북한산 국립공원 주변지역 사육견의 광견병 항체 분포조사 (Serological survey of the rabies virus in dogs reared in the area around the Pukhansan National Park)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence rate for rabies antibody (PRRA) of dogs near the Pukhansan National Park and in some other districts in Seoul Metropolitan city. From April to July 2000, a total of 414 serum samples were taken from dogs for breeding (92), pet dogs (162), and unclaimed/stray dogs (162). Rabies virus antibodies were detected by neutralizing peroxidase-linked assay (NPLA). Of 414 sera tested, 145 (35%) were positive to rabies virus antibody. PRRA in Pukhansan National Park area and in the other districts of Seoul city were 34.8% and 35.4%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the prevalence rate between these two districts. PRRA in pet dogs, unclaimed/stray dogs, and dogs for breeding were 39.5%, 35%, and 27.2% respectively. PRRA in dogs from residential areas, apartments, animal hospitals, and farms were 32.5%, 60%, 35.3%, and 26.7% respectively. Especially, the dogs reared in apartments had a significantly higher seroprevalence (60%) than those in residential or farm areas. PRRA in less than 1 year, 1~<2 years, 2~<3 years, and over 3 years old dogs were 14.7%, 40.4%, 38.4%, and 53% respectively, and overall 35% in the dog population. In addition, we found that dogs less than 1 year of age had lower antibody prevalence than those over 1 year of age. It was concluded that enhancement of vaccination is important in the prevention of the rabies, and that rabies vaccines should not be less supplied than the population of the dog.

  • Recently, the rabies cases have been reported in Paju- and Yangju-gun, Gyeonggj province near Seoul metropolitan area. The Pukhansan national park, nearly located from the cities, is suspected to be a high risk area for incidence and spread of the rabies to metropolitan area. This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence rate for rabies antibody of dogs near the Pukhansan national park and in some other districts in Seoul metropolitan city. From march to october 2001, a total of 306 serum samples were taken from dogs for breeding(189) md pet dogs(117) in 4 districts near the Pukhansan national park and other districts of Seoul. Rabies virus antibodies in sera were detected by neutralizing peroxidase - linked as say (NPLA). Of the 306 sera of dogs tested, 74 (24.2%) were positive to rabies virus antibody. The prevalence rates of rabies antibody in Pukhansan national park area and in the other districts of Seoul city were 23.7% and 25.3%, respectively There was no significant difference in the prevalence rate between these two districts. The prevalence rates of rabies antibody in pet dogs and dogs for breeding were 40.2% and 14.3% respectively. The prevalence rates of rabies antibodies in less than 1 year, 1∼<2 years, 2∼<3 years, and over 3 years old dogs were 14.5%, 22.4%, 32.6%, and 27.1%, respectively, and overall 24.2% in the dog population. In addition, we found that dogs less than 1 year old had lower antibody prevalence than those over 1 year old. It was concluded that enhancement of vaccination is important in the prevention of the rabies, and that rabies vaccines should not be less supplied than the population of the dog.

개고기 식용이 위생과 음식물 쓰레기 처리에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Dogmeat Eating on Sanitation and Food Waste Consumption)

  • The total number of the dogs bred in Korea as of 2007 was 1,917,709, and among them, 77%, 1,476,776 dogs were edible dogs. Dogmeat has been legalized edible as food from Choseon dynasty, Daehan imperial state, Japan-occupied era till the present Korea. Dogs had been included in the article 2, Enforcement Ordinance of Processing and Disposal Rule of Livestock and Its Products until the end of Jan. 1979, but it was crossed out by the Notification No 3,005(Feb. 1 1979 effective) of the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Products, and as a result, the obligation that dogs should be slaughtered at the slaughtering ground was defunct. Thus, the arbitrarily dog slaughtering was empowered. As a matter of fact, the new law was not legalized in order to ban dogs from being slaughtered. The waste amount of slaughtered edible dogs amounts to 7,282 tons annually, and most of its waste from the arbitrarily-slaughtered dog is being illegally dumped without proper management and supervision. Edible dogs defecate 292,509 tons(calculates urine as dung) annually, but it is sanitarily disposed according to the Law of Management and Use of Livestock's Dung and Urine which took effective from Sep. 2009. Annual sales amount of edible dogs comes to 590 billion won on the basis of the shipment at breeding ground, but after passing through various level of marketing, and being processed as Gaesoju, and Boshintang, it forms 4 trillion won market when it reaches customers. The amount of food waste in Korea in 2007 came to 5,274,944 tons, and 633 billion won was spent for its disposal cost. Korean edible dogs of 1,476,776 heads consumed 1,266,705 tons, the 24% of total food waste. Edible dogs are the most effective means to convert food waste into food for man, not entailing the cost of disposal. On the other hand, pet dog culture brought about disposal cost, and the 51,188 dogs were abandoned at 2007, while 7 billion won was spent for the protection, euthanasia of them and the disposal of their dead bodies.

