Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine academic stress, social support and learning management system(LMS) utilization satisfaction of learners attending online graduate schools and understand the factors influencing their academic persistence. Methods: The participants were students of K online graduate school and the data of 143 students, in total, were collected from April to May in 2019. For data analysis, frequency analysis, x2 test, t-test, F-test, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS ver. 23. Results: Academic stress, social support, and LMS utilization satisfaction were associated with academic persistence of online graduate students. The multiple regression analysis of the factors influencing academic persistence showed that the model was significant (p<.001) with an explanatory power of 23% and that significant factors influencing it were academic stress (β=-.23, p=.002), LMS utilization satisfaction (β=.31, p<.001) and jobs (β=.23, p=.002). Conclusion: Although the online graduate students' level of academic persistence was high, it is required to develop strategies to alleviate their academic stress and increase LMS utilization rate in order to increase their persistence to academic success. In addition, it is necessary to provide the foundation on which the utilization of major knowledge regarding jobs can be enhanced, reflecting the characteristics of online graduate students. Furthermore, this study is expected to contribute to the extension of professional and advanced education in response to social needs by developing a variety of online high education learning systems beyond time and space.
Background: The objective of this study was to examine the effect of occurrence and reoccurrence of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) on transition to poverty and persistence of poverty in South Korea. Methods: The data of the year 2008-2011 from the Korea Health Panel were used. CHE was defined as the share of total health expenditure in a household out of a household's total income at various threshold levels (more than 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%). The effect of catastrophic expenditure on transition to poverty and persistence of poverty was analyzed through multivariate logistic regression. Results: The shares of households facing CHE at various threshold levels have increased gradually with 37.7%, 21%, 13.1%, and 9.5% in 2011. Households facing CHE were more likely to experience transition to poverty at thresholds level of more than 5% and 20% in 2010 set. Households facing CHE seemed to experience persistence of poverty, but it was not statistically significant. About 40% of households facing CHE in 2009 encountered another shock of CHE in 2010. Households without CHE seemed to experience more transition to poverty and persistence of poverty, but it was not statistically significant. For household with multiple CHE, those with medical aid were more likely to experience transition to poverty with statistical significance, but the statistical significance disappeared in case of persistence of poverty. Conclusion: The Korean health system needs to be improved to serve as a social security net for addressing transition to poverty and persistence of poverty due to facing CHE.
Background: The low benefit coverage rate of South Korea's health security system causes catastrophic health expenditure. And catastrophic health expenditure can be the cause of the transition to and persistence of poverty. This study was conducted to ascertain the effect of catastrophic health expenditure on the transition to and persistence of poverty, using 6 years of the Korea Welfare Panel Study Data. Methods: This study was conducted among the 22,528 households that participated in the Korea Welfare Panel Study, 2007-2012. Catastrophic health expenditure was defined as equal to or exceeds thresholds (10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%) of household's capacity to pay. The effect of catastrophic health expenditure on the transition to and persistence of poverty was ascertained via multivariate logistic regression. Results: Four-point-seven percent to 20.6% of the households are facing catastrophic health expenditure. Rates of the transition to (relative risk [RR], 18.6 to 30.2) and persistence of (RR, 74.8 to 76.0) poverty of households facing catastrophic health expenditure was higher than households not facing catastrophic health expenditure. Even after adjusting the characteristics of the household and the household head, catastrophic health expenditure was found to affect transition to (odds ratio [OR], 2.11 to 3.04) and persistence of (OR, 1.53 to 1.70) poverty. Conclusion: To prevent catastrophic health expenditure and transition to and persistence of poverty resulting from catastrophic health expenditure, the reinforcement of South Korea's health security system including the benefit coverage enhancement is required.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) persistence in pathological stage T3aN0 prostate cancer (PCa) after robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP). Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 326 patients with pT3aN0 PCa who underwent RALP between March 2020 and February 2022. PSA persistence was defined as nadir PSA of >0.1 ng/mL after RALP, and the risk factors for PSA persistence were evaluated using logistic regression analysis. Results: Among 326 patients, 61 (18.71%) had PSA persistence and 265 (81.29%) had PSA of <0.1 ng/mL after RALP (successful radical prostatectomy [RP] group). In the PSA persistence group, 51 patients (83.61%) received adjuvant treatment. Biochemical recurrence occurred in 27 patients (10.19%) in the successful RP group during the mean follow-up period of 15.22 months. Multivariate analysis showed that the risk factors for PSA persistence were large prostate volume (hazard ratio [HR], 1.017; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.002-1.036; p=0.046), lymphovascular invasion (LVI) (HR, 2.605; 95% CI, 1.022-6.643; p=0.045), and surgical margin involvement (HR, 2.220; 95% CI, 1.110-4.438; p=0.024). Conclusion: Adjuvant treatment may be needed for improved prognosis in patients with pT3aN0 PCa after RALP with a large prostate size, LVI, or surgical margin involvement.
The purpose of this paper is to model price formation and analyze demand structures for fishes under the restriction of Korean fisheries regulations. This study suggests the model that the price of fish is formed by its quantity, expenditure, and habit persistence. In economic literature, such a fishery market demand is called the inverse demand with dynamic habit persistence. Based upon a static differential price formation model, the paper has generalized it dynamically incorporating habit persistence effects. The empirical results show that all the species have values less than one and (-) sign of price flexibilities, thus being price inflexible. The estimated habit adjustment coefficients are significant at the level of 1%. Especially, TAC species have the smaller values of them than those of other main fish species. The contribution and results are summarized as follows. First, the fishery market demand has a strong dynamic effects from habit persistence. Second, the fishery market demand structure could be analyzed in a way different from the ordinary demand analysis, which is based upon price flexibility, scale flexibility, and cross adjustment flexibility. Third, the limitation of this paper is that it ignores the increasing stock effects by catching restrictions, thus raising consumers' benefit in the future.
