  • In this paper, the input pattern vectors are extracted and the learning algorithms is designed to recognize taste(bitter, sweet, sour and salty) pattern vectors. The signal intensity of taste are used to compose the input pattern vectors. The SOM(Self Organizing Maps) algorithm for taste pattern recognition is used to learn initial reference vectors and the ot-star learning algorithm is used to determine the class of the output neurons of the sunclass layer. The weights of the proposed algorithm which is between the input layer and the subclass layer can be learned to determine initial reference vectors by using SOM algorithm and to learn reference vectors by using LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) algorithm. The pattern vectors are classified into subclasses by neurons in the subclass layer, and the weights between subclass layer and output layer are learned to classify the classified subclass, which is enclosed a class. To classify the pattern vectors, the proposed algorithm is simulated with ones of the conventional LVQ, and it is confirmed that the proposed learning method is more successful classification than the conventional LVQ.

  • The Error Backpropagation algorithm is widely used in various areas such as associative memory, speech recognition, pattern recognition, robotics and so on. However, if and when a new leaning pattern has to be added in order to drill, it will have to accomplish a new learning with all previous learning pattern and added pattern from the very beginning. Somehow, it brings about a result which is that the more it increases the number of pattern, the longer it geometrically progress the time required by leaning. Therefore, a so-called Incremental Learning Method has to be solved the point at issue all by means in case of situation which is periodically and additionally learned by numerous data. In this study, not only the existing neural network construction is still remained, but it also suggests a method which means executing through added leaning by a model pattern. Eventually, for a efficiency of suggested technique, both Monk's data and Iris data are applied to make use of benchmark on machine learning field.

  • A useful pattern is a pattern that contributes much to learning. For a classification problem those patterns near the class boundary surfaces carry more information to the classifier. For a regression problem the ones near the estimated surface carry more information. In both cases, the usefulness is defined only for those patterns either without error or with negligible error. Using only the useful patterns gives several benefits. First, computational complexity in memory and time for learning is decreased. Second, overfitting is avoided even when the learner is over-sized. Third, learning results in more stable learners. In this paper, we propose a pattern 'utility index' that measures the utility of an individual pattern. The utility index is based on the bias and variance of a pattern trained by a network ensemble. In classification, the pattern with a low bias and a high variance gets a high score. In regression, on the other hand, the one with a low bias and a low variance gets a high score. Based on the distribution of the utility index, the original training set is divided into a high-score group and a low-score group. Only the high-score group is then used for training. The proposed method is tested on synthetic and real-world benchmark datasets. The proposed approach gives a better or at least similar performance.

  • In leaner-controlled environment where learners can decide and restructure the contents, methods and order of learning by themselves, it is possible to apply individualized learning in consideration of each learner's characteristics. The present study analyzed learners' learning path pattern, which is one of learners' characteristics important in Web-based teaching-learning process, using the Apriori algorithm and grouped learners according to their learning path pattern. Based on the result, we designed and implemented a multi-dimensional learning path pattern analysis system to provide individual learners with teaming paths, learning contents, learning media, supplementary teaming contents, the pattern of material presentation, etc. multi-dimensionally. According to the result of surveying satisfaction with the developed system satisfaction with supplementary learning contents was highest (Highly satisfied '$24.5\%$, Satisfied'$35.7\%$). By learners' level, satisfaction was higher in low-level learners (Highly satisfied'$20.2\%$, Satisfied'$31.2\%$) than in high-level learners (Highly satisfied'$18.4\%$, 'Satisfied'$28.54\%$). The developed system is expected to provide learners with multi-dimensionally meaningful information from various angles using OLAP technologies such as drill-up and drill-down.

