  • The effects of nitrogen on the deformation behavior of duplex stainless steel have been studied. The variation of strength was correlated with the characteristic microstructures pertaining to nitrogen. Analysis based on Hall-fetch relation confirmed that nitrogen enhances phase-boundary strengthening effect. The evolution of dislocation structure, slip traces and misorientation distribution during deformation were also characterized to elucidate the effect of nitrogen on inelastic deformation mechanism. It has been verified in this study that the higher nitrogen content provides a dual-phase microstructure with smaller strength difference between austenite and ferrite resulting into the earlier transfer of inelastic deformation from austenite to ferrite.

  • In this study, the mechanism on the phase behavior of polysorbate nonionic surfactants was investigated. In the ternary system containing water, hexanol as a polar oil and surfactant, the phase behaviors ranging from micellar region to occurrence of liquid crystal phase were observed by crossed microscope. As results, fine mosaic texture of liquid crystal phase and other phases were examined in the range of 20~70 wt%. This range if thought to give information about the basic data for the formulation of more stable emulsifying systems or dispersed systems. According to the alkyl chain length, three phase region diminished, whereas two phase range increased without an observation of the anisotropic liquid crystalline phase.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of W substitution on the precipitation behavior of ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases in super duplex stainless steel. The ${\chi}$ phase was precipitated at the interface of ferrite / austenite phases and inside the ferrite phase at the initial stage of aging. With an increase in the aging time, the volume fraction of the ${\chi}$ phase increased, and then decreased with the transformation from the ${\chi}$ phase to the ${\sigma}$ phase. The ${\sigma}$ phase was precipitated later than the ${\chi}$ phase, and the volume fraction of x phase increased with the increase in the aging time. The ferrite phase was decomposed into the new austenite (${\gamma}2$) and ${\sigma}$ phases by aging treatment. The decomposition of the ferrite phase into the ${\gamma}2$ and ${\sigma}$ phases was retarded by W substitution for Mo. The volume fraction of the ${\chi}$ phase increased and that of the ${\sigma}$ phase decreased due to W substitution. The ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases were intermetallic compounds, which had lower nickel concentration, and higher chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten concentrations. The ${\chi}$ phase has higher molybdenum and tungsten concentrations than those of the ${\sigma}$ phase. The amounts of chromium and nickel in the ${\chi}$ and ${\sigma}$ phases did not change, but these phases have higher concentrations of molybdenum and tungsten due to W substitution for Mo.

  • The behavior variation of concrete dam is investigated, based on a new method for analyzing the data model of concrete dam in service process for the limitation of wavelet transform for solving concrete dam service process model. The study takes into account the time and position of behavior change during the process of concrete dam service. There is no dependence on the effect quantity for overcoming the shortcomings of the traditional identification method. The panel data model is firstly proposed for analyzing the behavior change of composite concrete dam. The change-point theory is used to identify whether the behavior of concrete dams changes during service. The phase space reconstruction technique is used to reconstruct the phase plane of the trend effect component. The time dimension method is used to solve the construction of multi-transformation model of composite panel data. An existing 76.3-m-high dam is used to investigate some key issues on the behavior change. Emphasis is placed on conversion time and location for three time periods consistent with the practical analysis report for evaluating the validity of the analysis method of the behavior variation of concrete dams presented in this paper.

  • This paper investigates CFD investigation on single phase supersonic nozzle flow and 2-phase subson ic flow prior to rocket nozzle supersonic 2-phase flow with water injection within the flame deflector. Numerical results of supersonic nozzle single phase flow showed no notable unrealistic behavior as it captures the usual shock cell structures. Three-dimensional 2-phase flow analysis has also been performed to verify whether the approach can grab the droplet behavior during cooling by water injection. It is expected these basic studies will enhance the cooling problem analysis of supersonic 2-phase rocket plume in the future.

  • This study was performed to investigate the correlation between changes of feeding behavior of Bemisia tabaci and residual effect of two insecticides, emamectin benzoate and pyridaben, using EPG technique. Waveforms such as non-probe time and total duration of phloem phase of B. tabaci were recorded during three hours using EPG. Relationship between non-probe time and the change of residual effect of two insecticides correlated with more pyridaben than emamectin benzoate. In the relationship between phloem phase time and those of residual effect, emamectin benzoate was more correlated than pyridaben. These results show that the change of feeding behavior of B. tabaci is correlated with the change of residual effect of two insecticides.

