  • Objectives: This study considered the effectiveness of Korean medicine for the treatment of eyelid edema post craniotomy. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with Taeumin-one of the four constitution types in Korean medicine-and treated with herbal medicines: Cheongsimyeunja-tang, Chungpyesagan-tang, and Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacoacupuncture treatment. The severity of eyelid edema was assessed using Kara and Gokalan's scale, daily imaging of the patient's eyelids, and the ratio of the length of the left eye to that of the right. Results: Following treatment, the Kara and Gokalan score decreased from 3 to 0. The changes in the ratios were 29% and 50%, respectively. The visual field defect due to edema in the left eye was also repaired. Conclusion: This study suggests that Korean medical treatment could be an effective option for treating eyelid edema following craniotomy.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report that the patient with Peripheral Facial palsy received Korean medicine treatments including SJS Non-resistance Technique-Facial(NRT-F) palsy through hospitalization treatment and received treatment effects. Methods : Four patients with peripheral facial palsy were treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, pharmacoacupunture, and NRT-F. The effect of treatment was evaluated by House-Brackmann Scale and the Yanagihara grading system. Results : After Korean medicine treatments with SJS NRT-F, symptoms were decreased and conditions were improved. Furthermore, the House-Brackmann Scale and the Yanagihara grading system scores were numerically better. Conclusions : The Korean medicine treatments with SJS NRT-F might be effective for Facial palsy.

In order to assess the change of symptoms, we used a 3-Dimensional(3D) gait analysis system, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS), analysis of gait video and self-evaluation of discomfort. ■Results After treatment, The improvements of walking pattern were observed in both objective analysis results of gait analysis system and subjective video analysis. And the UPDRS score decreased, especially Part III score decreased more than minimal clinically important difference(MCID). In addition, There was improvement in self assessment of the patient. ■Conclusion This study suggests that Korean medical treatment might be effective in motor disorder of parkinsonism patient.

  • This study is to show the clinical effect of Korean medicine integrated treatment for medial collateral ligament tear with bone contusion by traffic accident. The patients were treated using Korean medicine integrated treatment including acupunture, pharmacoacupunture and herbal medication. The effect of treatment was measured by Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC), EuroQol-5 Dimension Index (EQ-5D) and Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). After treatment, case 1 improved WOMAC from 94 to 24, EQ-5D from -0.056 to 0.72, and NRS from 10 to 2. Case 2 showed an improvement in symptoms from WOMAC 91 to 14, EQ-5D from 0.077 to 0.862, NRS from 10 to 2.5. In addition, as a result of follow-up about 5 months after each onset, case 1 showed a further improvement with WOMAC 0, EQ-5D 0.95 and case 2 WOMAC 7, EQ-5D 0.913. These results suggest that Korean medicine integrated treatment might be a possible therapeutic option for the medial collateral ligament tear with bone contusion by traffic accident.
