The objective of this study is to develop a thermoelectric generation system which converts unused energy from close-at-hand sources such as garbage incineration heat and industrial exhaust etc. into electricity. This paper presents applicability of a commercially available thermoelectric generator f3r waster heat recovery. The test facility consists of water heater, pump, thermoelectric module and aluminium tubes and hot and cold water is used as heat source and sink fluids. It is shown that the three components of thermoelectric research exist in manufacturing a thermoelectric generator. The first component is fabrication of thermoelectric materials, the second is manufacturing of thermoelectric generator with 32 thermoelectric modules. The last one is characteristic measuring of thermoelectric generator with 32 thermoelectric modules of two types, cooling and power purpose. It was found that the rate of cold and hot water is 25 and 37 liter per minute and the maximum power of thermoelectric generator is 28Watts and its efficiency is 1.04%.

The heat transfer performance of R - 11 vapor condensing on integral fin tubes has been studied using fin tubes having the fin density from 748 to 1654 fins per meter. Electric heater supplied heat energy to the boiler to generate R - 11 vapor over the range of 25-60W. Condensation rates of each tubes were tested under the condition of cooling water flow rate from 400l/h to 2500l/h. For the seven fin tubes tested, the best performance has been obtained with a tube having a fin density of 1417fpm and a fin height of 1.3mm. This tube has yielded a maximum value of the heat transfer coefficient of 16500W/$m_2$K, at a vapor to wall temperature difference of 3K. Experimental results of integral fin tubes have been compared with available predictive models such as Beatty - Katz's analysis, Webb's analysis, Sukhatme's analysis and Rudy's empirical relation. The experimental results were shown to be in good agreement with that of the Sukhatme's analysis.
The variation in microstructure and mechanical properties during heat treatment was examined in a series of 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn steels with chromium contents in the range of 0 to 1.0 wt%. It was found that chromium decreased the martensite packet size through the austenite grain refinement and increased tensile strength in the as-quenched steel, about 70 MPa per 1.0 wt%. The 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn-1.0% Cr steel showed tensile strength of 1700 MPa in the as-quenched steel. The 0.27% C-1.0% Si-1.5% Mn-1.0% Cr steel revealed a full martensitic structure after air cooling from $900^{\circ}C$ to room temperature, showing air hardening characteristics. Tempering at $150^{\circ}C$ slightly decreased the tensile strength and increased elongation, which is in a good agreement with impact toughness result.

GRP pipe (Glass-fiber Reinforced Plastic Pipe) lines making use of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) are generally thinner, lighter, and stronger than the existing concrete or steel pipe lines, and it is excellent in stiffness/strength per unit weight. In this study, we present the result of field test for buried GRP pipes with large diameter(2,400mm). The vertical and horizontal ring deflections are measured for 387 days. The short-term deflection measured by the field test is compared with the result predicted by the Iowa formula. In addition, the long-term ring deflection is predicted by using the procedure suggested in ASTM D 5365(ANNEX) in the range of 40 to 60 years of service life of the pipe based on the experimental results. From the study, it was found that the long-term vertical and horizontal ring deflection up to 60 years is less than the 5% ring deflection limitation.
We retrieved rotational temperatures from emission lines of the OH airglow (8-3) band in the sky spectra of the Sloan digital sky survey (SDSS) for the period 2000-2014, as part of the astronomical observation project conducted at the Apache Point observatory ($32^{\circ}N$, $105^{\circ}W$). The SDSS temperatures show a typical seasonal variation of mesospheric temperature: low in summer and high in winter. We find that the temperatures respond to solar activity by as much as $1.2K{\pm}0.8K$ per 100 solar flux units, which is consistent with other studies in mid-latitude regions. After the seasonal variation and solar response were subtracted, the SDSS temperature is fairly constant over the 15 year period, unlike cooling trends suggested by some studies. This temperature analysis using SDSS spectra is a unique contribution to the global monitoring of climate change because the SDSS project was established for astronomical purposes and is independent from climate studies. The SDSS temperatures are also compared with mesospheric temperatures measured by the microwave limb sounder (MLS) instrument on board the Aura satellite and the differences are discussed.
Electron beam (EB) and Gas tungsten arc (TIG) welds were performed on 12.7 mm thick Ti-6Al-4V plate (ASTM Titanium Grade 5). Charpy-V toughness and hardness, as well as, microstructure of the welds and penetration from the macrostructure were studied. It appears that by EB welding rather smaller $\beta$-grains than with TIG welding can be obtained. Next to the fusion line the $\beta$-grain size in the HAZ was 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$l while in the weld metal it was 150 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Charpy-V toughness of the EB weld metal was equal or even better to that of base metal, which shows that the $\alpha$-martensite per se is not particularly brittle if only the grain size is fine enough. This is similar to behavior of low carbon martensite in steel. The grain size was studied with light optical and scanning electron (SEM) microscopes. Thus for products, for products which can be manufactured automatically with very narrow fit, the EB welding of Ti-6Al-4V appears to yield satisfactory toughness without any complex post weld heat treatment. ill this study as in earlier studies the TIG welds gave lower toughness than that of the base material due to the higher heat input and slower cooling as compared to EB welding.