  • In this work, the dispersion behavior of $Y_2O_3$ particles in binary aluminum (Al)-copper (Cu) cast alloy was investigated with respect to Cu contents of 20 (hypoeutertic), 33 (eutectic) and 40 (hypereutectic) wt.%. In cases of hypo and hypereutectic compositions, SEM images revealed that the primary Al and ${\theta}$ phases were grown up at the beginning, respectively, and thereafter the eutectic phase was solidified. In addition, it was found that some of $Y_2O_3$ particles can be dispersed into the primary Al phase, but none of them are is observed inside the primary 6 phase. This different dispersion behavior of $Y_2O_3$ particles is probably due to the difference in the val- ues of specific gravity between $Y_2O_3$ particles and primary phases. At eutectic composition, $Y_2O_3$ particles were well dispersed in the matrix since there is few primary phases acting as an impediment site for particle dispersion during solidification. Based on the experimental results, it is concluded that $Y_2O_3$ particles are mostly dispersed into the eutectic phase in binary Al-Cu alloy system.

  • Several experimental tests to simulate a reflood phase of a cold-leg LBLOCA of the APR1400 have been performed using the ATLAS facility. This paper describes the related experimental results with respect to the thermal-hydraulic behavior in the core and the system-core interactions during the reflood phase of the cold-leg LBLOCA conditions. The present descriptions will be focused on the LB-CL-09, LB-CL-11, LB-CL-14, and LB-CL-15 tests performed using the ATLAS. The LB-CL-09 is an integral effect test with conservative boundary condition; the LB-CL-11 and -14 are integral effect tests with realistic boundary conditions, and the LB-CL-15 is a separated effect test. The objectives of these tests are to investigate the thermal-hydraulic behavior during an entire reflood phase and to provide reliable experimental data for validating the LBLOCA analysis methodology for the APR1400. The initial and boundary conditions were obtained by applying scaling ratios to the MARS simulation results for the LBLOCA scenario of the APR1400. The ECC water flow rate from the safety injection tanks and the decay heat were simulated from the start of the reflood phase. The simulated core power was controlled to be 1.2 times that of the ANS-73 decay heat curve for LB-CL-09 and 1.02 times that of the ANS-79 decay curve for LB-CL-11, -14, and -15. The simulated ECC water flow rate from the high pressure safety injection pump was 0.32 kg/s. The present experimental data showed that the cladding temperature behavior is closely related to the collapsed water level in the core and the downcomer.

  • Effects of continuous oil phase on silver halide nanoparticles were investigated where nanoparticles were prepared using two different types of water-in-oil(W/O) microemulsions containing silver and halide, respectively. Phase behavior experiments for ternary systems containing AOT surfactant, hydrocarbon oil and aqueous solution of an inorganic salt showed that the region of one phase W/O microemulsion was found to be broadened with an increase in the alkyl chain length of a hydrocarbon mainly due to an increase in hydrophilic nature of a surfactant. With the information of phase behavior experiments, silver halide nanoparticles were prepared using different AOT-based microemulsion systems and photomicrographs obtained by transmission electron microscopy indicated that about 10 nm size particles of relatively spherical shape were obtained. It has been found that an increase in alkyl chain length of a hydrocarbon results in a decrease in particle size because of higher intermicellar exchange rate among microemulsion drops. The average particle size was also found to increase with the inorganic salt composition of initial aqueous solution.

  • Ti-8Ta-3Nb, as a new biomaterial, was prepared by cast and swaging process. Their deformation behavior of Ti-8Ta-3Nb alloy has been characterized on the basis of its flow stress variation obtained from the true strain rate compression testing in the temperature of $700-900^{\circ}C$ and strain rate of $0.001-10\;s^{-1}$. At the strain rates lower than $0.1\;s^{-1}$ and the all temperature ranges which consist of two phase ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ as well as single ${\beta}$ phase fields, the flow curves show a small degree of flow softening behavior. In contrast, the shapes of the flow curves at other strain rates indicate unstable behavior. The shapes of the flow curves were similar in both as-cast and swaged specimen as well as in both ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase and ${\beta}$ phase. The flow stress data did not obey the kinetic rate equation over the entire regime of testing but a good fit has been obtained in the intermediate range of temperatures ($750-850^{\circ}C$). In this range, a stress exponent value of about 7.7 in as-cast specimens and about 6.2 in swaged specimens with an apparent activation energy of about 300 kJ/mol and about 206 kJ/mol respectively have been evaluated.