  • The Counterpropagation algorithm(CP) is a combination of Kohonen competition network as a hidden layer and the outstar structure of Grossberg as an output layer. CP has been used in many real applications for pattern matching, classification, data compression and statistical analysis since its learning speed is faster than other network models. However, due to the Kohonen layer's winner-takes-all strategy, it often causes instable learning and/or incorrect pattern classification when patterns are relatively diverse. Also, it is often criticized by the sensitivity of performance on the learning rate. In this paper, we propose an enhanced CP that has multiple Kohonen layers and dynamic controlling facility of learning rate using the frequency of winner neurons and the difference between input vector and the representative of winner neurons for stable learning and momentum learning for controlling weights of output links. A real world application experiment - pattern recognition from passport information - is designed for the performance evaluation of this enhanced CP and it shows that our proposed algorithm improves the conventional CP in learning and recognition performance.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the pattern of interactive learning in strategic networks. Interactive learning is defined as the exchange and sharing of knowledge resources conducive to innovation between an innovator firm, its suppliers, and/or its customers. The strength of internal knowledge resources can either hamper or facilitate levels of interactive learning. We assume that more complex innovative activities urge firms to co-ordinate and exchange information between users and producers, which implies a higher level of interactive learning. To test our theoretical claims, we estimated the level of interactive learning of firms in strategic networks with: (1) their customers, (2) their suppliers. Theses analyses allow a comparison of the antecedents of interactive learning of firms participating in strategic networks. Our findings suggest that interactive learning with customers is positively affected by company's capabilities and value-created activities, and with supplies is positively affected by value-created activities and technology innovation centers.

  • Smart home is one of the ubiquitous environment platforms with various complex sensor-and-control network. In this paper, a now learning methodology for learning user's behavior preference pattern is proposed in the sense of reductive user's cognitive load to access complex interfaces and providing personalized services. We propose a fuzzy inductive learning methodology based on life-long learning paradigm for knowledge discovery, which tries to construct efficient fuzzy partition for each input space and to extract fuzzy association rules from the numerical data pattern.

  • Due to the increasing demand and importance of non-face-to-face education, open online learning platforms are getting interests both domestically and internationally. These platforms exhibit different characteristics from online courses by universities and other educational institutions. In particular, students engaged in these platforms can receive more learner autonomy, and the development of tools to assist learning is required. From the past, researchers have attempted to utilize process mining to understand realistic study behaviors and derive learning patterns. However, it has a deficiency to employ it to the open online learning platforms. Moreover, existing research has primarily focused on the process model perspective, including process model discovery, but lacks a method for the process pattern and instance perspectives. In this study, we propose a method to identify learning patterns within an open online learning platform using process mining techniques. To achieve this, we suggest three different viewpoints, e.g., model-level, variant-level, and instance-level, to comprehend the learning patterns, and various techniques are employed, such as process discovery, conformance checking, autoencoder-based clustering, and predictive approaches. To validate this method, we collected a learning log of machine learning-related courses on a domestic open education platform. The results unveiled a spaghetti-like process model that can be differentiated into a standard learning pattern and three abnormal patterns. Furthermore, as a result of deriving a pattern classification model, our model achieved a high accuracy of 0.86 when predicting the pattern of instances based on the initial 30% of the entire flow. This study contributes to systematically analyze learners' patterns using process mining.

  • The memory based reasoning just stores in the memory in the form of the training pattern of the representative pattern. And it classifies through the distance calculation with the test pattern. Because it uses the techniques which stores the training pattern whole in the memory or in which it replaces training patterns with the representative pattern. Due to this, the memory in which it is a lot for the other machine learning techniques is required. And as the moreover stored training pattern increases, the time required for a classification is very much required. In this paper, We propose the EAS(Evaluation And Selection) algorithm in order to minimize memory usage and to improve classification performance. After partitioning the training space, this evaluates each partitioned space as MDL and PM method. The partitioned space in which the evaluation result is most excellent makes into the representative pattern. Remainder partitioned spaces again partitions and repeat the evaluation. We verify the performance of Proposed algorithm using benchmark data sets from UCI Machine Learning Repository.
