We propose a content-based image retrieval(CBIR) method based on an efncient combination of a color feature and multiresolution texture features. As a color feature, a HSV autocorrelograrn is chosen which is blown to measure spatial correlation of colors well. As texture features, BDIP and BVLC moments are chosen which is hewn to measure local intensity variations well and measure local texture smoothness well, respectively. The texture features are obtained in a wavelet pyramid of the luminance component of a color image. The extracted features are combined for efficient similarity computation by the normalization depending on their dimensions and standard deviation vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method yielded average $8\%\;and\;11\%$ better performance in precision vs. recall than the method using BDIPBVLC moments and the method using color autocorrelograrn, respectively and yielded at least $10\%$ better performance than the methods using wavelet moments, CSD, color histogram. Specially, the proposed method shows an excellent performance over the other methods in image DBs contained images of various resolutions.

Generally, human eye blinks are closely associated with the cognitive state or visual attention such as attentional requirements on visual stimuli. These previous studies have reported that eye blinks are related to explicit visual attention using blink rate, pattern and blink timing across subjects. However, these results have been obtained in a well-controlled experimental settings. So, it would prove difficult to investigate human's natural response in a continuous and realistic situation. In our study, we measured the eye blink intervals while participants viewed a movie clip. And we analyzed the blink interval data for relationship between visual attention and eye blink intervals. 24 participants took part in two experimental sessions, first session to measure the IEBI while viewing the movie clip and second session to conduct a memory performance test using a self-questionnaire, which were spaced 3 weeks apart. The results indicate significantly higher memory performance at long IEBI period than short IEBI period while watching a movie clip(t = 3.257, df = 17, p < 0.005, 2-tailed). In addition, memory performance score significantly correlated with the IEBI value(spearman's rho = 0.40, N = 36, p < 0.01, 2-tailed). Our results suggest that IEBI is used to measure or assess visual attention while wiewing the movie that it is capable of simulating aspects of real-life experiences by visual attention. Thus, we expect IEBI to be used to measure or assess our visual attention, cognition, further emotion about not only movies, advertisements and other cultural contents but also cognitive science.

Microwave diagnostics have been widely utilized to measure the important parameters of high temperature and high density plasmas. Reflectometry is known as a promising microwave diagnostic which has a number of merits to measure electron density profiles. In the KSTAR device, X-mode FM reflectometry is planned to measure the plasma density profiles. FM reflectometry is required to extract phase information on raw mixer IF signals, thereby obtaining time-of-flight of reflectometry signals. It is known that the data analysis method is crucial to determine the performance of FM reflectometry In fact, there are several analysis programs which have been utilized in various FM systems. Since each program was developed for a specific device, however, it is difficult to directly apply it to a different reactor like the KSTAR device. It is necessary, therefore, to develop a data analysis program for the KSTAR FM reflectometry. In this paper, complex digital demodulation (CDM) and wavelet transformation are examined in terms of the performance of density profile reconstruction. For the comparison of both methods, FM reflectometry signals are generated on the basis of assumed profiles and the interaction of the X-mode wave and the plasma. In order to see how well both methods work under various conditions, three types of profiles are assumed and noise effects are included. As a result, both methods work well under the condition of gentle density gradient and small noise level. As density gradient becomes steeper and noise level gets higher. the reconstruction performance of wavelet is better than that of CDM.

Color images are often corrupted by the noise due to noisy sensors or channel transmission errors. Some filters such as vector media and vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter have bee used for color noise removal. In this paper, We propose the fuzzy cluster filters based on the possibilistic c-means clustering, because the possibilistic c-means clustering can get robust memberships in noisy environments. Also, we propose weighted vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter to improve the conventional vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter. In this filter, the central data are more weighted than the outlying data. In this paper, we implemented the color noise generator to evaluate the performance of the proposed filters in the color noise environments. The NCD measure and visual measure by human observer are used for evaluation the performance of the proposed filters. In the experiment, proposed fuzzy cluster filters in the sense of NCD measure gave the best performance over conventional filters in the mixed noise. Simulation results showed that proposed weighted vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filters better than the conventional vector $\alpha$-trimmed mean filter in any kinds of noise.
Background : This study verified a correlation between gross motor performance measure (GMPM) and pediatric balance scale (PBS) for children, which are most widely used for assessment of children with cerebral palsy. Methods : The study subjects are 20 children aged between five and 13 who were diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Their mean age was $8.15{\pm}2.96years$ and consists of 15 males and 5 females. The subjects were divided into three groups according to muscle tone and motility disorders and then GMPM and PBS were assessed. In the assessment items in the GMPM, alignment, coordination, dissociated movement, stability, and weight shift were measured. The PBS consists of sitting to standing, standing to sitting, moving between chairs, standing without using hands, standing with one foot, turning 360 degrees, turning to look behind, retrieving object from floor, and reaching forward with outstretched arm while standing. A correlation of the collected data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 for windows. Results : From Significant correlations were shown between items of GMPM and PBS as well as total scores of GMPM and PBS. Among them, coordination and weight transfer in the GMPM items had a high correlation with the PBS. In addition, the higher the GMPM total score was, the higher the PBS score was. Conclusion : This study result showed a significant correlation between GMPM and PBS, and this relation can be used to pediatric physical examination.