A serological survey of Dirofilaria immitis infection in pet dogs of Busan, Korea, and effects of chemoprophylaxis

  • The status of Dirofilaria immitis infection was assessed in pet dogs of Busan, Korea, and chemoprophylactic effects of microfilaricidal medication were evaluated. A total of 294 pet dogs older than 6 mo were examined, 217 of which had been maintained indoors, and 77 had been kept outdoors. The $Snap^R$ kit and direct microscopic examinations of the peripheral blood were used. The mean overall parasite positive rates were 10.2% and 6.5%, respectively. Outdoor dogs evidenced adult worm infection rate of 31.2% and microfilaria infection rate of 18.2%. The indoor dogs, however, evidenced adult worm infection rate of 2.8% and microfilaria infection rate of 2.3%. The prevalence in males was more than 2 times that of females. The changing pattern of infection rates by age evidenced a gradual increase, from 2- to 6-year-old dogs, after which, a decrease in infection rates was noted. With regard to chemoprophylaxis, the infection rates of complete and incomplete chemoprophylaxis groups were found to be 2-3 times lower than that of the non-chemoprophylaxis group. The results of the present study indicate that the risk of exposure to D. immitis in pet dogs is quite high, particularly in male outdoor dogs, and chemoprophylactic measures were quite effective.

반려동물 양육 소비자의 동물등록제 인식에 관한 연구 : 소형견 양육자의 애착유형을 중심으로 (Study on the Perception of Animal Registration System of the Companion Animal Owners : Focusing on the Pet Attachment Type of Small Dog Owners)

  • 본 연구는 반려견을 양육하는 소비자를 대상으로 동물등록제에 대한 인식을 구체적으로 확인하고, 반려견에 대한 애착양상에 따라 동물등록제에 대한 인식이나 선호가 달라지는지를 분석하였다. 온라인 설문조사를 통해 250부의 자료를 수집하였고, SPSS 24.0을 이용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 소비자가 반려견과의 관계에서 형성하는 애착의 형태는 동반자적 애착과 정서교감 애착으로 확인되었다. 반려견에 대한 애착양상에 따라 소비자는 단순동거형(25.6%), 친밀동반형(30.4%), 강한유대형(44.0%)의 3개 유형으로 분류되었다. 소비자 유형별로 동물등록제 인지여부 및 등록여부와의 관계에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 그리고 소비자 유형에 따라 동물등록제에 대한 인식 및 선호도에 있어 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 본 연구는 실효성 있는 동물등록제 개선 방안에 대한 소비자의 인식 및 선호를 실증하여 소비자 지향적인 동물등록제 발전 방향을 제언한다는 점에서 의의를 가진다.

포커스그룹을 통한 한국형 노인 간호 동물로봇 구성요소 확인 (Components of geriatric nursing robot for Korean elderly : Based on the Focus Group Interview)

  • 본 연구는 외국에서 이미 연구들이 진행되고 있는 노인간호 동물로봇과 관련하여 한국 노인을 위한 동물 로봇을 개발하는 경우 어떠한 속성을 포함하여야 할지 그 내용을 확인하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 재가노인 간호전문가와 시설노인전문가 13인을 대상으로 Focus group interview를 수행하였다. 자료수집은 2014년 8월 부터 12월 까지 이루어졌으며 2개 그룹으로 나누어 2명의 연구자가 인터뷰를 진행하고 인터뷰 결과에 대한 디브리핑과 필사자료를 바탕으로 내용분석을 통해 결과를 도출하였다. 그 결과 세 가지 주제 (효용성 인정, 모양, 기능)가 확인되었다. 구체적으로는 1인 가구 노인에 대한 효용성이 인정되었고, 모양과 크기는 우리나라 노인들에게 친숙한 강아지 모양, 그리고 다루기 용이한 3kg내외의 무게가 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 기능은 노인 뿐 아니라 가족들의 요구에도 부응할 수 있어야 하며 이를 위해 두 가지 핵심 기능 즉 상호작용 기능과 모니터링 기능이 필요한 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구의 결과 드러난 노인 간호 동물로봇의 요소들은 앞으로 노인을 대상으로 하여 확인할 필요가 있다. 또한 후속 연구들에서는 보다 구체적으로 각 주제별로의 컨텐츠에 대해 탐구할 필요가 있다.