Experimental studies have been performed to observe the basic phenomena of waste bed combustion in MSW incinerator. A reduced scale apparatus was utilized to simulate the combustion behavior in real plant with 1-dimensional transient behavior at the experimental setup, which uses wet cubic wood with ash content as simulated waste. LHV (lower heating value) of solid fuel, fuel particle size and flow rate of combustion air were taken as important parameters of the bed combustion. For the quantitative analysis, FPR (flame propagation rate), TBT (total burn-out time) and PBT (particle burn-out time) was defined. LHV represent the capability of heat release of the fuel, so that a higher LHV results in faster reaction rate of the fuel bed, which is shown by higher FPR. Fuel particle size is related with surface area per unit mass as well as heat and mass transfer coefficient. As the particle size increases the FPR decreases owing to decreasing specific surface area. Air injection supplies oxygen to the reaction zone. However oversupply of combustion air increases convection cooling of the bed and possibly extinguishes the flame.

The purpose of this study was to measure and compare the skin temperature over the exercised muscle and corresponding non-exercised muscle after unilateral isokinetic exercise using digital thermography. Thirty-two young healthy volunteers with no history of knee injury were tested. After isokinetic exercise at 60 degree per second angular velocity using the right leg in a climatic chamber at ambient temperature of $23-26^{\circ}C$, skin temperature of the anterior thigh was tested. After exercise, the skin temperature of both the right and left leg had fallen significantly. The skin temperature of the exercised leg fell less than that of the non-exercised leg. The fall in skin temperature after work was not due to increased evaporative cooling, but was the result of segmental vasoconstriction probably caused reflexly in the spinal cord by non-thermal afferents from exercising muscle or moving tissues. The effect of thermoregulatory vasodilation was reduced by reflex vasoconstriction caused by non-thermal factors such as catecholamine.

This paper describes an investigation about the fluid delivering method that minimizes the generation of hydrodynamic pressure and improves the grinding accuracy. Traditionally, grinding fluid is delivered for the purpose of cooling, chip flushing and lubrication. Hence, a number of conventional investigations are focused on the delivering method to maximize fluid flux into the contact arc between the grinding wheel and the work piece. It is already known that hydrodynamic pressure generates due to this fluid flux, and that it affects the overall grinding resistance and machining accuracy. Especially in the ultra-precision mirror grinding process that requires extremely small amount of cut per pass, its influence on the machining accuracy becomes more significant. Therefore, in this paper, a new delivering method of grinding fluid is proposed with focus on minimizing the hydrodynamic pressure effect. Experimental data indicates that the proposed method is effective not only to minimize the hydrodynamic pressure but also to improve the machining accuracy.

Recently, multi cell tube which is used for a cooling system of automobiles is mainly manufactured by the conform extrusion but this method is inferior as compared with direct extrusion in productivity per the unit time and in the equipment investment. Therefore, it is essential for the conversion of direct extrusion with porthole die. The direct extrusion with porthole die can produce multi cell tube which has the competitive power in costs and qualities compared with the existing conform extrusion. This study is designed to evaluate metal flow, welding pressure, extrusion load, tendency of mandrel deflection that is affected by variation of porthole shape in porthole die. Estimation is carried out using finite element method under the non-steady state. Also this study was examined into the cause of mandrel fracture through investigating elastic deformation of mandrel during the extrusion.
