Drowsiness Detection using Eye-blink Patterns (눈 깜박임 패턴을 이용한 졸음 검출)

  • In this paper, a novel drowsiness detection algorithm using eye-blink pattern is proposed. The proposed drowsiness detection model using finite automata makes it easy to detect eye-blink, drowsiness and sleep by checking the number of input symbols standing for closed eye state only. Also it increases the accuracy by taking vertical projection histogram after locating the eye region using the feature of horizontal projection histogram, and minimizes the external effects such as eyebrows or black-framed glasses. Experimental results in eye-blinks detection using the JZU eye-blink database show that our approach achieves more than 93% precision and high performance.

  • This paper proposes new algorithms for cloudy area detection by GHA (Generalized Hebbian Algorithm) and SOFM (Self-Organized Feature Map). SOFM and GHA are unsupervised neural networks and are used for pattern classification and shape detection of satellite image. Proposed algorithm is based on block based image processing that size is 16${\times}$16. Results of proposed algorithm shows good performance of cloudy area detection except blur cloudy area.

  • Adaboost is widely used for Haar-like feature boosting algorithm in Face Detection. It shows very effective performance on single distribution model. But when detecting front and side face images at same time, Adaboost shows it's limitation on multiple distribution data because it uses linear combination of basic classifier. This paper suggest the HDCT, modified decision tree algorithm for Haar-like features. We still tested the performance of HDCT compared with Adaboost on multiple distributed image recognition.

  • Recent research has been devoted and focused on detecting pedestrian and vehicle in intelligent vehicles except for the vulnerable road user(VRUS). In this paper suggest a new projection method which has robustness for rotation invariant and reducing dimensionality for each cell from original image to detect two-wheeler. We applied new weighting values which are calculated by maximum curvature containing very important object shape features and uniform local binary pattern to remove the noise. This paper considered the Adaboost algorithm to make a strong classification from weak classification. Experiment results show that the new approach gives higher detection accuracy than of the conventional method.

  • A new signal processing technique is applied to four-cylinder spark and compression ignition engines for the diagnosis of power faults inside the cylinders. This technique utilizes two-sided directional power spectra(예S) of complex vibration signals measured from engine blocks as the patterns for engine cylinder power faults. The dPSs feature that they give not only the frequency contents but also the directivity of the engine block motion. For the automatic detection/diagnosis of cylinder power faults, pattern recognition method using multi-layer neural networks is employed. Experimental results show that the sucess rate for diagnosis of cylinder power faults using dPSs is higher than that using the conventional one-sided power spectra. The proposed technique is also tested to check the robustness to the sensor position and the engine rotational speed.

Classification of Behavioral Patterns Associated with Sleeping in Residential Space (주거공간에서 수면 전후의 행동유형 분류)

  • In this paper, we try to classify behavior patterns of a person around a bed based on a wireless sensor network system. We define five behavioral patterns and three states of a person around a bed which is described by a state machine. We collected data sensed by motion detection and vibration sensors installed around a bed from which a feature vector was extracted. Based on feature vector corresponding to behavioral patterns and the state machine, we established a model for behavioral patterns. To validate the model, experiments on subjects were performed and the model was fixed. These experimental results revealed that behavior patterns of a person around a bed can be classified well.

  • Cellular neural networks(CNN) are neural networks that have locally connected characteristics and real-time image processing. Locally connected characteristics are suitable for VLSI implementation. It also has applications in such areas as image processing and pattern recognition. In this thesis cellular neural networks are used for feature detection in number recognition at the stage of re-processing. The four or six directional shadow detectors are used in numbers recognition. At the stage of classification, this result of feature detection was simulated by using a multi-layer back Propagation neural network. The experiments indicate that the CNN feature detectors capture good features for number recognition tasks.

  • There exist many feature point detection algorithms that developed in pattern recognition research . However, interactive applications for the pen-input displays such as Tablet PCs and LCD tablets have set different goals; reliable segmentation for different drawing styles and real-time on-the-fly fieature point defection. This paper presents a curvature estimation method crucial for segmenting freeHand pen input. It considers only local shape descriptors, thus, peforming a novel curvature estimation on-the-fly while drawing on a pen-input display This has been used for pen marking recognition to build a 3D sketch-based modeling application.

  • This paper propose the hardware IP of real-time face detection system for mobile devices and digital cameras required for high speed, smaller size and lower power. The proposed face detection system is robust against illumination changes, face size, and various face angles as the main cause of the face detection performance. Input image is transformed to LBP(Local Binary Pattern) image to obtain face characteristics robust against illumination changes, and detected the face using face feature data that was adopted to learn and generate in the various face angles using the Adaboost algorithm. The proposed face detection system can be detected maximum 36 faces at the input image size of QVGA($320{\times}240$), and designed by Verilog-HDL. Also, it was verified hardware implementation by using Virtex5 XC5VLX330 FPGA board and HD CMOS image sensor(CIS) for FPGA verification.

  • Subway tunnel structure has been rapidly developed in many cities for its strong transport capacity. The model-based damage detection of subway tunnel structure is usually difficult due to the complex modeling of soil-structure interaction, the indetermination of boundary and so on. This paper proposes a new data-based method for the damage detection of subway tunnel structure. The root mean square acceleration and cross correlation function are used to derive a statistical pattern recognition algorithm for damage detection. A damage sensitive feature is proposed based on the root mean square deviations of the cross correlation functions. X-bar control charts are utilized to monitor the variation of the damage sensitive features before and after damage. The proposed algorithm is validated by the experiment of a full-scale two-rings subway tunnel lining, and damages are simulated by loosening the connection bolts of the rings. The results verify that root mean square deviation is sensitive to bolt loosening in the tunnel lining and X-bar control charts are feasible to be used in damage detection. The proposed data-based damage detection method is applicable to the online structural health monitoring system of subway tunnel lining.