This study was performed to develop a measurement system of tractor field performance for plow and rotary operations. Measurement system for tractor consisted of torque sensors to measure torque of drive axles and PTO axle, speed sensors to measure rotational speed of drive axles and engine, microcomputer to control data logger, and data logger as I/O interface system. The measurement system was installed on four-wheel-drive tractor. Four-element full-bridge type strain gages were used for torque measurement of drive axles and optical encoders were used to measure speeds of drive axles and engine. Slip rings were mounted on the rotational axles. Signals from sensors were inputted to data logger that was controlled by microcomputer with parallel communication. Sensors were calibrated before the field tests. Regression equations were found on completion of the calibrations. The field experiment was performed at paddy fields and uplands. Rotary and plow were used when the tractor was operated in the field. Travelling speeds of the tractor were 1.9 km/h, 2.7 km/h, 3.7 km/h, 5.5 km/h, 8.2 km/h, and 11.8 km/h. Operating depths of implements were maintained approximately 20cm during the tests. Torque data of drive axles were different at each location during plow and rotary operations. Results showed that torque of rear axles were greater than those of front axles. Total torque were 6860 - 11064 Nm at the upland and 7360 - 14190 Nm at the paddy field for plow operations. It was found that torque at the paddy field were about 20% greater than those at the upland for plow operations. Torque data showed that rotary operations required less power than plow operation at the paddy field and the upland. Torque measurements at each axle for rotary operations were only 8 - 16% of plow operations in the upland and 15 - 20% in the paddy field.
Kim et al. Proposed Normalized Confidence Measure (NCM) [1-2] and it was successfully used for rejecting mis-recognized words in isolated word recognition. However their experiments were performed on the fixed word speech recognition. In this Paper we apply NCM to the domain of vocabulary independent speech recognition (VISP) and shows the rejection Performance of NCM in VISP. Specialty we Propose vector quantization (VQ) based method for overcoming the problem of unseen triphones. It is because NCM uses the statistics of triphone confidence in the case of triphone-based normalization. According to speech recognition experiments Phone-based normalization method shows better results than RLJC[3] and also triphone-based normalization approach. This results are different with those of Kim et al [1-2]. Concludingly the Phone-based normalization shows robust Performance in VISP domain.

This paper presents a new neural network control for nonlinear bridge systems with earthquake excitation. We design multi-layer neural network controllers with a single hidden layer. The selection of an optimal number of neurons in the hidden layer is an important design step for control performance. To select an optimal number of hidden neurons, we progressively add one hidden neuron and observe the change in a performance measure given by the weighted sum of the system error and the control force. The number of hidden neurons which minimizes the performance measure is selected for implementation. A neural network was trained for mitigating vibrations of bridge systems caused by El Centro earthquake. We applied the proposed control approach to a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) and a two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) bridge system. We assessed the robustness of the control system using randomly generated earthquake excitations which were not used in training the neural network. Our results show that the neural network controller drastically mitigates the effect of the disturbance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a hospice palliative care performance measure which would cover more than just physical symptoms or quality of life. Methods: Through an intensive literature review, the author chose questions that measured aspects of physical, emotional, spiritual, social, or practical domains pertinent to hospice palliative care for inclusion in the scale. Content validation of the questions was established by 15 hospice palliative care professionals. A preliminary Hospice Palliative Care Performance Scale (HPCPS) of 20 questions was administered to 134 pairs of terminal cancer patients from 5 hospice palliative care units and their main family caregiver. A validation study was conducted to evaluate construct validity and internal consistency. Results: Factor analysis showed 14 significant questions in five subscales; Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social, and Patient' rights. There were no significant differences between the ratings by patients and family members except for three out of the 14 questions. The measure demonstrated construct validity, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of the subscales ranged from .73 to .79. Conclusion: The HPCOS demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. It can be used to assess effectiveness of hospice palliative care for terminal cancer patients in practice and research.
Section model wind tunnel test is currently the main technique to investigate the flutter performance of long-span bridges. Further study about applying the wind tunnel test results to the aerodynamic optimization is still needed. Systematical parameters and test principle of the bridge section model are determined by using three long-span steel truss suspension bridges. The flutter critical wind at different attack angles is obtained through section model flutter test. Under the most unfavorable working condition, tests to investigate the effects that upper central stabilized plate, lower central stabilized plate and horizontal stabilized plate have on the flutter performance of the main beam were conducted. According to the test results, the optimal aerodynamic measure was chosen to meet the requirements of the bridge wind resistance in consideration of safety, economy and aesthetics. At last the credibility of the results is confirmed by full bridge aerodynamic elastic model test. That the flutter reduced wind speed of long-span steel truss suspension bridges stays approximately between 4 to 5 is concluded as a reference for the investigation of the flutter performance of future similar steel truss girder suspension bridges.
