  • This study aims to investigate statistical variations and relationships of blood pressure (BP), phtotplethysmography (PPG) and cardiovascular parameters on changes in local skin surface temperature (SST) during gradual cooling and heating. Results showed that local SST changes affected the Finometer BP, the PPG waveforms and total peripheral resistance, but not oscillometric BP, heart rate, stroke volume and cardiac output. Therefore, in order to reduce for the errors, temperatures should be controlled or compensated when components of the PPG waveform are used to evaluate cardiovascular status in temperature variation environments.

  • This study presents an experimental investigation of conventional and enhanced receiver tube performance for the application of a concentrated parabolic trough collector (CPC). The CPC system is fabricated and tested for the conventional and enhanced receiver tubes. The experiments were performed on both tubes for the change of flow rates. The temperature rise of the tube surface, as well as working fluid, were monitored for varying flow rates. The results were compared and discussed in view of enhanced CPC system performance. The results exhibited that the temperature rise of the working fluid passing through the tube was more in the case of the enhanced tube compared to the conventional receiver tube under the same flow rates.

  • The influence of temperature variation (25~125$^{\circ}C$) on poly-Si thin-film transistors (TFT's) was investigated by examining the electrical properties change of poly-Si films formed by solid phase crystallization (SPC). The n-channel poly-Si TFT's fabricated by SPC with channel length of 1.5 and loon ,respectively, exhibit good characteristics with a high ${\mu}$$\sub$FE/ ($\geq$82 and $\geq$60$\textrm{cm}^2$/V-s in 1.5 and 10$\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively), low V$\sub$t/, ($\leq$1.52 and $\leq$ 2.75V in 1.5 and 10$\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively), low S$\sub$t/, and good ON-OFF characteristics in spite of temperature variation. Thus, poly-Si films formed by SPC can be applied for the application to poly-Si TFT liquid crystal display with peripheral integrated circuits.

  • Recently, ultrasound is becoming a universal way of treatment when it comes to clinic. The thermal effect of therapeutic ultrasound can raise the temperature of tissue without damage and thus increases the flow rate, and this leads to the oxygen transportation velocity of peripheral tissue and ultimately facilitates the metabolism. The purpose of this research is analyzing relations between PTT and transmission time of therapeutic ultrasound, and in this study the PTT variation due to respective transmission time of ultrasound upon 17 normal persons was measured and as a result, it was observed that PTT increases as transmission time of therapeutic ultrasound

  • When a crystal is grown by FZ process, the melt zone is located at between the solid of upper and lower side and is kept by the solid-liquid interface tension. On the surface of the melt zone, a surface tension gradient is occured by the difference of temperature and solute concentration, it is the driving force of marangoni flow. The crystal even in the steady state growth can become imperfect for the dislocation distribution and the solute concentration in the peripheral region of the crystal are higher than those in the inner part and the probability of the formation of the defects such as voids, bubble penetration, secondary phase creation and crack is high near the solid-liquid interface. This is because the solid -liquid interface becomes irregular because of the local variation of temperature in that region due to marangoni convection.

  • This paper deals with a digital Desoldering system for removing lead-free solder. We proposed a Desoldering system that is to cope with the changed work environment of the solder materials changing from lead solder to lead-free solder, we can be quickly stable to the set temperature, and continuous operation is possible. Proposed system consists of a Desoldering station and a Desoldering gun. For the PID temperature control, we designed the 8bit MCU peripheral circuit. We had a few experiments to confirm the performance of the proposed system, and compared with the specification of same kind of imports. As a result, proposed system than the imported products showed good performance as follows: the time to reach operating temperature is 11 seconds faster, ripple temperature variation is $1.5^{\circ}C$ lower, temperature recovery rate is about $0.14^{\circ}C$/sec faster.

  • In mid-August 2002, under clear summer pressure patterns, we carried out an intensive meteorological observation to examine the warming effects due to artificial constructions in a large housing complex. We set an automatic weather system(AWS) at two places in a bare soil surface within a limited development district and an asphalt surface within a large apartment residence area, respectively. As a result of observation, it became clear that the difference of the surface air(ground) temperature between the bare soil surface and its peripheral asphalt area reached about 4$^{\circ}C$(13$^{\circ}C$) at the maximum from diurnal variation of surface temperatures on AWS data. Through the heat balance analysis using measurement data, it became clear that the thermal conditions at two places are dependent on the properties of surface material. The latent heat flux over the bare soil surface reached to about 300 W/㎡, which is more than a half of net radiation during the daytime. On the other hand, it was nearly zero over the asphalt surface. Hence, the sensible heat flux over the asphalt surface was far more than that of the bare soil surface. The sensible heat flux over the asphalt surface showed about 20∼30 W/㎡ during the night. It was released from asphalt surface which have far more heat capacity than that of bare soil surface.

  • The quantitative sudomotor axon reflex testing (QSART) is a classic test of routine postganglionic sudomotor function. We investigated sudomotor function by QSART after summer (July 2012) and winter (January 2013) seasonal acclimation (SA) in the Republic of Korea. QSART with acetylcholine (ACh) iontophoresis were performed to determine directly activated (DIR) and axon reflex-mediated (AXR1, 2) sweating rate. Onset time of axon reflex, activated sweat gland density (ASGD), activated sweat gland output (ASGO), tympanic and skin temperatures ($T_{ty}$, $T_{sk}$), basal metabolic rate (BMR), and evaporative loss volume changes were measured. Tympanic and mean body temperature (${\bar{T}}_b$; calculated from $T_{ty}$, $T_{sk}$) were significantly lower after summer-SA than that of winter-SA. Sweat onset time was delayed during winter-SA compared to that after summer-SA. BMR, AXR(1), AXR(2), and DIR sweat rates, ASGD and ASGO, and evaporative loss volume were significantly diminished after winter-SA relative to after summer-SA. In conclusion, changes in sweating activity measured by QSART confirmed the involvement of the peripheral nervous system in variation of sudomotor activity in seasonal acclimation.

  • Experimental results for performance characteristics of small $NH_3$ absorption chiller/ heater are presented. The apparatus consists of 7RT water-cooled absorption system, solution pump, boiler, cooling tower and peripheral devices. The effect of experimental parameters, such as refrigerant mass flow rate, solution mass flow rate and cooling water temperature have been investigated in view of the system performance. The capacity of each heat exchanger increased as refrigerant mass flow rate increased in cooling mode. Also, a cooling capacity increased as a strong solution mass flow rate increased. The cooling and heating COP show 0.5, 1.5 regardless of refrigerant mass flow rate, respectively. The results focus on the evaluation for performance characteristics of system with respect to variation of refrigerant mass flow rate under standard design conditions.
