $M^{-1}$, respectively. Also, the formation constant of the inclusion complex was determined by CD method at various pH. The result was that $K_c$ depended upon the pH of medium, and this fact also supported that thioamide moiety was accomodated in the cavity of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$.

Inclusion complex formation of octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$in aqueous solution and in the solid state was studied by the solubility method, spectroscopic (UV, FT-IR) and X-ray diffractornetry. The solid complex of octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ was obtained in molar ratio of 1:2 (guest/host). A spatial relationship between host and guest molecule was clearly reflected in the magnitude of the apparent stability constant (K') and in the stoichiometry of the inclusion complex. Furthermore, a typical type Bs phase-solubility diagram was obtained for octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate and ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ in water at $25^{\circ}C$. Supercritical fluid technology was applied to the regeneration of industrial catalyst contaminated with toxic materials. The regeneration process of activated loaded with phenol was proposed, then the adsorphon tower was packed with the activated carbon-bed. Phenol diffuses into supercritical carbon dioxide(SCC) through the micro-pore and voldge of the activated carbon. The saturated solubility of phenol in SCC depended on the density of SCC varing with temperature and pressure conditions. Therefore, the fasile phase equilibrium calculation model of dxpanded liquid One was proposed, and equilibrium solubility of phenol in SCC was calculated using the model theoretically. The regeneration mechanism of activated carbon was analysed by degree of saturation of phenol and diffusion in SCC. The solubility prediction was more satisfactory for the wide range of SCC density than the dense gas model and the desorption of phenol depended on the degree of saturation of phenol in SCC.
The characteristics of various important microstructural factors of WC-base hard- metals (cemented carbides) such as the amount of Co metal binder phase, the carbide grain size, the microstructural defects acting as a fracture source, the solid solubility of tungsten in the binder phase affected by the carbon content, the precipitation of $Co_3W$, the domain size of binder phase, the formation of ${\beta}-free$ layer or Co-rich layer and CVD or PVD coated layer, and the effects of these factors on the flexural strength of the hardmetals are reviewed.
The powders of the system Si3N4-Y2O3-AlN were prepared using Si(OC2H5)4 and YCl3.6H2O together with commercial AlN powder. $\alpha$-Si3N4 was prepared by the carbothermal reduction and nitridation of the hydrolyzed gel at 135$0^{\circ}C$ for 10h in N2 atmosphere. YCl3.6H2O was observed to be changed to Y2O3 during the reaction. $\alpha$-Sialon(X=0.2, 0.4, 0.6) ceramics were obtained by hot-pressing the Si3N4-Y2O3-AlN mixture at 178$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h under 30 MPa. The content of $\alpha$-Sialon increased with increasing metal solubility(x value) and $\alpha$-Sialon single phase was obtained at the metal solubility of 0.6. With increasing metal solubility, flexural strength, fracture toughness and thermal shock resistence were decreased, while the microhardness was increased. Large elongated $\beta$-Si3N4 grains were mainly observed at lower metal solubility. Mechanical prorerties of the sintered ceramics with X=0.2 were measured as follows : flexural strength ; 650 MPa, fracture toughness ; 3.63 MN/m3/2, hardness ; 14.7 GPa, thermal shock resistence temperature ; 58$0^{\circ}C$.
The solubility of triclosan, an anti-acne agent was measured in supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$) with a variable volume view cell at 313.15, 323.15, and 333.15 K and at pressures between 10 and 40 MPa. We successfully correlated triclosan solubility in $scCO_2$ using the quasi-chemical nonrandom lattice fluid (QLF) equation of state. Triclosan was micronized using the rapid expansion of supercritical solutions (RESS) process. The effects of temperature and pressure on particle size were investigated using phase behavior data and correlated results from the QLF model.
In order to reduce systemic side effects following administration, flurbiprofen was formulated as O/W microemulsion consisting of the surfactant, oil phase and aqueous phase. Particle size distribution, apparent viscosity, solubility and skin permeation of flurbiprofen in various vehicles and microemulsion were evaluated. The domain of O/W microemulsion s phase diagram had difference between oil types and the area of O/W microemulsion was wide distributed by adding to PG and cosurfactant than that of water alone. As increasing 10, 15 and 20% of Brij 97 content and 1, 2.5, 5% of oil content, the solubility of flurbiprofen in O/W microemulsions and various vehicles was $400{\sim}1,000$ and $10{\sim}500$ times higher than that of control. Also, apparent viscosity of soybean oil microemulsions was higher than that of IPM microemulsions and that of vehicle were increased as increasing vehicle content. Since skin permeation of flurbiprofen decreased as increasing viscosity, in each vehicle, it was not affected 2% ${\beta}-CD$ and decreased as increasing PG content and to 2, 5 and 10% of $HP-{\beta}-CD$. In O/W microemulsion, 5% soybean oil. 20% Brij 97 and 75% water(A-1) with high viscosity showed low skin penetration.
