  • There has been criticism that the government-led makerspace did not reflect the actual demand of makers, so there was a limit to performance creation. In this regard, the study aims to diagnose the current status and problems of makerspace and to suggest the implication to respond to policy demand. To this end, we analyzed the current status of makerspace by utilizing the government documents. Then, we conducted a survey of SMEs related to ICT devices that experienced makerspace, and analyzed their opinions on D·N·A technology demand, management difficulties, and governments' support policies. As results, the study proposed several improvement measures to upgrade makerspace as a digital conversion platform as follows. First, due to the nature of the existing industry for introducing D·N·A technology, there is a limit for companies to enter the market on their own, so comprehensive support from the government is needed. Second, it is necessary to establish and expand an empirical test bed for the development of new products and services so that various types of metaverse contents can be discovered and digital transformation convergence models of existing businesses can be derived. Third, by modifying the support method to operate the makerspace as a platform that implements the government-led start-up support policy, boldly transfer what the private sector can do well to the private sector. The participants of Industry·University·Institute Collaboration should freely share ideas and help the common problem be solved. Based on the problems and the findings for improvement, it is expected that the current makerspace would be upgraded to a digital conversion platform suitable for the demand of the field.

  • In this paper, the transmit-receive module for military seekers has been designed and fabricated in 35 GHz. To increase the performance of substrates and high integration of circuits in millimeter-wave band, a 4-layer LCP(Liquid Crystal Polymer) substrate was developed. This substrate was implemented with three FCCL substrates and two adhesive layers, and a process using the difference in melting point between the substrates was used for lamination. Using a strip line and a microstrip line was confirmed by the transmission loss along the length of the substrate, and the performance of LCP substrates was validated with a power divider in 35 GHz. After confirming the performance of individual blocks such as power amplifier and low noise amplifier, a single channel Ka-band transmission/reception module was developed using a 4-layer liquid crystal polymer substrate. The transmit power of this module has above 1.1W in pulse duty 10% and has an output power of 1.1W and it has receive noise figure less than 8.5 dB and receive gain more than 17.6 dB.

  • Recently, diverse devices using different wireless technologies are gradually increasing in the IoT environment. In particular, it is essential to design an efficient feature extraction approach and detect the exact types of radio signals in order to accurately identify various radio signal modulation techniques. However, it is difficult to gather labeled wireless signal in a real environment due to the complexity of the process. In addition, various learning techniques based on deep learning have been proposed for wireless signal classification. In the case of deep learning, if the training dataset is not enough, it frequently meets the overfitting problem, which causes performance degradation of wireless signal classification techniques using deep learning models. In this paper, we propose a generative adversarial network(GAN) based on data augmentation techniques to improve classification performance when various wireless signals exist. When there are various types of wireless signals to be classified, if the amount of data representing a specific radio signal is small or unbalanced, the proposed solution is used to increase the amount of data related to the required wireless signal. In order to verify the validity of the proposed data augmentation algorithm, we generated the additional data for the specific wireless signal and implemented a CNN and LSTM-based wireless signal classifier based on the result of balancing. The experimental results show that the classification accuracy of the proposed solution is higher than when the data is unbalanced.

  • Recently in the area of ICT, the M2M and IoT are in the spotlight as a cutting edge technology with the help of advancement of internet. Among those fields, the smart home is the closest area to our daily lives. Smart home has the purpose to lead a user more convenient living in the house with WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) or other short-range communication environments using automated appliances. With an arrival of the age of IoT, this can be described as one axis of a variety of applications as for the M2H (Machine to Home) field in M2M. In this paper, we propose a novel technique for estimating the location of a terminal that freely move within a specified area using the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) in the WLAN environment. In order to perform the location estimation, the Fingerprint and KNN methods are utilized and the LMS with the gradient descent method and the proposed algorithm are also used through the error correction functions for locating the real-time position of a moving user who is keeping a smart terminal. From the estimated location, the nearest fixed devices which are general electric appliances were supposed to work appropriately for self-operating of virtual smart home. Through the experiments, connection and operation success rate, and the performance results are analyzed, presenting the verification results.

  • In the Republic of Korea, there's been a culture called 'Hyo' since Koryo Dynasty and this word represents the meaning of paying utmost respects to one's own parents and ancestors whether they are alive or have passed. However, nowadays, most of people live away from their family gravesites so that they do not and cannot take care of them except on the special holidays. For this reason, people could not respond promptly to the incidents occurred at the sites as they receive notifications much later dates most of the time. Thus, in this paper, we propose a low-cost gravesite monitoring system which the users can immediately respond to the disastrous events after being informed of current situations through PLC without delay. For the performance evaluation, the lab and test bed experiments were performed on an actual ship using 200Mbps and 500Mbps products instead of performing an on-site experiment after the system has actually been constructed. The Mountain Region PLC was installed on the power lines and the result showed successful 36.14Mbps communication. Therefore, we expect that this study will contribute in time and cost reduction while constructing the internet infrastructures in mountain regions or building the Smart-graves, tumulus, and charnel houses.

  • As user-involved energy saving activities have become important in recent years, many forms of energy feedback experiments have been conducted. We conducted a study to determine if energy feedback activities affect energy saving for students living in dormitories at a university in Seoul. In particular, smart plugs were used for efficient research and quantitative performance measurements, and the extent of the impact of competition and rewards on participant energy saving behavior was further analyzed. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the power usage of groups using smart plugs was lower than that of those without them. Second, energy feedback delivered to smart plug users did not have a significant impact on reduction of electric power consumption. Third, competition and compensation strategies had additional effects in reducing power usage for smart plug users. As a result, methods to deliver energy feedback more effectively as ICT technologies develop and efficient energy activities using IoT technologies can be expected to spread widely in the future.

  • In this paper, an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit is designed for use as a 12 V power clamp by using a parasitic-diode-triggered silicon controlled rectifier. The breakdown voltage and trigger voltage ($V_t$) of the proposed ESD protection circuit are improved by varying the length between the n-well and the p-well, and by adding $n^+/p^+$ floating regions. Moreover, the holding voltage ($V_h$) is improved by using segmented technology. The proposed circuit was fabricated using a $0.18-{\mu}m$ bipolar-CMOS-DMOS process with a width of $100{\mu}m$. The electrical characteristics and robustness of the proposed ESD circuit were analyzed using transmission line pulse measurements and an ESD pulse generator. The electrical characteristics of the proposed circuit were also analyzed at high temperature (300 K to 500 K) to verify thermal performance. After optimization, the $V_t$ of the proposed circuit increased from 14 V to 27.8 V, and $V_h$ increased from 5.3 V to 13.6 V. The proposed circuit exhibited good robustness characteristics, enduring human-body-model surges at 7.4 kV and machine-model surges at 450 V.
