A Companding Scheme for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Systems

  • We propose in this paper a companding scheme or peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. By exploiting statistical distribution of OFDM transmit signals, the proposed scheme effectively reduces the PAPR by compressing the peak signals, while maintaining the average power unchanged. Simulation results are provided to show good performance of the proposed scheme.

  • We fabricated a resistive superconducting fault current limiter of two stripe meander type based on a YBCO film, and performed current limitation experiments. In order to disperse the heat generated at hot spots in the YBCO film the film was coated with a gold shunt layer. At $0^{\circ}$ fault angle the minimum quench current was $9.6 A_{peak}$(meander line cross section: $5{\times}10^{-6}cm^2$) and the fast quench time was 0.63 msec. The resistance of the limiter continued to increase for three cycles due to heat generation in the gold layer and was stabilized afterwards. At $45^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ the fast quench time were 0.56 msec and 0.26 msec, respectively. The quench time is believed to be reduced because faults occurred when the current was increasing or was at the peak value. With the limiter we could effectively limit the fault current about 1/5 times right after the fault and about 1/8.5 times three cycles after.

  • 본 논문에서는 전력선 통신을 이용한 에어컨 피크 전력 제어 시스템을 개발하였다. 기존의 유선 RS-485통신 방식의 경우 별도의 통신 선로 설치가 필요하여 기존 건물에 설치하기 어려운 문제점과 무선 통신 방식의 경우 차폐된 공간에서는 설치가 용이하지 못한 문제점을 전력선 통신 방식을 채택하여 개선하였다. 기존에는 단상에만 적용된 것을 3상 4선식에도 적용할 수 있도록 개선하여 국내 모든 전기 환경에서 설치가 가능하도록 하였다. 전력선 통신을 이용한 타 시스템의 경우 전력선 모뎀을 별도로 부착하도록 되어 있으나 본 논문에서는 일체형으로 설계 구현하여 안정성 및 경제성을 높였다. 따라서 본 시스템의 가장 큰 장점인 설치의 용이성, 안전성과 경제성으로 인하여, 보다 확대 적용이 가능하여 에너지 절약이 절실히 필요한 현 시점에서 에어컨 피크 전력 관리 시스템의 활성화에 크게 기여 할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서 구현된 시스템의 검증은 원격 에어컨 제어기 및 전력선 게이트웨이에 대한 설계 검증 시험과 전체 시스템의 필드 시험을 통해 성능 및 신뢰성의 우수함을 검증하였다.

부하예측 및 태양광 발전예측을 통한 ESS 운영방안(Guide-line) 연구 (Through load prediction and solar power generation prediction ESS operation plan(Guide-line) study)

  • 에너지 패러다임이 격변하는 시점에서 ESS는 전력부족 및 전력수요관리의 해소와 재생에너지의 증진에 필수적인 요건이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 부하 및 태양광 발전 예측량을 통하여 비용효과적인 ESS Peak-Shaving 운영방안을 제안한다. ESS 운영방안을 위해 통계적 척도인 RMS을 통해 부하 및 태양광 발전 예측하였으며 예측된 부하 및 태양광 발전량을 통해 한 시간 단위의 목표 부하 절감량 Guide-line을 설정하였다. 대상 수용가의 1년 실데이터를 활용한 부하 및 태양광 발전 예측 시뮬레이션으로 2019년 5월 6일 ~ 10일의 부하 및 태양광 발전량을 예측 하였으며 시간별 Guide-line을 설정하였다. 부하 예측 평균오차율은 7.12%였으며, 태양광 발전량 예측 평균오차율은 10.57%를 나타냈다. ESS 운영방안을 통한 시간별 Guide-line 제시를 통해 수용가의 Peak-shaving 최대화에 기여하였음을 확인하였다. 본 논문의 결과를 통해 태양광과 연계하여 화석에너지로 발생하는 환경적인 영향을 최소화하며 신재생에너지를 최대 활용하여 에너지 문제를 줄일 수 있다고 기대한다.

  • This paper presents the properly method of system security and facility countermeasures. We performed simulation for yearly peak of Korean power system in 2002 under the reactive power problem in a nuclear power plants. Analysis of the problems in power system operation by power flow, fault and stability study. Establishment of power system optimal operating plan by stabilizer and maintaining the reasonable voltage level.

Mode Switching Smooth Control of Transient Process of Grid-Connected 400 Hz Solid-State Power Supply System

  • The mode-switching control of transient process is important to grid-connected 400 Hz solid-state power supply systems. Therefore, this paper analyzes the principle of on-grid and islanding operation of the system with or without local loads in the grid-connected process and provides a theoretical study of the effect of different switching sequences on the mode-switching transient process. The conclusion is that the mode switch (MS) must be turned on before the solid-state switch (STS) in the on-grid process and that STS must be turned off before the MS in the off-grid process. A strategy of mode-switching smooth control for transient process of the system is proposed, including its concrete steps. The strategy utilizes the average distribution of peak currents and the smooth adjustment of peak currents and phases to achieve a no-shock grid connection. The simulation and experimental results show that the theoretical analysis is correct and that the method is effective.

High-power Quasi-continuous Wave Operation of Incoherently Combined Yb-doped Fiber Lasers

  • High-energy, high-power, quasi-continuous wave (QCW) operation of double-clad Yb fiber lasers incorporating an incoherent signal combiner is reported. We constructed four efficient, high-power Yb fiber lasers, each of which produced rectangular pulses at 1080 nm with a pulse energy greater than 15 J, and a pulse duration of 10 ms at a repetition rate of 10 Hz, corresponding to an average power of over 150 W and a peak power of over 1.5 kW for ~200 W of incident pump power at 915 nm. These laser outputs were combined by a homemade incoherent fiber signal combiner with low loss, yielding a maximum peak power of ~6.0 kW in a beam with $M^2{\approx}12.5$. The detailed laser characteristics and prospects for further power scaling in QCW operation are discussed.

  • This study determines the effect of 3D compression pants and Kinesio taping on muscular function of the leg during knee joint flexion and extension. Eight males participated in the experiment, wearing basic pants (BP), Kinesio taping on bare skin (KT), 3D compression pants with (KTP) and without Kinesio taping (CP). The test protocol for isokinetic muscular function was composed of four sets at three angular velocities (60, 180, $240^{\circ}/sec$) using Cybex 660. Peak torque and work per repetition of the lower limbs of eight males were analyzed from the result of Cybex. Agility and power of the subjects were examined from side step and sergeant jump. Peak torque, average power, work per repetition, force decay time of subjects wearing CP and KTP were significantly better than BP or KT, especially at low angular velocity of $60^{\circ}/sec$. The time to generate peak torque of subjects wearing BP was the longest, while the force-decay time of BP was the shortest. The application of Kinesio tape on skin did not increase muscle peak torque, work and power, but did shorten the time to generate peak torque.