아웃페인팅 기반 반려동물 자세 추정에 관한 예비 연구 (A Pilot Study on Outpainting-powered Pet Pose Estimation)

  • 최근 동물 행동 분석 및 건강관리 분야를 중심으로 딥러닝 기반 동물 자세 추정 기법에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 그러나 기존 동물 자세 추정 기법은 영상에서 신체 부위가 가려지거나 존재하지 않을 경우 좋은 성능을 보이지 않는다. 특히 꼬리나 귀가 가려진 경우, 반려견의 행동 및 감정 분석의 성능에도 심각한 영향을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 다루기 힘든 문제를 해결하기 위해, 이미지 아웃페인팅 네트워크를 자세 추정 네트워크에 연결하여 이미지 외부에 존재하는 반려견의 신체를 복원한 확장된 이미지를 생성하여 반려견의 자세를 추정하는 단순하면서도 새로운 접근방법을 제안하였고, 제안된 방법의 실현가능성을 검토하는 예비 연구를 수행하였다. 이미지 아웃페인팅 모델로는 CE-GAN과 트랜스포머 기반의 BAT-Fill을 사용하였고, 자세 추정 모델로는 SimpleBaseline을 사용하였다. 실험 결과, 크롭된 입력 이미지에서 반려견의 자세를 추정하였을 때보다, BAT-Fill을 사용하여 아웃페인팅된 확장 이미지에서 반려견의 자세를 추정하였을 때 자세 추정의 성능이 향상되었다.

근육전위을 이용한 회음허니아의 교정 (Surgical Corrections of Perineal Hernia by Muscle Transposition in Dogs)

  • Two dogs (case 1:2-year-old intact male German Shepherd-mixed dog and case 2: 4-year-old intact female Jindo miked) with perineal hernia were referred to the Chonbuk Animal Medical Center, Chonbuk National University. In the both cases, there were unilateral perineal swelling involving the right side of the anus. In addition, in case 2, swelling was also present ventral to the anus. Rectal palpation of pelvic diaphragm revealed weakness of the muscles. Both cases were surgically treated using muscle transposition technique for hemiorrhaphy. In case 1, transposition of the superficial gluteal and internal obturator muscles and in case 2, transposition oi semitendinosus muscle was performed for hemiorrhaphy and reconstruction of the pelvic diaphragm. Both dogs became recovered after the surgical correction and no complications were observed during 10-month (casel) and 9-month(case2). Muscle transposition can be a useful technique for the treatment of perineal hernia in the dog.

Diagnostic imaging of malignant insulinoma in a dog

  • Endocrine test data from a 13-year old intact female Maltese was indicative of the presence of an insulinoma, however ultrasonography identified a pancreatic mass only after 10 months after the first admission. Following identification of both pancreatic tumor and hepatic metastasis on computed tomography (CT), surgical excision of the mass was attempted. However, total excision failed because of tumor adhesion to adjacent large vessels. The pancreatic mass was monitored over the next 25 months via ultrasonography, CT, and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT). Histopathological and immunohistochemical data confirmed the diagnosis of insulinoma with hepatic metastasis.

영상 기반 강아지의 이상 행동 탐지 (Camera-based Dog Unwanted Behavior Detection)

  • The recent increase in single-person households and family income has led to an increase in the number of pet owners. However, due to the owners' difficulty to communicate with them for 24 hours, pets, and especially dogs, tend to display unwanted behavior that can be harmful to themselves and their environment when left alone. Therefore, detecting those behaviors when the owner is absent is necessary to suppress them and prevent any damage. In this paper, we propose a camera-based system that detects a set of normal and unwanted behaviors using deep learning algorithms to monitor dogs when left alone at home. The frames collected from the camera are arranged into sequences of RGB frames and their corresponding optical flow sequences, and then features are extracted from each data flow using pre-trained VGG-16 models. The extracted features from each sequence are concatenated and input to a bi-directional LSTM network that classifies the dog action into one of the targeted classes. The experimental results show that our method achieves a good performance exceeding 0.9 in precision, recall and f-1 score.
